I find this whole story really strange. It's being reported as a sensation that United haven't extended his contract.

United have decided not to pay £250k a week to someone who can't play for 6 months. He is going to complete his rehab at the club and if he recovers successfully, chances are he will sign a contract when he's ready to play.

If he had signed for someone else or was rehabbing elsewhere I would understand but for now the "bye Zlatan, thanks for the memories" nonsense is incredibly premature.

What a guy. I wish he'd come to us in 2009 instead of going to Barca. Thanks for a fine season.

Great player. Would have loved another season with him brining the league back home.

The very best wishes in his recovery, hope he gets to play at the highest level again.

Would've loved him to stay on, glad to say he played for us for a season though. Great character and magnificent footballer.

Don't think this thread is needed.

He's completing his rehab at United. He'll most definitely be involved in the second part of the season IF his recovery goes well.

It also explains why we're only going for one striker. Rashford and Morata for the whole season would be suicide. It makes a lot more sense if Jose plans to have Ibra involved for the run-in (and hopefully CL knockout rounds)

I personally only care about winning stuff.
Me too. It usually comes from developing a team together for a few years. Creating a style, familiarity etc.

I've yet to see proof that signing stop gaps at the end of their career equals success.

All is not lost though, is it?

He'll continue his recovery at Carrington & more talks are planned in the future. Could still stay.

Jeez man up some of you :(

No shit we don't resign a 36 year old coming back from cruciate ligament damage.

Pay as you play should be most he gets. We really dodged a bullet not extending his contract, those wages could be used elsewhere.

Heart broken to say the least, what a legend this guy really is. Came, scored a load of goals for us in his first season and sadly got injured and then let go. Would have loved to see us retain him somehow for another season or two. The guys a true winner and even just having him here IMO would be great for team morale.

Love this guy, what an amazing character. Came into the team and helped build the mental strength of the rest of the team - invaluable.

Hope he is still with the club in some capacity in the future

Such a fantastic player and character.

I hope if he recovers well, a pay as you play contract is agreed for the rest of the season.

But either way, really glad he got to play for us for 1 season.

Said it before and I'll say it again. He is, quite possibly, the most charismatic, enigmatic, mercurial talent we've had at the club since Cantona. There may, of course, have been better players since then but nobody who has encapsulated all those qualities, whilst being a leader, big game player and born winner. Like Cantona, he'll probably always be considered a tier below the very best but will be above most with his **** hero status.

I would be delighted for him to recover and make a return for us. It would be amazing to see him win something big with us.

Not surprised in the slightest at the news. Fairly sure we will simply monitor his recovery and decide what both parties want to do when he has recovered.

Right decision me thinks. After recovering, if he is still available, he should be offered a new deal.

Stone giving me hope he will sign a deal! Also that would explain why United have not did any sort of farewell to Zlatan on their sites.

I think he will be back playing and sooner than people think.

For me to have him around Carrington will be crucial, i wouldn't be surprised he took up a position as a coach.

You've just seen a pretty average United side win 2 trophies and a CL spot.
A league cup and europa cup doesn't cut it for me. If you want to win leagues and champions leagues, as a club like United should, you need to build a team over time with a definite style. It's how we've always done it.

I know you disagree because last summer you said:

"One great year of Zlatan could make us Champions."

I don't blame Zlatan for us finishing 6th but your prediction was still miles off. Champions are a cohesive unit that normally grow together over a period of time.

Let's get on with the approach that's always served us well rather than hoping a guy at the end of his career can produce a magic trick.

Farewell my bleep. United will want to monitor his recovery and even though Ibra had two or so dodgy periods where he didn't play that great or score - he scored nearly 30 goals. There's a reason Rooney was on the bench and Ibra was rarely rested. He would be a great option to have still. So I think it's premature. I think we'll see him in some reserve games and then back in the first team either starting or from the bench before xmas depending on his recovery. His age isn't really an issue and his character/mentality is important. He will be good in and around the dressing room. Players can watch him recover and see what it take to over come these things - regardless of age I would expect him to re-sign and if he comes back strong, he will stand a better chance being fresh up until the final games. After a season where we've struggled for goals, and I know his wages are an issue but not if we're not paying them at the minute - will we really give away his goals? I can't see Wayne returning to his goalscoring best so we'll see

Bit of a stretch here, we won the FA cup last year and Ibrahimovic didn't play in the semis or the final of the Europa League.
As well as not playing in the semi or the final he only scored in three europa league games. It's a massize stretch to suggest Ibra played a big part in us getting top four. He like the rest of the team was just average in the competition. We're just lucky the opposition was so poor.

Yeah, was half-expecting an official statement about his rehab yesterday. I'm confident that we haven't seen the last of him in a United shirt.

Maybe, was it when it took weeks until we made a statement? I seem to remember the club got a lot ot stick over it so they should know better from that time hopefully. It's just a bit weird as if Zlatan were to leave I think the club would have wrote something about it. It's like they wait now to see how quick he recover.

And from what I understand, the retained list must be out a certain date every year? So it would be stupid to retain him now, in june, and pay him while he's out. Rather take the chance and risk him going to another club but i'm sure United are confident he will sign if we want him when he's fit.

We need to sign him back up after the injury heals. He's every bit a world class player and his game hopefully won't be effected. If ever there's a player over 30 that can be afforded the luxury of hanging around at a club, it's him.

Wish we'd have signed him 10-15 years ago!

Still find it incredible how that fecker Adrian wasn't punished for that scissor kick

Agreed, he was wasted at PSG and Barca. Such a shame.

Anyway I'm sure his presence around the club can only bring positivity and a winning mentality.
