I think United will start the first 10 minuts atacking to try to make a quick goal and defend. Ajax was weak in the first 10 min vs Lyon and Schalke and couldnt handle the pressure. I'm sure Mourinho noticed and will set his tactics accordingly. If United doesnt make the quick goal and let Ajax play their style it will get hard for United.
if thats the case mata surely shouldn't start. Hes too slow vs ajax imo...

I hope if we struggle a lot then he changes it up massively mid game or at least takes off mata early, maybe even sub 45. Simply cant see how starting Mata would be a good idea over Lingard or Martial against a really quick team that leaves gaps at the back...

The thing that favours Mata is experience, but I think Mou should trust inexperience in this case...

Theirs some experience on the squad for big games, likes of Mkhi, Romero, Valencia, Pogba. Certainly more than their team has.

For people that are nervous - have a tug - that will sort you out. Helps me when I'm stressed out.

Why are there 2 threads on this game?
This is just a build up thread as per the title. Posters posting articles, tweets etc. This will most likely get locked after the teams get announced.

The trophy is growing on me.

Take out the orange Europa League logos that is usually the backdrop to it and it's a class bit of silverware.

I always thought that the Europa League trophy looks more beautifully crafted than the Champions League trophy.

Build up usually takes place in the matchday thread, doesn't it? Just a bit of a pain hopping between both threads.
This game is more than worthy of a separate mains build up thread.

The matchday thread is usually full of people posting endless lineups.

Tony Cascarino got it right on TalkSport this afternoon

Not one of their players would get into our first team. Most on here are massively over-estimating Ajax

That isn't to say we can't balls it up because I have seen us lose to some absolute dross!

Finished my 24h shift in the morning, so nervous I couldn't take a nap and started drinking early instead. Hope our hearts will stand this!

Sorry thats absolute bull. Likes of Zliyech and Kallassen could make it on our first team (that which is available at least), of course that just shows how poor our first team is at the moment in terms of form and quality.

But, we really should win, and Im not really nervous, though I do fear Ajax a tad, I'm rather excited. Honestly tired of reading these comments, ' im sick to my stomach' and the like. Gosh get over it, its fekin football, melodramatic much! Just like this age and generation to pull that kind of crap. Swear half the comments over social media and other platforms is exactly same to same " I feel like I'm going to puke etc!" bottle it up will ya. We're man united.

An important point for this game for me is we know how Ajax are going to play, they are going to be very forward and try to open us up. United however can choose how to go into this game, we can either try to control the game or play counterattacking football. Jose has the choice in this regard.

For some, not many, this will be their first ever European final. Some were maybe too young 6 years ago, to appreciate it.

I'm nervous, but also excited. This is where we should be, in a major final. Savour it.

It's my sixth (91, 99, 08, 09, 11) and we've lost the last two. Let's have it lads!!! Come on!!

My worry is this choice is only theoretical and in reality Mourinho can only go into a final like this with one mindset. Ill be delighted if he proves me wrong on that, it will be another thing - along with hopefully winning the game - that will give me confidence over the summer.

Massive game. Going to be an emotional night giving the circumstances in Manchester.

I expect a nervy game, and do think our styles will cancel each other out. I reckon we'll win it 2-1 but we'll likely score early and then absorb pressure for the rest of the match or absorb pressure the whole match and nick it in the end*

*basing this on previous European Final experience

So excited for this now!

With all what's gone on in the city recently I hope we go out there and put on a good performance and bring the cup home! The worlds media will be on us especially and I can't wait!

I was nervous but I'm now excited and can't wait, I think we will beat them relatively comfortable. All the players have been rested and managed well and should all be raring to go!

I haven't been impressed with the coverage on SSN today! An English team in a European cup final tonight, albeit a 2nd rate trophy but surely it's more important than John Fecking Terry's retirement or the cricket!

Arguably the most important match for United since the 2011 CL final and, in terms of changing the direction of the club, the most important match since the 1991 ECWC final.

A win tonight & the Van Gaal/Moyes era is well & truly over.

As much as I like Cascarino I really wonder how much he knows about Ajax's players.

The alarm bells for me, from a United perspective, is the impressive guts they (Ajax) showed with ten men to come back & defeat Schalke in Gelsencirchen versus United struggling to overcome Celta Vigo. . a team who finished in the lower half of La Liga.

I don't think Ajax will in any way be worried or intimidated by playing United.

Nervous! I'm in London working for a few days, struggling to concentrate today though as my mind is on the game. Meeting a lady tonight (we agreed this a few weeks ago and I didn't check the date of the final - I assumed it was on a Saturday) however she has agreed that we can go to a pub for the match and some grub.
We better win for obvious footballing reasons, but also she'll have to deal with me in a bad mood if we don't, which will be a great impression to make.
