Eriksen played CM at Ajax fwiw, can easily develop into a Modric type player.
Agree and ultimately think he's the closest thing to Scholes, in terms of all round ability, the Premier League has seen. Quietly outstanding footballer.

Poch has done so in a few games. Especially if we're chasing a goal Poch will often move Eriksen to CM and bring on another attacker.

Not sure he could play a CM2 against the strong teams, but could likely play a strong role in a CM3.

People suggesting that Eriksen could drop and play like Scholes and Modric have surely never seen him play. They'd never suggest the same thing of Hazard. Both are players that have all thoughts on offence, all of the time. I can't see either of them playing anywhere other that where they currently play. For good reason two. Two of the best attacking midfielders in world football.

Because people think you can turn every small technical player into a deep lying playmaker.

Technically he's just not gifted enough to be a blue chip playmaker. he'd be badly exposed at a club like Barca.

Nothing easy about developing your game in the middle of your career nevermind becoming like Modric.
I think he can, he's one of the smartest players I've seen in the past few years with terrific understanding of the game, and a similar skillset to Modric', he is already playing in midfield more often now so I personally think he can, yes. Not sure if that's what on his path though.

Appreciate your opinion but I think the opposite. He creates so much. Give him more of the ball and have him feeding better forwards (not a diss on Kane) and I don't see how he ends up looking worse.

Most underrated player in the league. He's probably had a better season that Hazard if consistency was the measure. Hazard looks world class on more occasions but Erickson has been at the heart of Spurs success. He's among the very best in the league. I'd take him over Ozil, Sanchez, Coutinho and many others.

Or playing alongside with the best players in the world could raise his game to the next level. Kinda like Modric. Both scenarios equally possible.

Fabregas creates a lot to, probably more than him and he got found out at Barca and had them begging for Iniesta to be returned to midfield.

No, he hasn't had a better season than Hazard. Just so happens that expectations on Hazard are higher than on him. Wouldn't take him over any of those players. Ozil at his best creates more, Sanchez is quality, Coutinho has more ability although is quite inconsistent. However he has shown signs of going up a level and improving that side of his game.

Modric has always had exceptional natural ability. imo his game hasn't gone to the next level, simply plays in a better team so is appreciated more. I'm not seeing what he's doing differently at Madrid to what he did at Spurs.

For some players that might be true, but I've never understood this line with regards to Modric. He was utterly amazing at Spurs in his final 2 seasons and one of the handful of best CM's in the world, it just wasn't widely recognized by casual fans.

Eriksen isn't as good as Modric in terms of defending and ball retention (Modric's ability to dribble out of pressure and create space in the middle of the park is absurd) and I'm not sure he could thrive in a deeper role in the same way. He also doesn't have Modric's ridiculous range of long passes which is so key to rapidly springing attacks from deep.

On the other hand Eriksen is a much better finisher than Modric, and he's tremendous on set pieces. Playing where he is now seems to suit him perfectly, I'm not so sure why we are always in a hurry to find new positions for players.

Do you think Eriksen will be sold / how much do you think he'll cost?

Don't think he'll be sold - he seems to have no desire to go anywhere and Spurs have no desire to move him on.

Eriksen is absolutely phenomenal, imo. So much of Spurs succes is based on his skills and creativity. Someone made the argument, that his technique isn't good enough to play for a club like Barca, which is, imo, ridiculous. One his greatest assets is his technique and everything he does just looks so easy. He would thrive in Barca I think, but as someone argued, he is probably too expensive and not high-profile enough. He isn't exactly what Liverpool need (not that we could afford him or he would make the move anyway), but god I would love to have a player like him feeding Coutinho, Firmino and Lacazette.

I wasn't comparing the two by their skills or styles. I just meant the situation. Other has and the latter could develop and benefit from training and playing with the best players around every day. Assuming the playing time is granted, I believe the better players you play with the better chance you have to fulfill your potential. I also must say that Modric was highly rated way before the move, but IIRC many, maybe even majority thought that Madrid would be too much for him. He became twice the player he was at Spurs. Many times he's been the best player on the pitch. Same pitch with Ronaldo etc. Development is of course mixture of a young player reaching his physical peak and gaining experience.

PS. Modric > Eriksen
Eboue > Limit of three posts per day

He is our best and most important player. He gets relatively little recognition and I'm quite happy with that as it would be a disaster for the club if he was to leave - you just can't replace a player like that.

He has come on a lot this season - lots of comments from Poch about him needing to develop consistency/influence games more and he seems to have responded.

Wouldn't compare him with Modric or assume he could play that role as a deeper CM. Eriksen is good because he drifts, finds pockets and is always looking to create - not sure he would suit a more disciplined CM role with more defensive responsibilities.

Food for thought - Sigurdsson (probably most similar player to Eriksen IMO) actually has better stats in the PL with a far weaker team - more goals, equal assists.

Sigurdsson is a great player and deserves another shot at a top 6 club imo - having seen both players at Spurs I know which one I'd rather have and it's Eriksen all day long however Siggy is underrated.

Fantastic player. Definitely ready for a move to a bigger club.
You are right in the sense that he could play for the very top clubs in Europe and not look out of place - Barca would be a better side with Eriksen in it imho for example. Obviously I'm hoping he stays with Spurs for another few years at least.

I'd imagine he will stay with what Poch is building there, especially with next year's CL campaign. He seems to be on 75k wages, which imo should be bumped up to 100-125 range if you want to keep him long term.

So Barca would be better side with Eriksen but Coutinho would be found out at Barca. Nice man, no hint of bias at all.

It's my opinion that Eriksen is a far superior player to Coutinho, I think many people would agree with that, not just Spurs fans. That's how I see it.

I'd say Coutinho should have it in him to succeed at a club like Barcelona, he's brilliant on his day but he's also inconsistent and quite different from Eriksen who plays more in service of the team, is more of a playmaker. This shows in stats like assists and chances created, which aren't great for Coutinho. This is why I think Eriksen would do much better in that Iniesta role, they're both the kind of players who play in service of the forwards, which is what Barcelona needs with those forwards and their passing game. Eriksen is a player who makes a team tick better, while Coutinho is a bit more individualistic.

I wouldn't. Different players but I would personally go for Coutinho.

I think you guys have to start winning things to keep hold of your players.
Poch is obviously doing great things, but being realistic you can't match the salaries of the other top clubs in Europe (I'm not sure if your stadium build will have an impact on your competitiveness in the transfer market or any improvements in contracts you can offer)
Therefore you have to offer the ability to win things consistently.

If you go another season without a decent run in at least one of the domestic cups, and fail qualify for the last 16 of the CL then I think the likes of Eriksen will be looking elsewhere.

What you said might be true but chances created and assists are good for Eriksen as he takes all the set pieces, he is very good at that.

Good player, but he plays in an attacking set up. All attacking players will look good in a setup like Tottenham. Mourinho's set up is completely different. We rarely spend so much time in the opponents half. Can't say how good he would look in our team.

Coutinho also takes many corners and freekicks though. And Eriksen is far more involved in their passing game aswell, makes alot more passes each season. In that respect he's more similar to players like Ozil and Silva, and their respective playmaker roles than he is to Coutinho. Which again, is why I think Eriksen suits Barcelona much better.

Eriksen is easily better set piece taker and I said that myself. You can check their assists, key passes breakdown and see where the big numbers are from.

I agree Eriksen is quality player but dismissing Coutinho and big up Eriksen is just biased opinion.

Where am I dismissing Coutinho? All I'm saying is Eriksen is a different kind of player and is more suited to a club like Barcelona. Could argue Coutinho would actually be more suited to the style of football Mourinho plays, but that's another subject.
