He is a quality GK, maybe he wants to go somewhere where he will be no. 1? Probably was told he won't play much and he wants to leave, makes no sense to get rid of him if he is content with his no. 2 status.

Seems like he's off, his twitter has one of these ambiguous 'I'm leaving' type statements.

If he has asked to go, then fine, but as has been said, as a back-up he's been great. I have not once been nervous when he has deputised for DDG. I wouldn't feel the same if Sam Johnstone was in goal, no matter how good he is (and, to be fair, I have no idea).

DDG is 23, there is no way Amos (who's 24) or Johnstone (who's 21) are going to be regulars at this club. It would make more sense to keep the experienced 30 year old Lindegaard as long as he's happy to fulfill that role.

They're nowhere near his level, a completely unwarranted risk to let him go, especially if we've released him, at best it means no fee and at worst it means we've paid up the remainder of his contract.
I know, mate. Very strange decision for me. Don't think anything's official yet, though, so just have to wait and see.

seriously doubt hes gone for free.. Quality GK who would bring in a fee as opposed to Anderson say.

A bit like Hernandez in my opinion.. Good quality options/back up to have in the squad but if he wants first team football then its understandable..

I wouldn't be happy with just Amos/johnstone as back up.. Surely we would have to bring in somebody..

Another question - why the story is in Norwegian media when Lindegaard's Danish?
It's Ålesund's local and he still has a lot of friends in the area. Theoretically, they might have an inside scoop but, blimey, it'd make feck all sense. If true I guess he's fed up with being second choice.

Why would we release a player who has two years left on his contract?

We would easily get a buyer for him.

His agent said a moment ago that he WANTS to leave because he wants to play more first team football, which he know he won't be able to in United. So my understanding is that he hasn't left, but wants too...

The reports of him getting released has (indirectly) been shot down by his agents when talking to the danish media.
He said: ''Manchester United has been fair in the entire process and have an understanding for Anders' wishes, which is why we're coming out with this information now, so that we'll be able to begin searching for options.''
Then continued to say: ''If we don't succeed (in finding a new club), then Anders will stay and fight for his spot and try to win as much playing time as possible. So of course he'll honor his contract''

Why on earth would we release him? We could easily get a few million for him. He's a decent keeper I'm sure there would be plenty of takers.

Surely not released? He will be a first choice for any decent side. Has he ever looked poor?

We could have got at least 3-4 mil for him in todays market.

He clearly has been told he can leave to find first team football, he's not been released outright.

Great keeper. Pity to lose him.
I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.

Maybe it was to make way for that younger keeper we bought a few weeks back?

This is a big blow. He's a great back-up. Can't blame him for wanting to leave though.

Best for him.

De Gea won't be usurped and Anders probably now needs to play a lot of games.

It does leave us in a bit of a pickle. Are either Amos or Johnstone good enough to play an extended number of games should De Gea get injured or suspended? I'm not sure they are.

Well if lindergaard leaves then we need a new back up goalie. A bit too early for johnstone and amos is probably not good enough.

Best of luck to him, hopefully he can find a decent club to be first choice in.

Perhaps they have high hopes for that giant young Serbian we signed!

Looking at how shaky the other two have looked, David better stay healthy for the entire season or else we're proper fecked. Anders has been quality as a shot stopper in the games he played for us.

He's too good to be a number two. Best of luck to him.

Johnstone and Amos could be Ross Turnbull at Chelsea bad. Amos isn't good enough and Johnstone isn't ready yet.

It's probably a language thing. In hebrew as well when a club tells a player he can leave, they say he was 'released'. But it doesn't mean he's be released from his contract, just told he can leave if he finds a buyer.

Terrible timing. We need experienced backup for De Gea, but with the other gaping holes in the squad we could do without this problem.

His agent has clarified to Danish newspaper that Lindegaard has not been released. He just wants to leave and the club won't stand in his way. Whether that means he can leave for free is still unclear to me.
