He's so lucky he doesn't play for us. Would have been slaughtered by the press and United would be laughed at for paying that kind of money

I don't see the potential others do.

Jonny Evans got a lot of criticism as a Utd player but his problems were more on the mental side than his talent. He was/is better than Stones.

Stones in 5 years will do well to reach Evans level never-mind Pique.

In fairness to Stones, his one redeeming feature at Everton was that he actually good on the ball. What he needed was a manager who would tell him that he didn't need to play defensive splitting through balls every time he had the ball in his own half. Instead he got Baldy who tells his defenders to dick around pointlessly.

Isn't true in fairness.
He appears better than he is because he glides with the ball quite nicely. Ultimately, his passing is nothing special and he keeps giving the ball away. The whole point of being a ball-playing defender is to actually keep the thing under control.

Has there ever been a more confident football player? How can you keep playing like that while making so many mistakes, he's playing strikers clean through every other game.

And occasionally look up before you pass back to the goalie

He's a pretty good passer actually. Seen him play some ridiculous stuff at Everton. He needed a manager to channel that talent selectively and effectively.

Defensively, he's always been crap though.

Ballague is currently visiting the PL studio on Norwegian TV, and the Noggie commentators slate Stones and say that they think he is massively overhyped, Ballbague replies "he has only had 4 months with Pep Guardiola, still so young, will be brilliant and a top CB."

When will the myth die, he is a calamity as a defender, mediocre as a ball playing defender and has zero football intelligence.

For 1,5 seasons now he has been a guaranteed blunder in each and every game, yes he had a good season two seasons ago for his age, but is that really enough to warrant this ridiculous hype?

If he was foreign and played for us he would be the laughing stock of the league.

It's one of the strangest things in football. It's like one day a load of people randomly got together and decided John Stones was going to be the next great CB.
It quite clearly wasn't based on anything that happens on the pitch, unless you're impressed by comedy defensive positioning, half arsed tackles and over playing on the ball.

You'll get people making excuses using his age but I'm not exaggerating here, there are about a dozen centre backs his age or younger around Europe who are far better than him but don't get anywhere near the hype.

England as a nation need to look at themselves if they're hyping this guy up as the next best CB. It's embarrassing, really embarrassing and kind of sums up the bullshit undeserved hype we give our youngsters in this country.

Trouble is he believes his own hype. Thinks he can be clever and play silly passes and take players on, when the reality is his ability is nowhere near what he thinks it us.

Remember people on here wanting to offer 30/35 million plus Jones in the summer for him.

His defensive abilities were fairly overrated and even the overall package. Anyway having said that i think he will still become a very good player but only 2/3 seasons down the line.

I think Pep is the wrong manager for him. He needs someone that will give his head a wobble. Not someone like Baldy who will tell him how proud he is of his free spirit and then one day give him the cold shoulder and never play him again.

To be fair to stones, he does play a lovely pass.

His problem seems to be identifying which players are on his team and which are not.

Pep now being blamed.
Yep, so it has begun.

They blamed Martinez to cover his ass at Everton and now Pep is also being blamed for Jones obvious mediocrity as a defender.

Is this accurate,if so Its funny that everytime the opposition score against City the Stones thread seems to be bumped?
'Directly' is the important word here. There are plenty of other instances when he does some absolute clowning (e.g. last week against Chelsea, dribbling like a moron against Costa or Hazard, getting dispossessed in his own box, not being punished for it) yet goes unpunished, sadly.

Sorry. but he's gash. I posted before he is worth 15 mill tops. The city fans I work with still convince themselves he is the best English cb in the prem and I'm convinced they're imbeciles .
