Who do we reckon will have a better debut season lads? Memphis or Martial? Of course, they play in different positions so it's impossible to directly compare, but based on just overall play and their contributions to the team, who do you think will be better this season?

Also, who do you think will be better in the future... overall who will be remembered as the better player?

If the mods feel this topic doesn't merit its own thread, I apologise; please lock the thread :D

Depay. He'll play more, he's more experienced, had a full pre-season.

From what I've seen, they do seem to both play in from the left side of the attack...

Memphis. Then again, I do have very high expectations of him. Not really seen enough of Martial to give an educated opinion.

No idea. I don't know enough about Martial to make any conclusion. So I'll randomly say Memphis. HTH.

I think both will prove to be very good but ultimately Martial will become better. Martial will be one of top 10 forwards in Europe within 3-4 years.

Both young players want to become the very best they can be. They're highly ambitious and the competition between them both will have positive effects on the team as a whole

Think both will take time, Memphis is more experienced and has done more in his career. How ever Martial has played in a more competitive and physical league and may translate over to the Premier League far better.

I think both will be great over time, Martial will probably settle into the style of the league better.

Genuinely curious, have you watched a lot of Martial? This isn't directed at you but a lot of the opinions on him, both negative and positive, seems to be based off the odd YouTube clips here and there.

If we want a chance of actually challenging for the league they both better have pretty good seasons.
I expect Depay to be on fire at some points this season, not sure what Martial will bring to the table yet.

It's actually quite a tough one because I believe that, while both are very talented, Martial is the more talented of the two, but Memphis is older and has already had some time to play and begin adapting to the league as well as being more physically powerful which always helps when you're a younger player in the English leagues.

I think both will have their struggles this season but memphis should be better overall. I expect that in 1-2 seasons max we'll be seeing their true potential develop and they'll both be excellent players with Martial eventually overtaking Memphis in his early 20's.

A bit, he's looked good. I think we've scouted him a bit more to pay this price and I find it difficult to believe that we're anything but completely certain about his immense potential. The voices from France sound extremely postiive.

I Dont really know enough about either of them but I do not really rate anything I have seen from Depay other than his 2 goals vs Brugg so I will say Martial, just.

Based on last season, Depay. Can score goals at a regular rate. Martial is at the stage one or two seasons from a true breakout season.

Depay. United are going to look like Liverpool did when they signed Caroll if this Martian turns out to be dogshite. Hopefully not like.

Whoever works the hardest. Memphis might just edge it for now with his experience, but Martial looks like a great prospect as well. Hopefully LvG will take the shackles off and let the players play some attacking football.

Both could turns out to be shit though, although memphis has 1 full season on top form, so it's not looking likely. Too early I must say, let's just hope they put their contribution for now and settle down fast without any injury / settling down issue.

Reminds me of the Rooney v Ronaldo battle.. Martial has the more settled family life and seems to be more mature, but then again Depay is driven as feck. For this season I think Depay will have the edge.

Easily Memphis for now, but that's because I've only seen Martial play against Arsenal once and followed Memphis since he was 16.

I'm sure Memphis will become a great player, I hope Martial does too.

Memphis. He has a pre season behind him, has worked in Van Gal's system before, and i think has generally more games under his belt?

Martial has more talent in his small toe then Carroll ever did... He's a great talent, with loads of pace, is strong, has a great touch, and can go past players easily. And only 19. He's not a bad player at all right now, the potential of him flopping is if he can't handle the pressure and just goes hiding in every game, or doesn't work hard to fulfill his potential. The talent and physical attributes are all there though already so it's not like it's a random punt.

And he was already having a big impact for Monaco in the champions league, being a starter at 19 years old. So it's not like he's far away from being capable of starting or something. He can be starting this season for sure.

A Nani fan who doesn't rate inconsistent wingers. You are a genuine paradox.
