The only way he develops further is if he is given a serious squad role e.g as second choice DM and 4th choice CB. Suppose we sign a Fabinho it won't Axel's development if Mourinho makes him his understudy who plays the COC, early FA Cup games and as a rotation option in between CL and PL congested fixtures. Playing no hopers like Fellaini ahead of him in these scenarios won't help progress the club.
I expect that may happen.

could not agree more, there is no harm in dropping players like Fellaini as the replacements will at worst be the same level and obviously at best shine to become a new united star

Excellent today. At absolute minimum he looks like he can be in and around the team for years to come.

What I really don't want to see is him having a wasted season here like Fosu-Mensah did this time. Play him or get him out on loan.

Didn't expect Tuanzebe to look so comfortable in midfield. Probably wasn't the most high tempo game ever but still impressive. Especially when it's not his position.

Last time i saw someone so cool (among defenders) with passing under pressure was Nastasic (1st year in City)

Looks better with every game in midfield. It really stands out how confident and calm he is despite his age. Really like his quick and clean passing.

Looks like jose's grooming him for DM. Could be impressive there. Would be great if him and mitchell made the jump to first teamers next season.

In Smalling's pocket (as every other person)

Better at CB, would be great to have such a good ball playing and strong defender a la Boateng someday. Then move in CVM someone who is even better on the ball like Fabinho or maybe Weigl someday.

Contrary to most in here, I think he deserves a loan. To play consistently would be really good for him and I'm not sure Mourinho will give that to him.

Mitchell, on the other, should be given a chance next season. We probably should have given him more chances this year. Unless something is wrong with his attitude he could be a really good option for us. Unless Mou are planning to give Shaw more game time we need a new left back. Developing Mitchell could allow us to focus our budget and attention on other areas. And with Darmian in the squad, it would not be risky either.

Mitchell vs Shaw could be a new Giggs vs Sharpe story.;)
IMO both should go out on loan next season. Let them play against adults without the added pressure of trying to break into our squad at the same time.

I actually think he may force himself into the starting 11 by the end of next season.

Reads the game superbly. Doesn't panick.

Great composure and shields the ball well when pressed. Something we need more of from our players which Axel, along with Harrop, bring to the 1st team. Another promising display!

I thought he looked a bit unwilling to get on the ball in the first half, but once he was paired with Carrick and settled into the game he didn't look out of place.

Could really see him being Bailly's backup at RCB next year, with Jones and Rojo at LCB and Smalling sold.

He looks like a versatile option. He is a bit too conservative for my liking to be a DM as he has missed multiple viable forward passes. Nevertheless, he is still pretty young and we haven't even see him play in his best position.

He's quality. His 1v1 defending is particularly impressive. Nothing goes past him. Should be getting proper mins at cb next season.

Brilliant talent. I am amazed how confident he looks on the ball especially when you compare him to a seasoned pro like Smalling. Did not look out of place in midfield either. Shields the ball well and has pace too. Good control as well and a decent eye for a pass. Think he will be a top CB for us in the next two seasons.

Btw what happened to Nastasic. He was a brilliant CB for City and then just vanished.

Are you suggesting that we should not bring in a CB this summer transfer window ? The caf will not tolerate this. But I agree with your analysis. Tuanzebe can be an excellent backup to Bailly.

The way they drop like flies in mid-season, I think we will need like 6 centre halfs.

Very good ball control, very calm under pressure. I really like these attributes. Like Pogba also has got good control but tends to use his strength to some extent, but with Axel, it is pure footy skill.

TFM was supposed to be the next youth in line after Rashford, but think Axel has been surprisingly good, giving you the feeling that he is the one who should be considered first, whenever we are in need of a backup from our youth system to fill in for the defensive positions like RCB, CB, DM, RB etc.

Also, get the feeling that Mourinho also likes him and wants to work with him, so as long as he continues to follow Mourinho's instructions, he will definitely be included in the squad next year.

He is very good with the ball and his passing is miles better than Fellaini for example. Would be great to see him being involved next season. He can have Smalling's place

I'd start him over Fellaini.

Think he is playing for Schalke, not sure what happened, first season he was great, then i guess City wanted to spend on CBs,even tho at that time, there were some City posters here trying to claim how reason for him leaving was use of cocaine. Somehow i doubt thats remotely true.

I like how composed he is, he has all the physical attributes to be a top CB but he's a good footballer too. Still 19, needs to be loaned out IMO so he can get regular playing time.

I think he can be used as a squad player next season and used when needed. His calmness and composure on ball is a big asset seeing rojo jones and smalling just hoofing the ball most of the times. He can be a replacement for Bailly to give him some rest if we have fixture congestion next season.

We can shift one of jones or smalling as he can be categorized in homegrown quota & save our wage bill.

Another player who is made to look better by Carrick then. Isn't that what Scholes said, it was difficult for fans to see how Carrick contributes because what he does is make the other players play better.

What I liked about Tuanzebe is that I wanted him to burst forward to show a bit of skill from time to time, but he had the necessary composure to not showboat. Instead, he kept the ball and passed it around pretty well. It may have looked a little uninspiring, but it was a very mature performance.

I don't really trust Rojo as a starter or Jones to stay healthy, so personally I'd sell one of Jones or Smalling and buy an LCB to form a proper partnership with Bailly. Rojo, Tuanzebe, Blind and Jones/Smalling is a good group of backups and then if Tuanzebe shows he can be relied on as 3rd or 4th choice CB we can sell the other of Smalling or Jones.

But Mourinho is always good with CBs and Rojo has done well enough, so I'd say LB (I love Shaw, but he can't be relied upon to stay healthy apparently and Mourinho might exile him even if he is) DM, CM (I'd definitely rather see Rojo start 30 games than Fellaini if we had a calamity and say Bailly or Pogba or Herrera miss a huge chunk of time) and a star attacker are higher priorities than CB in the transfer market.

Probably our most trustworthy player all season, don't see why you wouldn't. All of our best partnerships this year have involved him.

Tyler Blackett.
Same Tyler Blackett who will start in the playoff final later this month?

Axel is a talented young defender and I'm very impressed with how simple he keeps things. There's still more to see before a full judgement is made but the early signs are promising.

Its just that many of the comments I've read so far about him are the exact same comments I saw with Blackett. Need to see more of him over a period of time as you said.

Having seen them both in the youth set up, they're miles apart in terms of quality.

I'm torn on what I'd like us to do with him next season, I think he's ready to go out on loan, but at the same time I feel like there's a chance he could fight his way into the first team picture. However if he can't I don't want him wasting a season here like TFM has done.

I don't see the point of buying Michael Keane when we've got Axel. If Axel went on loan to a Premier League team next season he'd look every bit as ease with it as Keane has. Axel's bigger, stronger, and faster than Keane.
I'll go even further. I don't see the point of buying any new CB when we've got Axel.
