I didn't see said interview but I've seen several people say they saw an interview with a woman where the woman said, before all this happened, another random woman came up to them and said "you're all going to die tonight" and walk away. After the woman said this she was taken away from the interview to speak to the police.

Handguns are completely banned in the UK as are any form of automatic weapon. It's just not in our culture to own them any more. I used to have a 4 10 and eventually a 12 bore when I was growing up because I lived in the country and used to go shooting Rabbits and Pigeons with my mates (strictly for consumption, it was drilled into me by my mother that the only pleasure should be taken from the fact we would be eating what we killed). Anyway, even with break barrel shotguns that were slow to load the Police were incredibly hot on it and used to visit regularly to check we were storing them correctly (chained in a locked locker which itself was bolted to the floor, the ammo had to be kept in a locker of it's own in a separate room with a separate key. I can't remember if this was my local stations rules or strict law as it was 10 years ago I sold them but the last visit I had when I still owned them I told the officer I hadn't used them for over 6 months and he persuaded me to sell them to the local gunsmiths.
We're a much safer country for it.
Brings to mind a scene in Orange is the New Black where Crazy Eyes is checking a customer receipt leaving the store:

Why the feck would a civilian need an automatic capable of firing multiple rounds for self defense? The large numbers of casualities could have been avoided in many cases like these if there were some kind of restriction to the kind of weapons civilians can possess.

From the videos it looked like the fire rate was multiple shots per second. That's a freaking military grade weapon.

Am noticing a bit of a kerfuffle on twitter about the media being slow to label this as "terrorism". Do they have a point? My own take on is that you can't call something terrorism unless it's done to further a specific agenda. And until we know this agenda we can't call what's happening the act of a terrorist. Thoughts?

Same debate happens every time. But yes you're right that the motive is what determines whether it's a terrorist attack, although the media takes far less time to wait and find out when a certain profile of suspect is involved.
