Again I don't think a draw will be enough. If we draw and Benfica win then both we and Cska will be 4 points and Benfica 3. Then any negative result in Lisbon will put us under much pressure in the next 2 home games and the group will be complicated.

The 2015 group still have its shadows on. We're were too much confident of getting through it till we complicated it a lot and we went to Germany asking to defeat Wolfsburg. We must avoid a similar situation here.
I fully understand your point and I don't imagine Jose will allow for any complacency to set in. I just feel that we will be too strong for the other teams at home and therefore a point here puts us well on course for the benchmark ten points. Obviously the quicker we can get qualification wrapped up the better, which allows us to switch our main focus to the premier league.

We must win this game but a draw isn't a complete disaster. What can we expect from CSKA? Are they still the same side we faced 2 years ago or has anything changed?

Whoscored says Mario Fernandes is out (great!… but their coach says he'll feature if there's any chance) and… that Matić is doubtful?!?:nervous:

After his Burton show, I was kind of hoping Lingard would start, but…

If Mario Fernandes is indeed out, that would be fantastic for us. He's a menace to play against as a wing-back.

Need a 1-0 Jose special tonight. Though I fear a draw is more likely.

Groups like ours were you have 4 teams all with a chance of taking points from each other are sometimes much more dangerous than they appear.

Ideally, you want a Group like Liverpool's. Two mediocre sides and one so bad everyone will beat them.

With that in mind, we really need to be going for the win tonight. Get qualified as soon as possible so we can coast the last two games

Luckhurst tweeted that Valencia didn't travel. If he is having knee problems then it's even more baffling that we didn't sign Aurier.

Hopefully it's just a precaution and a rest before his hectic schedule with national team.

Gonna go all Paul Merson, and since I've not heard of any of their players (apart from that goalkeeper who has played for them forever) I'll assume they're not up to much.

Nah. Not for me, Jeff. Never 'eard of 'em. 0-3 United.

Even more strange that we let TFM go out on loan, although it does seem that he's doing pretty well there (despite Palace playing dreadful).

I'm sure Darmian and Young will be the full backs tonight, even if I'd much rather Tuanzebe got a chance at some point.

I think Tuanzebe is the reason we didn't sign another RB.

Its not strange because Darmian or Young would be played over him anyway. He needs to play regularly and he wouldn't get close to that here. Tuanzebe is currently injured too.

Exactly. That's the part I find strange. I'd say he's at a similar level to both, and with Valencia not able to play every game surely it makes sense for him to fill in.
I can understand Young starting over him against poor opposition just because of his crossing ability, but Darmian is just a stop gap that's taking up game time.

Our last away win in CL was against Leverkusen (5-0) in Moyes season.

    Since then our results are
    Vs Olympiacos - Lost 2-0
    Vs Bayern - Lost 3-1
    Vs PSV - Lost 2-1
Vs CSKA Moscow - Draw 1-1
    Vs Wolfsburg - Lost 3-2

    Played 5, lost 4 and drew 1.

I agree with this - a draw tonight wouldn’t be that bad. A win and we’d be laughing obviously.

Eurgh. I suppose drawing you away group games isn't a bad result so we've gone in preferring not to lose rather than going for a win. Unfortunately we've been too shit to even do that.

These are no bad side and would be happy to escape with a draw here. Personally I'd have put out an almost full second string. Just to freshen it up. Blind Smalling Lindeloff etc But Jose wont do that and with injuries that seems like a non-runner anyhow. He will go for the win and Hopefully he will again prove why he is the manager and not us.

I gone for the 1-1 to keep us top but I'd not be surprised to sneak a boring 3 points

Im reading Valencia to be rested... Any conformation on this?

    Rested ?

Well that's Darmian or Young starting then but I think since we play Palace on Saturday Young may stay on the bench to be rested as well.
    Young wont be rested.

He has only had 3 games and he does not play international. He will play these next two and get a two week brak, i expect.

He may go slightly more defensive and play Blind depending if he has come for a smash n grab. But with Youngs speed and crossing I think he sees him as too important in that kind of break out formation.

Is Carrick injured? he is not included in the squad!
So Matic and Herrera then, hoped that Jose could rest Matic.

Our last 2 visits have both been really tough. Both at 2 different stadiums. Winning 1-0 at Luzhniki (October 21 2009) and drawing 1-1 at Khmki (October 21 2015).

The pitch always seems to be terrible though. Can't see this being a high scorer and wouldn't surprise me if it's 0-0 to be honest.

Careful with what you wish for. Whoscored is giving him as doubtful to play, meaning he might be injured too.

Eremenko Jr got caught for cocaine use so he's on a lengthy ban.

A win would obviously ideal, but a draw would be a decent result. Not an easy trip to Moscow but Bailly coming back in eases a few of the other injury worries although the midfield obviously doesn't need any more absentees just now. Valencia, Jones, Pogba and Fellaini would probablyall start this game if they were available and Carrick's experience would be handy on the bench so if United can get a point or dig out a 1-0 or 2-1 win under the circumstances, then all good.

Could very well be it, although I still think it's harsh on Lingard to leave him out. Anyhow, minor detail, but no way Bailly plays on the left of Smalling, which opens up doubts. Also, it could be Darmian on the right and Young on the left too, specially if Fernandes is out.

I wouldn't mind Matic having a rest as it goes, but we cannot afford that it seems. I wonder whether Mourinho has any thoughts on Blind playing as a midfielder at some stage. I think he's a quality player, with a great attitude. Not as destructive as a Matic, or the all-action Pogs... but he's an intelligent football player, and very competitive.

Be good to see Mata, or Martial, or Miki get a grip of this game and take the match away from CSKA with some magic. We need them to become match--winners.

Probably Lindelöf would step first to midfield than Blind.
