That's exactly how drink drivers think.
"I didn't think I was over the limit. I feel fine. Honest guv'."
I'd obviously not drive after drinking. 12 hours later though, there's never any effect that I feel.

Reading the Grand Old Team thread, they seem to think he's a "model pro letting himself go in his retirement year at his boyhood club".

"Model pro"! Just shows how soft the national media have been on him for his entire career if Evertonians think that.

He knows the rule and stupid enough to break it

He knows the rule and managed to get caught with his pant down

He's drinking the night before means he comes to training under the effect of alcohol. Stupid.

He's drinking after the training and driving, stupid.

I can't believe anyone defending this guy, yes it may have been a standard drink but you don't get called and locked up at a police station for being 0.0001 over the limit, if the report is true he's 3 times the allowed threshold then he's properly fecked, and rightly so.

Hope this ain't true, as with kids himself you'd really, really think his take on this type of thing would be more sensible.

Also would be so stupid after his Everton career has gotten off to a really great start.

If it is true, he should come out and address this problem, sort it out and still have a few years at Everton .
Lets see what happens, but maybe getting caught like this will act as a wake up call. Easy to brush off a few photos at a party, not so easy to do the same if charged for drink driving.

Gazza was around the time when I first began to really follow football, so I cant really remember, but did he ever appear in papers for drink etc?

The fact that you don't feel the effect doesn't mean there isn't one. You can be impaired while still feeling totally fine. Being over the limit 12 hours later is still being over the limit.

Possibly a downwards spiral from this I think. He'll be banned from driving and in doing so will have to resort to getting taxis/escorts everywhere. This will probably allow him to get pissed even more as he no longer is in control of a vehicle.

We shall see. We all know Wayne likes a drink

Disappointing to read this. Especially when there was starting to be a good feeling around him as a result of being back at Everton. Shame, and also foolish. You can't condone anyone drink driving.

I don't buy the 1 unit per hour after you stop. Doesn't make sense as surely your body is processing alcohol as you drink it too. I know that's what is always said but I'd question the science.
Alcohol processing is exponential if I remember correctly, the more you have the slower overall rate of processing.

No wonder he's quit England duty, more time to get pissed! Good on ya Wayne get the next round in.

Unfortunately it's been evident for a while now he's a heavy drinker, hope he can get the help he needs.

Seriously though, when he's had so many high profile controversial incidents regarding drink, whether it's regular binges or just the odd 3 or 4 every few weeks. If it's getting you in hot water, it's a problem with drink.

He either needs to reign it in completely or be a lot smarter about it.
Its not what I'd categorize as a drinking problem, which is a serious medical issue, but whatever.

Heavy drinking doesn't mean you need help. There's plenty of people for instance that don't touch drink during the week and then heavy drink over weekends.

Known as binge drinking, a form of alcoholism.

In the past there have been plenty defending similar conduct by Rooney like after the bender he went on last season between international matches. Is there any excuse for a professional player to behave in this way, no of course not. He´s a older player that´s supposed to be a role model but it´s clear he´s not interestd at all to behave like one. Model pros like Ronaldo,Messi,Ibra and so one would never do this as they have the pride to give it their best. Then this drink driving has no excuse plainly because he´s putting other people in jeopardy. Making excuses for him because he was once a great player is just sad. The question I would ask is how long has this been a problem and how on earth are people ok with a player getting paid a fortune and then behaving like this.

I appreciate that but my point is that his drinking is clearly causing issues in both his personal and professional life as shown by a number of incedents that have made it to the press and despite this he's been unable to put a lid on it and show a bit of professionalism.

I say "made it to the press" because I'd bet my life that there has been more incedents that have gone undocumented. United have a team dedicated to managing these sorts of incedents and keeping them under wraps.

Yeah absolutely. I don't rely on drink or dependent of it but when every now and then I go fecking mental for a couple of days over the weekend. Then spend another 2 weeks telling myself - never again!

So let's say you're out and you have 1 drink a half pint, are you drunk? Did you just murder someone because you had the tiniest trace of alcohol in your system? It's common sense. If you're blood alcohol is something stupid then you'll be done and rightfully should be done for it.
If you have half a pint you won't fail the test though.

And if you fail the test the next day you had a skin full and will still be feeling it.

Are you from the UK? You realise it is not a zero tolerance limit?

By that right about half of UK must suffer from alcoholism then. Everyone I know have binged at one point or another.

alcoholism
ˈalkəhɒlɪz(ə)m/
noun
  1. addiction to the consumption of alcoholic drink; alcohol dependency.

Drinking a lot at weekends isn't the same thing.
Speak to an alcohol counsellor not post a on Oxford dictionary definition.

Or, look at the last part. Alcohol dependency, over doing it at the weekend is a dependency, why not do it in moderation or not at all, or do people need 15 pints every Saturday night to have fun? Try reading up on alcoholism, you'd be surprised.

I don't need to, I've seen all too well in my personal life how many issues binge drinking can cause, and heard all the excuses under the sun about how they "don't have an alcohol problem, they can go without" yada yada.

As an example, Georgie Best and Gazza were well known for having a binge at the weekend. Remind me how they ended up. That's 2 of many

Sad to read this... He's been doing very well at Everton but instead he's in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
