What formations are people finding success with on seasons for Utd? Feel like I want Memphis, Rashford and Martial to start for their pace, but then Mkhi, Mata and Rooney have decent ratings.
Been very successful with a 433 (5):

de Gea;
Valencia
Smalling
Bailly
Shaw;
Schneiderlin
Herrera
Pogba;
Mkhitaryan
Ibrahimovic
Martial

Using instructions I tell the fullbacks and Schneiderlin to stay back, Pogba to get forward, and Ibrahimovic to stay central.

He went by the name of Wayne Rooney
I tried playing the journey on amateur level and the story seems so scripted its unreal. Scored at least half a dozen goals in every game which resulted in me getting loaned to Newcastle. Was recalled back and started scoring half a dozen goals a game again and was still dropped for the FA Cup games against Chelsea and City saying I was too inexperienced. Who cares about your experience if you score multiple hat-tricks in every game.

I do the same instructions for this formation and also instruct wingers to cut in.

HELLO
If you don't pay for packs, you always make a profit.
It's the only way I've found enjoyment in Ultimate team, by playing it as a lottery, but id love a top player to build a team around.

Nothing puts you off playing the game more than when you win the draft and get rewarded with your 'rares' being contracts.

There are massive problems in this game.

Passing has been buffed, which means that bad passes are not punished. I can pass the ball easily in my own half, even when my opponent uses high pressure. Everyone plays like Barcelona in this game and you can't do anything about it. FIFA 16 was a terrible game IMO, but it punished bad passes. FIFA 17 seems to give inferior players an edge over you.

Defending is easier, due to the AI being godly. The amount of bad tackles you can get away with in this game is unreal. All that needs to be said about this is that I'd rather the game made it hard for me to defend, as opposed to its current state where it's hard to attack and you're hoping "luck" goes your way in the final third. I don't want an automated system doing most of the work for me.

I think EA should stick to this base meta for a couple of years and make tweaks to it, instead of their awful routine of changing the whole system every year. When they change one thing (defending), another is broken (dribbling). Input delay is a killer but I'll let people in this thread think it doesn't exist. The game definitely feels more automated, and that's why I'm not enjoying this FIFA even when I'm winning. Also, Frostbite has lived up to its reputation. Great visuals but terrible gameplay. The visuals in this game are fantastic and all these new FUT modes look appealing, but the core is rotten.

What's the best league to choose for a throwaway gold team for single player game? That's my usual UT tactic early on to build up a decent squad on the side but I generally can't be arsed to look around this year.

We can't stop here. This is bat country.
It does, I spent £500 on packs throughout FIFA 16. Luckily I can afford it but I wish I didn't spend that. I won't again that's for sure.

3142 is brilliant

GK - De gea
CB - Bailly blind smalling
DM - Herrera
LM - Martial
CM - Mata
CM - Pogba
RM - miki
ST's - Ibra and rashford
Thank you for the formation recommendation.

Was getting my arse handed to me in seasons, decided to give that a go and flying now.

Don't think it'll work in the upper divisions but working for me now down in lowly division 8!

Portuguese league has a lot of value for coins, but it lacks a good striker. I find Douglas Coutinho to be the best one, make sure to play him on hunter.

For me the passing is quite poor at times, some games you can pass like Barcelona and then the next it's as if they haven't played a pass in their life and it's really slow and inaccurate.

I'm with you on the game play, I'm not a big fan of it either. When running with a player, no matter his physical attributes he'll 98% of the time get out muscled by the defender, even if he's weaker in physical attributes.

What's with the chest control too?! It just bounces off them and usually ends up with losing possession.

I don't usually play online much or even bother with Ultimate team, usually buy Fifa so I can play when my friends are over. However I decided to give UT a go today. Was quite enjoying myself, even treated myself to a pack or two.

Played a couple of online games, as I expected these were fairly narrow loses but I enjoyed them.

Then in the next game I face some bloke that had Suarez and Dybala upfront with ateam that would make City feel poor playing behind them. I get that UT is about building great teams, but I didn't expect to play against dream teams whilst Lingard is by far my best player....

Put me off really, I didn't even stand a chance.

My other complaint is the unrealistic expectations in be a pro. On more than one occasion I have scored 2 or 3 goals for Portsmouth and then got a news alert saying the manager is disappointed with me because I didn't meet some daft expectation and get dropped for the next game because I didn't get an assist or something despite scoring multiple goals

I have enjoyed Playing as United though.

Been having success playing like this so far:

.........Rashford.....
Martial....Mata....Micki
.......Pogba....Herrera
Shaw..Smalling..Bailly..Valencia
...........De Gea.....

I know Zlatan is much higher rated than Rashford but I like playing with pace and fast passing. Rashford is also really good on the right tho, he seems to be more effective than his rating suggests, which makes me wonder what other players I have overlooked.

I have taken a lot of pleasure in how damn awesome Pogba is.

I'm in Div 4 now and still going strong so it might get you there. No doubt games are harder though now but I've not been relegated yet and I've been promoted so far each season.

Yeah the good thing is this formation really overloads the midfield and I find my opponents struggle to get space in midfield areas.

How do I give the players instructions and can you do this with online seasons? It's my first FIFA since 14 so still getting back into the swing of things again.

Yep. When you select your formation, press R1/RB a couple times and scroll to the 'instructions' tab. You can then select a player and use the right stick to choose instructions.

Unfortunately some of them are broken and just don't work.

Getting my arse whipped in the weekend league. Can't blame the team either, most teams are just slightly better.

Found this rubbish compared to 16. Through balls seem to never work, passes seem to never go with any power or with way too much power. Maybe it's just me but it wasn't "fun" playing this with friends.

Greetings everyone. I just bought FIFA 17 on PS4; mixed feelings about the game itself but it's better than 16.

Is anyone online with the PS4 version who fancies a match at some point?

Also, looking for opinions. I have created a 'best of the Bundesliga' team in FUT and am in a quandry. I have Hernandez as my sole striker but need someone else to rotate with him. I have 124000 coins and am thinking about getting Muller as I can get him for about 60000. The only other strikers I can think of who are better than Hernandez in the Bundesliga are Lewandowski and Aubameyang; both are waaay too expensive. Have I missed anyone?

Anyone got any tips on how to get coins fast on ultimate team?
Depends on if you're prepared to buy a few packs. I spent £8 and got crazy lucky; Coutinho, Sturtidge, Mata, Smalling in just 6 packs. Sold Sturridge for 84000 coins, Coutinho for 60000, and Smalling for 29000.

Spending money aside, I would say the coin boosts in the catalogue are your best bet.

This is probably my third year in a row making this post but packs are a real fecking Joke.

I'm playing pack only in Ultimate team and I've opened loads of packs already, mainly through playing the draft and the best players Ive got are Giroud and Nolito.
I have to say I have been extremely lucky this season, I pulled Benzema who I sold for 80k, Pique, 20k, Clyne 16k, and yesterday I pulled an IF Veratti which sold for 70k, so I have built a decent PL team wth De Gea who I had to buy for 110k with plenty of change to get Lukaku who I love as a lone striker. It's the luck of the draw I guess!

Volland is generally the better option, since 17 is putting a lot of emphasize on physis and Hernandez is seriously lacking that.

4-3-3- Blind sitting in front of the defense (scores some good goals regularly), Pogba and Herrera in midfield (tried Rooney in place of Ander but his overall game is too slow and goes up too much). Attacking trio is Ibra, Martial and Rashford. Tried Mkhitarian on the right but I prefer Marcus as he's very fast and scores some good headers. I've just been promoted every season but I'm only in 5th league but doing rather well, especially considering my Internet connection is quite poor and there are games I have lags.

Is Real Madrid the best team in this game? 9/10 games on season I face them.

Gave this a go and I love the theory of it.

However, I am not used to playing 3 at the back and sadly found wingers and wide attacks very hard to deal with

I think I've finally found a system which is working well on Manager mode, but I haven't played online yet. It's basically a 4-3-3 with some tweaks to the instructions - which I never normally touch on FIFA, but none of the formations which I have tried seem to work on default instructions.

I'm playing the following team:

.................DDG.................
Valencia Bailly Smalling Shaw
..........Herrera Pogba...........
.................Mata.................
Mhki......Rashford.......Martial

I have each of the front three set to run in behind the defence, with the two wide players also set to stay forward. Mata, or occasionally Rooney, has a free roaming role at the number 10 position. The tactic is effectively counter-attack, using Pogba and Herrera as the driving force in midfield (as well as a solid cover for the back 4), get the ball to Mata as quickly as possible, then use his passing ability to find one of the three fast forwards, who are all looking to make runs.

It's quite open, but seems to be effective against the AI on World Class difficulty and I usually reduce the attacking mentality once I have a goal or two. That has also proven useful for saving the energy levels of my players as well. It is maybe too attacking to play online though.
