Horrendous today and been very poor for a while now in truth. Fellaini rightfully deserves to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
Lets not get ahead of ourselves. He has barely played this season. He was our player of the season, last year ahead of a few WC/very good players.

That was his worst performance in a united shirt. Just horrid. As of now Fellaini totally deserves to be ahead of him in the pecking order. Can't believe I'm saying that. He made Matic work so much harder.

I'm a big fan of Herrera, but no excuse for him today. Should have stepped up and didn't. Was our worst outfield player by a long way.

I know it's still relatively early in the season but he's looked average at best in the games he has played so far this season, dare I say, Cleverly-esque

Very sloppy in possession today. Usually much sharper. It's a shame because, in Matic, we seem to now have a midfielder who will take the ball from the defence and get us playing in these tough games but needed a better partner today.

He was poor but fellaini would have been just as bad, without pogba we needed three in midfield but injuries prevented that.

If we want to play a two man midfield the we more than just two players who can actually do the job.

He is vastly overrated by our fans. Love him for his passion but today I could see why he doesn't get to play for spain national team. Horrible game, glad there was mkhi playing, otherwise he would been the lowest rated player.

Rightly behind Pogba, Matic and Fellaini, and not just for this game.

Zero goals, zero assists and no ability to control the midfield so far this season.

Fellaini would've done better, particularly in bypassing their midfield. People were talking about this for 2-3 weeks, and they were right. Fellaini could also offer a threat on goal, something Herrera is not doing at all.

I've never rated Herrera, aside from his tenaciousness and heart. Decent technically, but that's all you can really say. He's not actually good at anything, and in big games looks out of his depth. I'd have been much more comfortable with Fellaini in there.

Feel bad sticking the knife in after a poor performance, seems opportunistic; but alas, I'm not surprised by what I've seen today.

With Fellaini, we are likely winning this 1-0. Pogba would probably bag an assist or add one more to give the scoreline gloss.

Herrera is bang average. He could probably do better than today, but that doesn't change the fact that he is an average player.

With Fellaini we'd have won because Pogba, whose also injured, would have scored?

What the actual feck?

Shit today - however the recent rhetoric that Fellaini is now some better option is fickle, narrative-driven, opportune nonsense that is shot down by clear evidence to contrary over recent seasons.

Herrera is a great player and a bad match or two doesn't change that. Let's not pretend this is regular either - both he and Matic were brilliant against CSKA only a few weeks ago.

He's like their Henderson. No real qualities, just run around a lot, shouts at the ref, roll around on the ground but very poor footballing quality.

Well fellaini is no better than avarrage and pogba wasn't available, it's total nonsense to say we win the game with fellaini, swap him for Herrera and wouldn't have made any difference, neither of them are good enough.

Matic got isolated against Everton and Southampton and Fellaini was on the pitch same logic applies if Herrera had played in those games. To play in a two you need a wider range of skills neither Herrera of Fellaini possess those skills.

Great player ? Really ? And Sergio Busquest surely is a God. Herrera is a so-so player. Even at Bilbao he was never their best player. And it is a bollock said that less chance he gets the worst he will be.

Look at Young, frozen so long, but when he has his chance he is all out giving the best he can.

Perhaps he is now feeling that with Matic adjust so far, he will be no more than bench warmer. And unfortunately Fellaini suddenly plays like Afro-Samurai. But that is no reason for him suddenly being the way he is now.

sorry about my grammar, by the way...

Had a few fouls not called on him today when being blatantly pulled back but christ he was awful. One of the worst performances I've seen him put in for us. If Pogs isn't back in the next few weeks he really has to step up

Looking over my shoulder.
I like Herrera and think he's a very good player, but today he was shocking. Matic was arguably worse, however. Funny saying this, but we miss Fellaini.

Poor Ander. His big problem is a lack of composure. Always has been.

Don't think Matic and Herrera play well together....

Injuries meant we had to play two in midfield and if Herrera or Fellaini are one of those two it's going to be tough against the better sides. Even with both alongside matic today we probably would have seen a similar performance.

His biggest problem is he is simply not talented enough. He tries harder than most players but poor lad just doesn’t have it.

Teams who rely on him will finish 5th or 6th. Which is why he was our player of season last year.

Should sell him in the summer and replace with a young and improving starlet

Awful post.
It's not at all I am not even criticising fellaini. Southampton overran us with fellaini playing the same role, neither player can cope in these kind of games in that role, it's not within their skill set.

Fellaini wouldn't have been allowed to get forward or get in the box and our set piece delivery was shocking so he would have offered nothing more than Herrera.

There was so many occasions he rushed out to a player like a bat out of hell, only for the Liverpool player to calmly side-step him. Seems like an innocent enough flaw but after 30 minutes, it became obvious how lacking in match intelligence he is.

Really poor start to the season. Not sure what people expecting he's never been a world beater he's an average to good player when on form.

How many times did he blast the ball away today?! And I hate his early rushing in towards the opponent, left so much space to exploit behind.

He's always done this. Doesn't have much 'awareness'. Always too attracted to the ball, and doesn't pick or choose his moments when to press or when to maintain position.

Honestly, he should have paid attention to what LVG was trying to get him to do, it was the right thing in my humble opinion when looking at his obvious faults.
He also needs to channel his passion in a more controlled manner. Controlled aggression is always the best way to go about things. Running around without any control is of no use whatsoever.

I really like him, but cannot ignore his obvious faults.
