I think we've lost six out of the last eight against City and the last three against them at Old Trafford.

Hoping this will be our day to turn that around. We should be going into this game with confidence from our recent form.

@BobbyManc should be able to say.

Looking at their recent matches they don't really keep a constant lineup, but I imagine it'll be something like:

    Hart

    Zabaleta Kompany Mangala Clichy

    Navas Toure Fernandinho Silva

    Bony Aguero

With Demichelis, Milner and Dzeko being other possibilities

Yea, I think Valencia is without doubt the "weakest link" right now in the first XI. For all his pace and strength he just doesn't seem to be consistent enough to not be replaced sooner rather than later. He seem to have a habit of making brain farts just like against Arsenal, and I just don't trust him enough for games like this.

I hope that I am proved wrong and that he performs against City, for he will almost certainly be starting anyway. I would also like to see Young since I trust him doing his job, however I am a bit worried that he is physically too weak to handle Citys' offense. I agree with you that I would prefer someone else in that RB position, but I don't think it is something LvG will be willing to gamble on. However, that may certainly be something that comes back to bite us in the rear next weekend..
No, I don't think LVG will drop Val either, he seems a bit fan. I just hope we get a real right back next season.

He looked absolutely terrible and couldn't deliver a single decent cross or dribble past his opponent once.
His crossing really hasn't been his strong point this season, as many others have mentioned he has very few assists. Nor does he beat his man very often. He tends to recycle possession, stretch the offense and track back mostly. Which is great, I have no problem with him at all.

Talking bout Young being hardly useful for crossing, what does Fellaini offer us when he is not chesting or heading the ball.
He keeps some opposition players busy which helps our team to create more chances.

    Same with Young.

Thanks. Just wanted to check how they would come, especially at our Valencia and Blind..

    ----------------De Gea------------
    Valencia--Smalling--Jones--Blind
    ----------Carrick---Herrera--------
    ----Mata------Fellaini------Young--
    ----------------Rooney--------------

Should beat them, though the same could be said of the reverse fixture and look how that turned out.

    Classic derbies: City 2 - United 3 (November 1993)

    http://twii.edgeboss.net/download/twii/manutd/mufc_city_9394a.mp4

Peter Bolton, United fan from Manchester: "This was a really memorable derby. I remember particularly that there were United fans all over the ground that day who didn’t manage to get a ticket in the away end so just bought their tickets through City.

"We were 2-0 down at half-time but I thought we were the better team. Maybe I’m biased, but I thought that we could still come back and the moment Cantona scored our first you could just see the City players’ heads drop and I knew we were going to do it then. Ryan Giggs set-up Eric’s second, he had come off the bench for Kanchelskis during the days when Ryan couldn’t get in the team, which shows how good that team was!

"It was one-way traffic in the second-half and when Keane bagged the winner, sneaking in at the back post, we went absolutely ballistic. We went on to win the double that year and I still to this day think it was one of our best teams ever. It was one of the great occasions from one of the great teams at United."
    What a great comeback

But he does, on the left wing anyway. Him being to cut inside and sometimes change to the other gives him more options when playing on the left. On the right he doesn't have enough variety about his game (just like Valencia) to cause pbs.

Unfortunately, they have what it takes to beat us. I don't think we'll completely slip out of form and go back to being tumescent, we will probably play at the same gear we did against Pool, but that won't be enough to get the better of City.

Good thing is we have a cushion. City and Chelsea just aren't in our league yet, hopefully we'll be right up there next season, but for now - they're a step ahead.

    1-2.

On form, we're better than City. Much, much better.

2-0, Fellaini and Mata. Same team again, Shaw for Blind would be ok too. You coukd say, yes, they tend to raise their game for us and yes they have attackers who will thrive on the extra space we'll no doubt give them. I don't remember a derby since the oil money injection where our prior form is this much more convincing than theirs so I really don't see us losing at all

Watch us inevitably lose this. We're undoubtably in better form, but City up their game against us constantly.

This. City also has a knack of finishing their season strongly after some dodgy periods.

Keep up the pessimism, lads. We seem to perform best when we're underdogs rather than favourites.

I don't think City will lose against us NOW. That would be five in a row away from home and I just can't see that. We just need to draw and we'll still be in third.

Draw would be a good result. Would be 16 of the last 18 points available, having damaged 3 rivals for top 4.

Still have a horrible schedule ahead - Chelsea, Everton away, Arsenal...and Palace away too!

Despite the loss and the laughter, I don't think City were that bad tonight. However, I'm confident for Sunday. Mainly because of Pellegrini. He plays the same shape with pretty much the same players every game and I think LVG will be able to expose them. Still will be a tough game but I think we may just take this one.

That's probably spot on. I think Demichelis will be suspended - he got 5th yellow against Palace, but not sure that's a good thing - Mangala is the better player in my opinion.

I'll be so gutted if we lose this, even more so than usual. City are looking shite but you can bet they'll go all out against us to prove a point.

If they play like that then I think we will win. Overwhelm the midfield with Herrera, Fellaini and Carrick.

What city struggle against? Is possession teams. If city are playing the same midfield, much like Liverpool we can overrun them, we have built this possession game that is becoming extremely hard to play against, and teams are finding it hard to take the ball off us. So if we continue this vein of form, we could pin city back for quiet allot of the game.

Not only are we keeping the ball, we also have that physical side to our game is well, in the form of fellaini. It depends what mindset we are in, keep that intensity up, keep the balance in our system, and we can really give city a horrible 90 minutes, but city now up against it, could be a dangerous team to play. But they are there for the taken. But we have had a habit of red cards against the mob, but I think we re far better drilled than before, hopefully. It will be typical if we have that glass jaw, and lose the damn game

I look at city, a cycle of their's is coming to an end, and we are seeing a new cycle of ours starting to happen. Like I say, our style of play is something city hate to play against, because their main guys like toure and aguero are not getting enough of the ball, and that becomes a problem for them if we continue this reign of form
