Yep, definitely. The thing is Falcao was bought on name alone. He was just a crap signing that Woody has to take full responsibility for. Di María was bought because he was a big-money Galactico but also because he could offer something very few others in world football offer - that pace and creativity we still sorely lack. I prefer to look at it as a risky gamble. It's easy to forget just how much of a wave he made when he played his first few games...

So even though United were far from his first choice he clearly had the potential to do great things for us. His attitude grew continually worse as the season went on but that all stemmed from how he was managed. If van Gaal treated him like a Ronaldo-esque superstar and gave him the freedom to do whatever he liked then I think he would've been perfectly happy here and would've been one of the few world class players in the league. Van Gaal isn't that kind of manager though. Moved him away from his most influential position for the benefit of the team and the "philosophy" and then publicly criticised him.

That's the worst part of it all. Woody wanted the Galactico signing and van Gaal had no interest in treating any player like a Galactico. Complete mismatch.
Don't think I can blame Van Gaal for not treating Di Maria like a galactico. The room for error last season was miniscule. He doesn't have a chance to entertain Di Maria in midfield. He got a working formula with Fellaini and Young and ran with it. If he gave di Maria freedom that he wanted and we lost a few points and out of the top 4 it would be a disaster

This can't be true surely, and I really hope there is no nasty tit for tat comments after he's gone from either party, just keep classy and move on.
Agreed but think you might be disappointed there. I'm expecting a bit from both sides. Don't think it's a parting on good terms at all. If Di Maria mouths off, we will bite back I'm sure.

Just want this to become official now so everyone can get over it.
Yeh me too. We might holding back on announcing a deal for Pedro in order to deflect all the criticism we're gunna get when it is official. Would expect the deals to be announced relatively closely.

Was just about to post that link on Di Maria's supposed cnutish behaviour. Wonder how true this is? Pretty certain he'll slag us off once he's at PSG. What a disaster of a signing, my goodness.

Reads like conspiracy nonsense from an amateurish website.

Angling for a move to Madrid or Barcelona

How on earth was either of those ever going to happen? He's hardly going back to Madrid and Barcelona don't need him.
Exactly that. Classic utter sh!te from kids running a rubbish fanzine.

"I want a move to Real Madrid"

erm...didn't we just buy you from them?

I'm going to take Fergie's approach: he's gone from me now, all I care about is what United do.

Well thank Cantona that this saga will soon be over and we can move on. Now just get Pedro in and bring the season on.

I should have stopped reading that crap the moment I read about Madrid. But I didn't, and ended up wasting a couple of minutes of my life.

United need to make a big statement next, does anybody get the feeling we might have forced this transfer through to get more cash in for a bigger money transfer? Like Ronaldo or Bale or something.

We don't know all the facts of it, but a lot of it seems to be borne out of not adhering to a philosophy and so on. Unless the player's an utter tool who undermines team morale, a good coach should try to make it work by providing him some leeway. There aren't many players of his class around.
Well a lot of it seems to be him not really performing and not having the attitude of actually trying or looking like he wanted to be here.

The rumours regarding PSG have been circulating since he signed which most of us found odd including me. It now looks like they may have been true.

How much of the 59m do we reckon was in incentives and performance bonuses? Surely he didn't reach any of them, which would make the fee lower in the end?

I wouldn't have thought we would have to pay Real anything in terms of add ons so let's say the 59m was actually 50 up front with 9 in add ons. We've shelled out £50m.

If the deal with PSG is for, say, £40m with 5 in add-ons, we will have lost a minimum of £5m but potentially a maximum of £10m if he doesn't hit his targets.

If that newspaper report is true about ADM then I for one am glad he is gone. Trying to unsettle the team and get Rojo to leave as well, what a snake, I hope he gets a serious injury. So long as nothing is released until PSG sign him of course, it will be interesting to see how Ibrahimovic and ADM get along. PSG are stacked with midfield options and also attacking options so it will be good to see where he will fit in and how many players he can upset while doing so, is Blanc the man to manage him?

I thought the £59m was the initial fee, rising to £63m dependant on appearances, trophies etc.? Could be wrong though.

So important we put in some bids for gamechangers. we need a replacement for what he SHOULD have given us. that world class match winning quality. Reus, de bruyne etc.

Sure I read somewhere (may have been BBC) that the loss for us is not that bad due to the pound being strong I think

That's what the media have been reporting it as, think people have made up figures to make it look like we wont be getting hit hard on a loss for him. With the Adidas money coming in, over £100m a year, we can take the hit but would prefer we made sound choices in the future. Not saying he wasn't the right choice at the time as he was unbelievable when he first arrived but if the reports of unrest are true then we need to cut our losses incase it disrupts the squad further.

I don't believe the reports are totally true, LVG strikes me as a guy that would take no prisoners in regards to this kind of behaviour and would have ordered him to play for the reserves the rest of the season. Saying that judging by his performances the rest of the season it certainly looked like he hated being at the club, looks like my Di-Maria top is going in the bin.
