Could probably make a new thread for this (haven't seen anything directly about it) but do United fans feel LVG left United stronger than what they were when he took over?
I remember fans arguing his huge upside was he always leaves clubs in a good situation for the future, often credited with laying the groundwork.

He has done yes. Some of it down to him, some of it by accident.
Absolutely. Whilst he obviously has a huge number of haters he should never be compared with Moyes. Even with the media harassment undermining him every week and extensive injuries he has done better. He has not done well enough but much better than Moyes.

Paddy agreed, it was regarding the staff for a job well done in evacuating Old Trafford last week. Stewart said I was exactly right.
Stronger than when he took over? Yes. We were in big, big trouble under Moyes. The football hasn't been much better, but Van Gaal has left us with some hope for the future (Shaw, Martial, Rashford, TFM, keeping De Gea around, etc) and did in the end win us a trophy, which will make the aforementioned players hungry for more success.
Perhaps a better way of framing that question is would we rather Mourinho take over now, or when Moyes was sacked (if for the sake of argument, he had been available). To answer that, I think I definitely would have preferred Mourinho two years ago, as we probably wouldn't have bought several players that haven't turned out well, and (probably) wouldn't have sold players that could still have make a contribution to us.
On the other hand, I think Woodward has gained some really valuable experience over the last couple of years, which may serve Mourinho better now than two years ago. So it's difficult to say...

Can't wait for the confirmation that he's no longer our manager and whilst I won't look back at his tenure with many fond memories, I dislike how some fans want to hate him.
After David 'we should aspire to be like city' Moyes, it was nice to have someone back at the helm with a bit of gravitas and A f^ck you attitude.
At the end of the day he's brought a decent degree of defensive organisation to the club, brought through some good youngsters (whether by design or accident) and ultimately won us a cup. In terms of looking to the future this squad looks more promising than the ageing crew that SAF departed with.
I'm going to try to remember him as the manager who brought the FA Cup back to Old Trafford after far too long away, rather than dwelling on the utterly dull football we've endured through his tenure.

Don't disagree with the sentiment, but I do think LVG blew it when he said a Moyesque 'the fans have too high expectations' - that was a really daft thing to say after all our last 20 years history and rather insulting.
Not sure if it's been said yet but LMA Lawyer Paul Gilroy has arrived at Carrington. He acted as an employment barrister for Moyes when we let him go.

Apparently Paul Gilroy QC arrived 45 mins after van Gaal. He acted for Moyes when he was sacked.
Yeah, I agree with that tbf. He'd remained quite bullish towards club outsiders and the media for the most part but he shouldn't have said that. It just seemed ridiculous. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that he's on his way out, but happy as Larry that he grabbed the cup on his way out the door!

He has failed to get us back to where we should be but he did move us in the right direction.
He put a stop the the routine humiliations at the hands of our biggest rivals that became a habit under Moyes, and for that, if nothing else, I will always be grateful. In the games against the top clubs his record even stands up to SAF's.
I hope he isnt too resentful of the way he has been treated over the weekend. I hope his Fa Cup win brings him some pleasure in his retirement.

Not in the expected sense no. I don't think tactically or coaching wise hes added much to the team at all which is what I was hoping. You couldn't say we have a set defence or set midfield to build on for instance.
I do think (even if it's by way of him just being here) that the squad is in its best state since Fergie left. Rashford and Blind I give to LvG as positive things he's left behind but that's about it.
History will look kindly upon VanGall and his time at United, in years to come some of the anger and dislike for him will fade, and what will be left is his record, in two seasons he had a 4th place finish, and an FA cup in his next, and this is after taking over a train wreck of a team, don't misunderstand I don't like what he has put us through and look forward to his departure, it's true though years will be kind to his time here.
Giggs left Carrington about 10:30 apparently. Seems weird at that time of a Monday morning. Either he's been let go, or his brother has gone out without his wife.
Well we certainly won't remember the football.

I think this will be the case if Mourinho makes us into a formidable side once again, Van Gaal will be the one who laid the foundations.

He'll be remembered for the boring football, i have no doubt about that.
For United to be so dull and boring is a remarkable thing, us winning an FA Cup isn't no matter how much we enjoy winning trophies.
