There are some things you can always count on on the Caf.What a bunch of cry babies.
Those who are trying to twist Mckenzie's comments to be a racial slur are beyond pathetic. Ross Barkley is white and his tiny bit of Nigerian heritage is news to most, it seems. This was just a case of a tabloid journalist comparing a footballer to a gorilla....and for good reason. If you don't want to be compared to gorilla, don't drag your knuckles and walk around with your mouth open like a gormless ape.
Indeed, the chances of liverpudlians actually working is stretching it a bitThe £7.50 an hour comment is particularly distasteful. What an absolute cnut.
So does my bro-in-law, but he's half-African. His 'looks' are irrelevant.Look at him. He looks Giggsy complexion.
If exterior appearance is irrelevant to racial identity, then what exactly does that imply? It implies that racial labels (such as black, mixed race, white etc) carry deeper meaning than appearance alone....which is what actual racialism is all about. Those claiming that Barkley (a visibly white man) has been the victim of a racial slur are suggesting that the consideration of an individual's genetic background is socially important beyond any prejudices he may experience as a result of his outward appearance. So does my bro-in-law, but he's half-African. I highly doubt it was intended that way.Despicable article. Is it racist? We'll probably never know the intention behind likening Barkley to a gorilla - whether he knew this before writing the article or whether he had no idea like many of us. Assuming he did know this, then of course it's racist.

I'd say if a person had some heritage from another ethnic group, then you can insult them by making a disparaging remark about that heritage. We all know the monkey insults at football matches are not long in the past in England, and are still heard in other countries (to our shame). Now, I didn't know about this guy's mixed heritage, but other people on here did know. It must therefore be fairly common knowledge. Strange then that McKenzie chose that particular comparison when deciding how to insult Barkley, isn't it?If exterior appearance is irrelevant to racial identity, then what exactly does that imply? I think it's more to do with their status as primitive humans. He's implying that Barkley is a knuckle dragging idiot as opposed to having the features of a black man.I don't get the gorilla reference, whenever I see a monkey/ape in a zoo they always look like they'd do anything to be away from public view. I can't help but see their intelligence.
Scumbag. What kind of person switches football clubs?Reading about McKenzie's various careers...its all too incredible & appalling to even satirise:

I think that if he knew about his lineage then such comparisons should be completely avoided, since they could be construed as being racist. Whether the "joke" went over people's heads or not would be irrelevant here. Anyway, it's all too hypothetical for me and I will just have to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one as I don't know whether he deliberately meant to make a racist comparison.I highly doubt it was intended that way.
Even if he knew of his Nigerian lineage, I bet 95% of the readers of his column didn't. Plus it's completely not obvious due to the fact that he's white, plays for England and has an English name. If the point of him being apparently racist was as some kind of joke, then it's totally pointless since it's going to go over everyone's head anyway.
AgreeAgreed, article is tasteless but I really don't think he meant it racially.
The "isn't David Beckham thick?!" trope. There's a certain irony in this that the 'gorilla who's a bit thick' has a £100k-per-week contract offer on the table just to play the game he loves. Funny old world
I`m not sure what joy one can get from others being unemployed, so really don`t understand this particular joke.Indeed, the chances of liverpudlians actually working is stretching it a bit
This is the kind of ignorant post I was talking about earlier, who are you to tell someone what they should and shouldn't be offended by?Internet is full of people waiting to take offense about something or other. You can't please keyboard warriors. They're a menace.
It's called common sense. Get used to it.This is the kind of ignorant post I was talking about earlier, who are you to tell someone what they should and shouldn't be offended by?
It's extremely patronising.
Seems like patronising wasn't strong enough a word. Seems like you're missing the point so there's no point in carrying on this conversation. Keep living in that bubble. It's called common sense. Get used to it.
It's a bullshit article and more obvious when you consider the source. And when did Gorilla become a racist insult? If you can't identify attention seeking click bait, then you being offended has no meaning.
The dumbing down of society continues at pace."Alongside the article, The Sun published adjoining pictures of Barkley and a gorilla on their website with the caption "Could Everton's Ross Barkley represent the missing link between man and beast?" . "
wtf were they thinking.
Are you actually comparing wealth to intelligence? Or have I missed your point? There's a certain irony in this that the 'gorilla who's a bit thick' has a £100k-per-week contract offer on the table just to play the game he loves. Funny old world
Sure, warrior.Seems like patronising wasn't strong enough a word. Seems like you're missing the point so there's no point in carrying on this conversation. Keep living in that bubble.
In what way? I've not said anything threatening or agressive? Grow up kid.Sure, warrior.
