If we do, we should give Romero league starts. He's earned them.

I don't really see the reason why this should be debated. We have one of the best keepers in the world going into absolutely crucial games in our season and maybe he'll be on the bench? Nah. Think the Romero stint has run its course. If we are mathematically out of the running for top 4 he can get games.

He's a good backup keeper to have. Dave's world class.

Start De Gea in the cup and give Romero a few league games.

Last thing club wants is if we reach the final that all the talk is about De Gea and his facial expressions on the bench. As he won't be happy sitting on the bench.

Ideally De Gea should start as he is head and shoulders above Romero but I still feel the right thing to do would be to keep Romero in order to keep the trust and morale high within the squad. Benching a player that has been doing alright out of a sudden, after doing all the dirty work would send the wrong message, as is no matter how good you perform and after doing all the dirty work you're always going to be below the star players and go back to the bench as soon as the team starts playing the most crucial and exciting games.

DDG should play.

Motivation: He is better and europa league is our best bet for CL next year, and our only hope for another trophy this season.

It is not harsh to Romero, he is well aware he is the back up keeper and should not expect to play these important games.

It's not like we are going to win or lose the EL due to having the wrong goal keeper. As we saw today against Anderlecht, if we don't put away chances, or if our midfield gets run over and leaves our defense exposed, we will get knocked out or lose the final.

The real question is who should our midfielders and attackers be. Please, no Rooney.

Start Dave and this shouldn't even be a question. These games are hugely important and we need to put our best team out there, which means De Gea in goal.

Romero has done well, but I disagree with people feeling he's being hard done by. He's a back up keeper, he knew that coming in and he accepted that role or he would've signed with someone else.

Leaving aside the question of whether it's fair or not, since when has the consensus become that DDG hasn't been good this season this season? VDS had plenty of these seasons where he wasn't making save after save and he was considered world class.

Play whoever will give us the best chance of winning.

For me, that is ddg. You can't let sentiment take priority over the team's success.

Romero done nothing wrong so far, but his handling worries me.

Romero has been decent this season but he's nowhere near Dave's level. He reminds me of Howard from around 2004/05, decent enough and can stop shots like the best of them, but he doesn't inspire confidence. He punches and flaps at crosses, drops shots and generally makes everyone nervous. That said, on a human level it would be incredibly harsh so Jose has a tough decision to make.

I knew this thread would cone up and i don't see the point .Jose has said time and time again Romero is his keeper in this competition

Romero will stay in goal and rightly so ..off course ppl will read more into it than they should and say it proves DeGea is off when really it was a simple decision made at the start of the competition

I shit myself every time the opposition attacks with Romero in goal, he's a fecking liability.
Based on what? Apart from the Swansea game last year I can't really remember him making an error but I can remember lots of really good saves. Add to the fact the bloke is Argentina's No.1 and we are hardly talking about a run-of-the-mill back up goalkeeper

I think that I'll play De Gea these games now, and play Romero in other League games (except Arsenal, City and Spurs)

We're depleted at the back and I think that his qualities are now needed to give us more confidence.

Even if Romero has been almost perfect, I'd give him half of the remaining games in the League, and let Dave shines

It's the Semi finals, we should play our best GK. That's all there is to it.

Yes.

De Gea in the Europa League (important to note he's already won it btw!) And Romero in the league games around it.

As harsh as it may be to Romero, De Gea have to play.

De Gea is the better keeper, and Romero's last game is worrying after Rojo gets injured.

If Rojo is still fit, I would consider Romero retaining his place, but now we need De Gea more.

Great contributions so far though by Romero. We remember.

This.

Will start with DDG and give a league game, again that depends on who we play that week.

De Gea should play. Romero has done a fine job but it has been against easier opposition and far fewer games. De Gea is one of the best players in the world in his position, it is crazy to leave him out in a competition we simply have to win. If Jose said he's not playing Pogba in the Europa League to save him for the PL we'd think he was mad.

Romero has been good but De Gea should and will start. Europa League is huge for us. No time for romantics and you're not keeping a top 3 goalkeeper in the world on the bench with this much at stake.

De Gea for sure. Much better keeper and we need to win. Sentiment doesn't come into it when it comes to silverware.

Romero has done nothing wrong at all this season and I've felt his commitment and body language has even been better than De Gea's. I'd more more than happy if Romero got the nod as he deserves it. I think he did well again yesterday under serious pressure and was catching the high crosses well and punching when it was risky to attempt the catch.

If De Gea's commitment is even slightly in question let's play Romero. He talks and plays as if its an honour to play for our club. That's what we all want surely. I want to see more Argentinians at the club!

You didn't listen to what he said in his pre-match press conference before Anderlecht game then.

“Sergio Romero is goalkeeper for tomorrow but not necessarily all Europa League” says Mourinho.

“David is the priority to play in the Premier League but I don’t like a complete separation between competitions.”

Given that we're knocking on the door of potential CL football next season, it shouldn't even be a question. Our strongest available XI should start and Dea Gea is our best keeper. I'm sure Romero himself who's done his bit in this competition will understand that too.

When we conceeded that goal last week against Anderletct , I immediately thought De Gea would've saved that. I know that it was an impossible save to make but how many times have we seen De Gea pull of saves that he had to right to make? It just seems silly to waste that.
