Would be a real shame. The challenge is replacing a player now, not once you have 5 subs.

Preparing for the former influences your entire draft strategy and players you go for. The latter is a cop out.

You'll have plenty of chances to replace players after the first round matches are done. You'll have two injuries and if you roll 2 crap boxes you're done either way. It's not like you won't lose quality players up ahead.

Think Edgar idea was quite good one as we have one lower tier player(the bonus one) compared to what you'd pick and we had the Skizzo's round which was as good as injury round with everyone losing a top player. 5 unpicked is a lot, interesting to see your team in the end. There is an AM that is bound you have picked IMO as he was available in quite a few boxes, but little to no use for us.

Preparing for the former influences your entire draft strategy and players you go for. The latter is a cop out.

Well, in fairness the OP states clearly that the double injuries will occur after each round. So, having a pair of players out after the initial drafting, before the first knockout stage, was never on (as per the OP): What was on, at one point, was a random injury round: So, at most, managers who went by the OP would have drafted with a single injury in mind up till a certain point. And then, well before drafting ended, it was stated a) that there would be no injury round and b) that there would be no injuries whatsoever before R1/knockout.

In other words, if it was suddenly decided now to take out a pair of players, or even just one, you certainly couldn’t blame the managers for being unprepared for that eventuality.

That's what I'm referring to. And no, saying there would be no injuries late in a draft isn't the same as saying it from the off.

Look, I'm not even playing the game part, but I would be pretty miffed right now as every pick since R1 was based on having a squad and tactics that could survive a random injury.

E.g. you don't go 4-2-3-1 for starters as even getting very versatile players you will really struggle to sort anything out with just three subs and the compromise in quality of not picking specialists everywhere would be really significant.

But you can’t go with an injury round to begin with, then cancel it before drafting ends (at which point people may change their strategies for the final picks - the effects of which may vary radically from manager to manager depending on which boxes they’ve landed in), and then reintroduce it. That’s as unfair on the managers in general as canceling it in the first place - arguably more so.

I'd say less so, but yeah, I'm not arguing it should hold, just that such crucial expectations/rules of engagement shouldn't be messed around with.

I imagine EAP looked at the various squads and decided it could create loads of dead rubbers. It's still unfair on those drafting well regardless of good/bad box luck.

Round 7 - Special Event

Use the Default Criteria and pick a player for the manager next to you in drafting order. This player WILL HAVE to play for 1st round and cannot be injured/dropped during rest of drafting.

E.g. P-Nut will pick for harms, harms will pick for Tuppet and so forth till Ecstatic/MDFC picks for P-Nut.

No GKs can be allotted.

Rules:

- No Sheep players to be allotted.
- You can have discussions with those who'll nominate the players for you, ask for players in preferred positions etc, but all discussions need to happen in this thread. No PM negotiations. MANAGER CANNOT ASK FOR A SPECIFIC PLAYER. Best you can ask for is a position and get what the previous manager nominates for you.
- Final decision on player quality, choice etc rests with myself.

It would have been less so if it had seemed nailed on until the last couple of rounds that an injury round would actually take place: As it stands, though, the scheduled injury round was R5 - and it never happened. From that point on, the picture changed - and with each new round (w/jackpot cards and whatnot) it became more obvious that it wouldn't happen.

2 Ballon D'Ors put him in a group that he, quite simply, does not belong in, but the way he is usually ignored on here (by me included) is unfair, considering the man's talent.

Yeah, but there's a reason for it.

And, no, I don't mean the Liverpool connection. That plays its part - similar to how T-shirt (a player many would rate higher than Keegan, in spite of his conspicuous lack of Ballons) is likely to be received - but it's not the main reason.

You can't sell him as anything but what he was, i.e. a second striker. Same with T-shirt, same with another unpicked Ballon winner from your own neck of the woods *, same with - dare I say it - Cantona (although he is obviously scan voter sexy as few others, so there's that).

Second strikers simply haven't been popular in drafts for as long as I've played 'em on here. At most you could field someone like Mazzola or [UNPICKED - I think], i.e. what you could sell as "direct" No 10s or AMs (players who were, historically, inside forwards) - but specialist second strikers (not playmakers as such) with a more "primary" striker as an actual partner? Not so much. Certainly not in a "final worthy" sense.

But I predict a change. The 4-2-3-1 is old news. People will now go for some kind of feckin' wingbackery - or, actually, for the ol' 4-4-2.

I'll do it myself. And if there's acceptance for 4-4-2 variations - well, there you are. The specialist second strikers will be in demand again.

The problem is that he is too obvious, in a sense, I think. By which I mean, too obvious as both a double Ballon winner (but an underwhelming one) and a second striker.

Again, similar to T-shirt (apart from the Ballon part - although he was high on the list on a few occasions).

Cantona - and several other similar types - are sort of plausible in a role that is similar enough to a No 10 for people to cut them some slack. Just about creative enough - or simply just inside forward-ish enough - to make people buy it.

Plus, of course, neither Keegan nor T-shirt comes with any goodwill. As in - zero.

The other Ballon winner is actually the prime example, though. He simply isn't considered - I'd be willing to bet he has less appearances in drafts than Keegan. And he is, precisely, a second striker of the sort who excelled in a kind of setup which people don't normally go for (or haven't, so far) in these drafts.
