I pray for a 2-1 win in the derby with 20-30 per cent possession. Two headed goals, one from a corner and one from a floated free kick, by Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.

Feck, I didn't catch that, and thought he came across well in the interview.

Have we played like that this season?

He's saying that City, Chelsea and Spurs like to build play from the back, while we prefer to get the ball forward quickly and use our aerial prowess/physicality to win knock-downs in dangerous areas.

He's right, we are more direct than those three sides. And that's fine. No reason for people to be so precious about it.

Well Pep isn't wrong we often play the long ball when we could just play it out from the back but that isn't a bad thing if you keep possession. Against Southampton that was the case. The difference with us and Pep's City they have a great game plan, if you can keep possession and attack with pace then defending isn't important, (when it goes to plan) but if it doesn't they don't have a plan B.
This morning I read that Aguero got injured in a car accident and could be out for a month maybe two. This happens to City every year, Aguero getting injured and when he is out they drop points. The first team they play that marks De Bruyne out of the game, City will drop points because everything goes through him.
Yes sometimes its just annoying and we could do a lot better, but its not bedded in the way we play everytime.

But its only the case 10% of times , and people judge you on that assuming its our standard routine is down right hillarious and D grade negetive propoganda.

Another way of saying - I have no clue how to play against their style so why don't I spout some righteous bullshit in the media to manipulate them into changing it to a style that I can play against.

People on here seriously like to get offended though. It's only a real dig at United if you believe yourself that long balls are a bad thing.

They did a pretty decent job handling it last season though.
We are a different beast this season. I expect us to do much better now. We just couldn't score last season. Even against these two teams, we had clear chances which we squandered.

Also this post was made in October 2015 when I still thought van Gaal would be successful at United. Pep was my original choice to succeed van Gaal but that was before Jose parted ways with Chelsea, van Gaal and his football turned out to be shit and unsuccessful.

Lineker's such a shit-stirrer. Don't worry, Pep. We still love you.

What does that supposed to mean? He rates Pep as one of the best, doesn't mean he is not annoying twat or cnut.
Mate, it's the Pep **** they're fecking weird. They think if you rate Pep you have to hang posters of him on your bedroom walls and defend him over everything on a rival fans forum.

And if he moves to another club you have to start supporting that club. Perfect example of that is @FCBarca

What is he talking about with second balls? I think we have played good football this season with the exception of Soton and partly at Stoke, and I'm certainly not sure if Chelsea is great to watch either.

This is just making a mountain out of a molehill. Linekar is the one stirring things up and fans have just jumped on it. Save the emotions for Saturday.

Doesn't seem like a jibe at us tbh. Sounds like he's saying we play and we can have the second ball too.

I don't think he said anything insulting. Our footballs much better this season but we do play some long balls - nothing wrong with it.

We can win playing different styles and that's a positive.

We mostly don't play like that though.

Long balls played this season:

Spurs - 391
Liverpool - 375
Chelsea - 374
United - 334
Arsenal - 311
City - 277

He's talking shite but I'm glad to see he has such a poor grasp of how his rivals are playing.

No, the annoying thing is that we don't play that way as a matter of course, it is simply an additional weapon in our armoury - it is absolutely used as a means of having a dig at United and perpetuates a myth. I doubt any of us are going to be having sleepless nights about it, but this is a forum and we're just having our say.

Rookie mistake talking about your city rivals. You could see him backtracking when Lineker started gently stirring.

Managers only make negatively implied observations about playing style when it is effective. He implies Tottenham and Chelsea "like to play" which implies we don't "play". We won two major trophies by not playing. Tottenham and City won nothing by playing. Figure that one out.

I don't think there is a huge difference between how Chelsea play and we play, compared to the likes of City, Spurs and Liverpool. United and Chelsea definitely have more in common stylistically than the latter 3.

Personally, I think this season, and last season, we were poor at winning second balls, so I don't think we're really using such a thing to our advantage.

Curious statement to make, clearly thought out.Tottenham and Chelsea are, or at least were last year, excellent at winning those second balls and dominating the opposition midfield through their strength.

It was the fawning nature of the interview that irritated me - not just cos it fell into the "everyone loves Pep" crap, but cos the general attitude to Mourhino is quite the opposite. Which manager took time out of his high pressure schedule to take the p*ss out of himself playing in goal in a charity match?!

Mourinho's sides are more direct than Guardiola's sides, this has been and will always be the case.

In other news, water is wet.
There are two ways to be direct, One is long balls target man midfeild by pass , and the second one is direct vertical passing along the ground and linkup play.

You cant genralize our style of play, and make judgements based on that which applies time on us. Yes Sometimes we should build from the back specially in european games unless your are devestating on the counters with great wingers, But these are very rare in our style of play.

It's a term used for long ball tactics. When a long ball is launched another player has to win the second ball or the header resulting from the long ball.

Press creating mountains again.

When us mere mortals say something, it's an opinion. When someone significant says something of an opposition it's a jibe or mind games. Can't they have an opinion without it being a dig?

Hahaha just coz his team cant defend properly he is taking shots? I'd love to know which team this season has covered the most ground, we probably wont be even top 4 I reckon but we are still joint with the same points but preserving our energy, Jose isn't daft.
