Real Madrid become first team to retain the CL

Best team in Europe this season clearly but ...

Madrid have won 1 league title in those 4 seasons, were about 30 seconds from not winning the CL in 2014 and won the 2016 one on penalties. They could easily be on 1 title and 1 CL in that time. Such fine margins and they've got the breaks at the right times in this competition. They are not on the same level as the Barcelona team, not even close IMO.
If you're going to over-analyze these things, Barca wouldn't even be in the 09 CL final if it wasn't for the scandal of Stamford Bridge, or even the 11 CL final if Pepe didn't get sent off for NOT touching Alves. Fine margins indeed...

Pathetic. What has happened is equivalent to tragedy and catastrophe. Team with no soul, evil history won it twice in the row against very inferior competition. I can't handle this.

Just realised lol, only at Madrid, any other club can count the years, possibly minutes between them. Complete domination this season. Well done and enjoy. Another league title or two will make you guys the best side of all time.
Nah. That would still be Pep's Barca side.

Cheers buddy, we'll need a lot more to be considered the best side of all time though. As much as I hate to admit it, Barca under Pep at their best looked a class above still.

Today me and my dad have decided to go together to a Classico game. When does the schedule for La liga come out?

@Vato?

:nono: If they retain the CL next season, they'd have a strong case.

Hopefully United stop that from happening...

Agreed. Both Barca treble winning teams were better than this Madrid team, quite clearly so. But, as a club, Madrid is bigger. And this result just proves it.

They have a way of winning the CL that no other club has. They don't have to be better. Their mentality as a club is the highest there is, and this gives them something extra. That mentality makes them more likely to come out on top in the do or die moments.

 If you had been a Full member, I would have thought you were being facetious. But seeing that you are a newbie, feck knows :wenger:

You are 2 years into the cycle though. If you won another 2 league titles and even 1 CL (which is well possible before this team needs a rebuild) it would be undisputable. The football may not be as pretty (I'm a City/Pep fan) but its hard to argue with what Zidane has achieved. Gotta say he's completely shocked me as a manager, I thought he'd be all about pretty football and a bit naive. None of it so far, good solid attacking football, organised defence getting the best and controlling lots of ego's. Gotta say faultless so far.

it's strange to think that Real Madrid were fairly average for much of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Although they finally won their sixth European Cup with a workmanlike side in the late 90s, their real reemergence can be traced right back to the day their signed their current manager as a player, a pure power play over a prestigious European rival that kick started the galatico era and established them as the side to play for.

Nah. That would still be Pep's Barca side.

I agree but if Madrid win again than they will have bettered Pep at Barca. Pep is easily my favorite manager and his Barca side probably my favorite ever to watch. But history remembers the winners and if Madrid say did three in a row, there would be no doubt in the history books. This season it almost felt inevitable from the start of the last 16 that Real were gonna retain it.

Can't we use that argument for anyone who wins anything really

No idea, mate. @jojojo, @SfcNervion or @giorno probably know these things.

@Vato @Ban I have no idea to be honest. But you should be aware that spanish league fixtures are always in the risk zone to be re-scheduled until 2-3 weeks before the actual gameweek. So for instance, if you are planning for the weekend of el Clasico, make sure that you will visit Madrid/Barcelona between friday to Monday/Tuesday. Becauase there is always a risk of changing the match day, from for instance Saturday to Sunday.

We will be for a few days there hopefully. Are the tickets expensive or you can find them for reasonable prices?

Not sure. The season starts on the weekend of 19th August. Someone said that the schedule comes out on the 21st July, but I don't think that date is officially confirmed.

As sfcnervion says, even once the schedule is out the real schedule gets set very late with games wandering between the Friday and Monday slots. That said Madrid and Barca usually play at the weekend unless there's a scheduling conflict.

Disagree. Single game, with the best XI, 2010/11 and 2014/15 barcelona were better than 2016/17 real madrid, slightly. But on the whole, over the course of a whole season, i think this team is on par with those barca teams

@Vato won't come out before August i think

I have no idea actually. Depends on what is considered to be reasonable, but I am guessing that it should be reasonable if you are buying them as soon as the schedule is released (as your plan is:)). And maybe also from what firm you'll apply for tickets, or if you'd aim to apply for tickets directly from Barca/Real. But I have no idea exactly from where/how and so forth, since I have never attempted it (yet).

About 70 euros would be reasonable. Although of course I would like it to be even less but I somehow doubt it. :)

Depends how much is "reasonable". I went to one a few years ago and paid EUR450. But a friend managed to get one from the official site last year.

Tickets are expensive and you better buy them as soon as they become available. They tend to go very quickly

Completely disagree. It's not even close imo. This Madrid side looked inferior to the current Barca in the two games they played.

The Barca team that won 5-0 in the clasico in 2010 would have done about the same to this Madrid team.

The team that lost 5-0 got their tactics all wrong, the fact they never suffered another defeat like that since then means it's highly unlikely Barca could have repeated that.

Not true at all. They just couldn't get the ball. There's no tactic. They just tried to play football and chased shadows all game. Mourinho learned the lesson and parked the bus months after on Bernabeu in CL.

Madrid's best chance against Pep's Barca is to park the bus.

Football is weird, this Real Madrid couldn't beat the worst Barca team in years. It's just a proof that comparing great teams of the past with current ones is a fool's game.

Why didn't that Barca team defend the UCL title then?

Thanks. I will do that. Then tend to plane tickets. :)

Depending where will the game be in autumn we'll go there.

Been to Madrid once, want to see it again, beautiful city. :)

Mourinho never had such a midfeild and Barca had Xavier iniesta and Messi .

The only reason why Barca didn't win 3 CLs in a row was one of the best defending examples in the history of CL from Mourinho's Inter.

Exactly, if they park the bus, there's no way Barca can win 5-0.
