In my opinion, he's the 'worst' of the three Juve CB's, though obviously they're all outstanding.
What a strange opinion. Bonucci is one of the best center backs in the world and has been for a few years by now (only Godin and Boateng are clearly ahead of him) and the other two haven't showed anything close to his level. Chiellini is ridiculously overhyped as he spent almost all of his career in Juve.

Actually a ridiculous sum for Bonucci can mean that they'll hold on to Pogba a little longer. City already tried to screw us with Borussia (Gundogan signing surely put the Mkhitaryan's price up) and I hope they won't do that again. In fact, we should do the opposite, sign Pogba and allow Juve to ignore City's attempts.

I really doubt he'd want to leave Juventus. If city do get him, he'd definitely be the cb in the country. But again, i doubt he'd move.

Yeah I really cannot see him moving from Juventus to City unless the lotto winners are offering him an obscene wage (ie. 350k+ a week).

Him and Chiellini are beasts though, so he's probably worth it.

It would be interesting to see how he'd fare in faster league with different tactical setup next to rock solid /rocky horror John Stones with no calming presence of Chellini, Barzagli and Buffon.

City will get their man.

I don't think this will stop the Pogba deal going through either.

Juve are going to collec some serious cash from the Manchester clubs this season.

Yeah, why would someone who has won the lame duck competition they are stuck in four times in a row want a new challenge?

Baffling logic. Of course, he will be attratced to a PL title push offer.

Class player, hope they don't get him and go for Stones instead

Yes in the pedestrian paced Serie A, it's a ripe old age to be thrown into the cut and thrust of English football. The pace of the game could shock him.
Yeah yeah I know. I just think it's amazing how Italian footballers seem to play into their 50s

He's a bit old for that kind of money, but he's one of the very best and would be a huge player for them. I'm hoping it doesn't happen.

All the talk of wasted money in the Pogba thread, but £60 million for Bonucci is far worse value than Pogba at £100 in my opinion.

"Value" is meaningless here - they have the money and UEFA won't be enforcing FFP anytime soon.

Yeh I personally think it's a good signing just having a go at all the people saying they don't want Pogba due to the price when it's quite clear that this Bonucci deal is far more ridiculously above market value.

Hope City pull this off, Kompany-Bonucci could be a very good pairing for a couple of years. I'd be surprised if Chelsea weren't in the hunt too.

So they're going to have kompany, otamendi, mangala and bonucci. Something ain't right there.
Kompany is often hurt, so in reality Bonucci would be the passer and leader the more athletic and tenacious but less clever Otamendi and Mangala need as a partner. Those 2 fight it out and maybe the loser leaves to flourish elsewhere.

Would be a terrific signing for City. Presuming Kompany's injury woes don't disappear, having another top class CB will be invaluable for them.

6 years playing in Serie A and for national team with basically same Juventus' players, as well as in most popular defensive formation consisting of 5 defenders. There is huge risk attached to that transfer especially considering his age and the kind of money involved.
Netherlands looked very good in 3-5-2 defensively, but you do know what happened when they switched to 4 at the back when Van Gaal left the post.

This shit ain't Pogbalike.

Strange how many people have said they rate Chiellini higher, I doubt you'd find many Juventus fans that share the same opinion. My understanding is Barzagli was considred their best from around 2012-2014 but Bonucci stepped up when Barzagli spent ages out injured I think in 14/15 and became their best CB.

He was. Barzagli was better than Bonucci too but but not anymore. Bonucci surpassed them last season.
Fair enough. Just kinda felt like everyone thinks he's the best CB in the world because of a sexy pass to Giaccherini  havent really noticed much talk of him before that. was always Barzagli and Chellini. Hope they take him from Juve than ends up shite like the rest of their CBs

He is the new hipster favourite but it's not entirely baseless. Guardiola said this about him after the 2-2 draw in February:

“Did you really think we could come here and expect to dominate for 90 minutes against a side with Pogba, Mandzukic, Morata, Bonucci – one of my favourite ever players – Buffon and all these characters?"
That pass to Giachherini definitely wasn't a one off...he does that all the time for Juve:

Actually I believe you'll find that mine is an opinion held by many Juventus fans. Not many would agree with your opinion on who's better than him (in regards to Boateng and Godin, no mention of candidates such as Silva)... It's not an outlandish claim to make; I don't hold an opinion that's in the minority. Chiellini is immense, and the best of the three. They all complement each other brilliantly, and if you have a preference for ball players then sure, bonucci wins. Age is a big factor too; Bonucci is the only one who'd command such a high transfer fee, but that is beside the point. At the fundamental art of defending, the other two are above him. Again, if you read my initial comment, you'd see that I rate all three very highly.
I find it funny that you call my opinion "strange", then make what many themselves would consider a strange opinion in return. Got your blinkers on?

Whatever the price, I don't want City to get the guy who goes around beating up armed robbers, and is an excellent footballer to boot.

He's Batman without the silly suit and mask, and would surely bring some backbone to their team.

Godin's been a rock in the best defensive club side of the last few years and Boateng's probably the best ball-playing centre back in world football. Very few people would consider Chiellini on the same level as them, never mind better.

Underrated in here a bit.

1) He is Juve's best CB and one of the top 3 in the world

2) I was under the impression Juve played a back 4 under Allegri

3) He will suit Peps system down to a tee

4) I think people vastly overrate the physicality of the league and the pace of English football.

Personally, I think this refusal to accept tactics and planning over chaotic, mindless fast paced football is a large part of why we are struggling as a nation in football.

I rate Bonucci as arguably the most complete centre back in the world along with Thiago Silva. That fee is still twice what it should be, and that's coming from someone who thinks the reported fee for Pogba seems sensible.

Great post. I see lot of arrogance among posters here.

Anyways, didn't he made a video saying that he is coming back in black and white?

While it's an incredible transfer fee, I think if City get him they become favourites for the league imo. They wasted a massive amount on Mangala, Otamendi was a disappointment as well, and combined they spent plenty on that duo. If they get Bonucci they'll have a bona fide top CB. It's still way too much money but that's not really a problem for them.
