Bush got the same. Everyone followed the line of him being a dumbass and alcoholic.

Bush was a former cokehead (and C student), also he was exceptionally dumb.
Dont get me wrong I am not a Hillary supporter....Warren/Sanders is my dream ticket.

Everyone else is bought out by the 1%.

If thats how you think of Hilary, I cannot wait to hear your views on Palin....

Did you support the Mccain/Palin ticket?
meh - why waste brain power on someone who's not standing nor in the limelight (or held a big cabinet position, etc)....

Genuinely baffled why Hilary is thought of so highly....esp after the continual stream of sleaze, arrogance and general non-coherent-ness
Partly name recognition, partly the fact that she's served in two prominent, high level positions since leaving the WH in 2000. There's probably a bit of wanting to see Bill back in the WH again as well.

yeah - I agree with you and hence worry whether it's good enough to be the leader of the free world...

although genuinely neutral - there's just something about her I dislike...
She hasn't defined herself yet, so lets so how that goes. So far, the only ones who have attempted are her critics. Personally, the entire Democratic Party machine will likely be behind her, so its quite likely she will be the nominee, and from early indications, there aren't any GOP candidates so far with the ability to beat her.

What I've seen her say so far since she announced has been surprisingly lefty to me. From what I've read though Jim Messina is on her team for next year, which means her message will be extremely well targeted and executed by the end.

There is that, but she also has to perform with a coherent strategy or else someone is going to knock her off her perch, much as Obama did in 2008.
I don't pretend to know that much about US politics, but from what I've read, isn't it true that there's no realistic challenger in the primaries?

This time that's correct, although this would be a one off. There's usually a lot of competition among contenders.

Donald Trump is running.
Best news I've heard so far this week - will be brilliant to see Trump run; hope he pumps a lot of his own money into it as well.
What's so funny - thought he made some good points IMHO
Trump is an ignorant asshole who gets into the Presidential race just to get more press. He knows he will never seriously run.
It is interesting that during the duration of the season of his show on TV (The apprentice) he says nothing political but as soon as its off the air, he just talks pure shit.

He was one of the main loudmouths asking Barack Obama to produce his birth certificate, then Trump wanted to see his long form birth certificate...now Trump is asking for his college transcripts.
The disrespect he has shown to the President, just to rally his base and give himself more press is disgraceful. He is an awful human being.
He had a query and wanted to get to the bottom of it, not sure what he did wrong? If it was such a daft thing the whole thing wouldn't have gotten any traction at all and laughed off, instead of bowing to it...
But we did laugh it off....... at Trumps humiliation.

Couldn't care less for Bush myself and regardless of what he was he was still the president of the United States and got a huge amount of disrespect. Obama has been just as ineffectual and his backing down on Obamacare taking it from a true universal healthcare option in the USA to the full plan orignally made by Nixon in the seventies was horrendous. So as far as I'm concerned they're as bad as each other. I also couldn't care less for any of the candidates I see no truly progressive person who will take away from the 1% on any of the candidates.

You seriously think Obama is as bad as Bush?
Bush left 2 wars and full blown financial meltdown in his wake....at least Obama tried to give the people health care.

Sanders is the only candidate who is serious about cleaning up wall street.

Obama likekly couldn't have gotten Obamacare through in it's original form even if he'd wanted to. It wasn't backing down, it was politics. Trying to introduce national healthcare fully blown into a country where half the population still think it's the first step to communism was about as realistically feasible as an instant, blanket gun ban.

Yup and I actually like Obama. I think he's a very charming guy but his presidency has been just as bad. The financial crisis was the result of over 20 years and can't be laid as the fault of Bush. I blame Clinton more for removing Glass Steagal in 99 as the final nail that created the crisis. Don't get me wrong I think Bush was a terrible president all I'm trying to say is he got jut as much disrespect for his position as President.

When you're elected in with a majority on the back of a universal healthcare reform plan promising hope and change and you're the man to take on the lobbyists to then pander to the demands of the opposition and not bringing you're own party in line then creating a Healthcare system that invited the lobbyists in and was the biggest kiss off to the insurance industry you could imagine, then it is more than just backing down for me, it's outright betrayal. The timing was right for the introduction, they'd just elected a president on the back of it.

ok - just being objective:

this seems like an opinion

Just being objective?

Has this 'query' ever been asked of any other president? And with such fervour and aggression?

The whole thing got traction because there is an incredibly aggressive wing of the Republican party who has been trying to find any way to disrupt Obama since he started his presidency, with a very poorly disguised ahem "undercurrent".

PS: That poster is not objective and no other president has been treated with such disrespect from day 1. From asking Obama to see his birth certificate, then long form birth certificate to senators screaming at him calling him a liar during a session in congress....the list goes on and on....can you imagine if Barack had started 2 wars based on lies and led the country into financial ruin how the right would have acted? They would have probably all out revolted by now.

Barack Obama seems to be highly ineffectual - but again, that's from a UK person looking in.

Re: Hilary - I dunno, I just don't like her air of arrogance after what seems to be scandal after scandal....I mean the email thing, seems no one is talking about that here?(!) Her sense of entitlement/inevatibility/call-it-what-you-will turns me off IMHO.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
This season of Republican Primaries is looking to be a good one. I didn't think it was going to be anywhere near as good as last season, but adding Donald Trump to the cast list is a stroke of genius. I just hope he makes it at least until the primary debates.

He needs to get into the top 10 in the polls.

I doubt Trump will be in the debates. The GOP establishment will try to keep him out to avoid him smearing their "normal" contenders with his circus brush.

I think the arrogance was much more apparent in 2008. She seems to have toned it down a notch this time around.

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but did you see the bunch they had last time? It was a zoo. It has been for a while.

For Christ's sake, Sarah Palin was the GOP choice for vice-president!

There was a riveting 30 minute interview of Bill Clinton on The Daily Show last night. He's one of the smartest men to have been POTUS and although you may not care too much for Hillary, they will make a formidable team if she gets elected. To have him in the background as her most trusted advisor will be a huge advantage for her.

When you see an idiot like Trump give a speech like he did the other day and then watch Clinton speak eloquently and intelligently on a range of issues, you have to wonder what the feck is wrong with this country that we'd even consider a feckwitt like The Donald for office.

What the feck is wrong with a country that re-elected both Bush & Obama, now they should put another political family back in office that is as much, if not more, a corporate whore than any of the others in the potential field of candidates?

System is broken, privilege looking to continue to flourish. Americans are fecked which means we all are

To be honest I'm moving towards Raoul's position on this - after Hillary, which dynasty has another presidential candidate ready to run? We're looking at the exception of the last 25 years and treating it as the norm. There needs to be massive reform on campaign finance undoubtedly, and Clinton to her credit has already talked about it.

The problem with this approach, as is the case every election with the lesser of evils approach is that it has done absolutely nothing to course correct the county

And anyone who has followed Hillary should know full well what sort of corporate stooge she is

The bigger issue with the system and potential candidates is that its left to career politicians (invariably bought off) and big money (undoubtedly paid off). It's no different, IMHO, to how corrupt organizationally FIFA is - one stepping down & another jumping in isn't changing a damn thing.

You can't expect different results with the same approach, everytime

Corporations are part of the capitalist system and aren't going anywhere. If anything, electing Hillary will probably ensure a left leaning Supreme Court which will have a ripple effect on issues like campaign finance reform and a variety of other things. The likes of Sanders don't have any more chance for the left as Ted Cruz and Santorum have on the right.
