Cheers. Enjoyed that myself. Used to watch that Valencia side with the likes of Villa, Silva (Ffs we really should have bought him), Mata and Pablo Hernandez (wonder what on earth happened to him).
Anyway fair to say Villa is arguably the greatest Spanish forward of all time, or at the very least for Spain, given Raul.

It's a great box - couple of quality full backs left, DM's, not to mention one very renown winger and couple of strikers.
Me to, what a side that was.....Banega, Silva, Mata(such a different player back then), Villa and Pablito. They played some great football as Valencia always did but tbh been a while since i watched Villa as a striker and while i was aware that he worked hard i was stunned by the amount of running he did, a proper work horse up front that covered for both wingers when needed. Great player.

Since there seemed to be confusion about whether I should have picked Futre or Heinze, from this point on I picked for both scenarios (always for Futre before). He was expected to get an out and out winger, so I was going to get whichever outside CB came up first, but the overriding logic was that -so long as RTs assigned player could fit into an empty role in my tactics- it was best to go with that to preserve all random/outside factors out of the equation.
RT and I have essentially picked off the same rolls, boxes and assigned player. The only difference is drafting strategies and decision-making.

Also have flexibility to risk on/off the defence and midfield and manage different in-game scenarios switching from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 diamond and back to a mean countering 5-3-2 if needed.
The Heinze version is obviously closer to what I would plan to build on going forward as I picked Rossi and dropped Förster for Enzo thinking about the end game, not a R1 I wouldn't play anyway.

I would actually rather have the Heinze squad. Should survive a R1 and the Guardiola option is far more valuable going forward. Could always play Popescu if the defence needs strengthening.fecking Heinze
Point of the exercise was showing how you can come out better off even with a poorer legacy assignment.
@antohan .For the Futre one if you had Forster instead of Abidal would have been even better. My favorite one with Popescu at the base of the midfield diamond (although in that sweeper role is purely semantics).
I'd have preferred Heinze to be a LCB in a back three tbh. He's vulnerable there with Krol bombing forward.

i like the Futre team more, better and more balanced. Heinze Lucio pairing with a crap gk and Pep at DM with flying WB no matter how good they are and they are fecking great would get roosted by a good attack.

@NM I've ad Em Hughes in previous drafts. He's comfortable at CB, LB and DM. Fits in a Back 4 or back 3. Very versatile and good player. You're underrating him greatly.
Indeed. He's one of the very top defenders from that box.
Enzo was more important going forward than Forster. You can't win with Futre as SS. That's the sort of R1 risk I always take.
It is indeed a more robust R1 team and I could have easily replicated that in the Heinze team. I thought it was more relevant to show how easily you can switch from one to the other and the value of Guardiola going forward. If I faced a difficult game I would shore it up and keep Guardiola on the bench for later rounds with a better CB pair. That CB pair is the only significant area for improvement and it wouldn't be particularly hard to pull off.

Again, could be starting Popescu instead but didn't want to muddle things up too much. The point is the blueprint and tactical options more than "best XI against imaginary opposition".
BTW, you do realise I dropped both Nesta and Förster, don't you? Doubt anyone got shafted as badly as I was.
Excellent keeper. I could have picked Iribar whom Spaniards rate somewhat higher due to his Euro 64 win but deliberately opted for Arconada.

I agree the Futre side looks better and more the finished article for a R1 (unsurprisingly since I assumed I had Futre all along).
The other side has more draft-winning potential though.
I always ride my luck in R1 and opt for what is best long term. See the Reality Draft where I went into R1 with Götze pulling the strings. Why? Everyone had great 10s so when reinforcements came I landed both Baggio and Nedved as nobody needed them

We had a game in one of the drafts where I was using that version saying the same.
Think it was during the time you were off tho.yeah both teams are quite close in terms of style, so the transition is easier. Have to say the first one looks much more robust defensively tho and with Futre instead of Heinze the quality of the team receives a good boost.
Yup, think we had similar bad luck tbh. We've dropped Iniesta and Eto'o, but were lucky enough to replace them with Luisito, Kalle/Villa.

Mmm... seems by putting Guardiola in there I painted a massive bullseye on Heinze and detracted from the beauty of the Nedved-Enzo-Paolo Rossi triunvirate.
Funny thing is I could have avoided dropping Förster and picked Enzo at the death but it was the right decision as
1. Rossi would have to go and I love that pairing
2. Bossis and Enzo were pretty much in the same boxes so I was never going to get both (and didn't by the tiniest of margins).
TBF I picked Nesta fully aware that Skizzo would make me drop him. I was protecting Pupi and deliberately prioritised him over Krol as the plan all along was to then pick Krol rather than having him blocked.
Why is Paul ince ineligible? He did play for Liverpool and united right?
