Jones could knock De Gea out with a haymaker and then smash the ball into our open goal on purpose and someone people on this forum would post 'wtf was Smalling doing there!?'
Tbf most of the people who say that about Smalling will usually say the same about Jones. English so can only be average or course.

Truth is they are both very good defenders. They make mistakes and occasionally get caught out. Just like every single other CB.

The fact that people are blaming Smalling is madness.

That was when Jones and Rojo were injured.

Mourinho gave Rojo a rest tonight cause he only played 3 days ago. The entire team is different apart from Pogba and Lindelof really.
Rojo has been ropey since he returned, understandably, but Smalling is still way ahead of him until Rojo proves otherwise.

There's little separating him and Jones other than Smalling's fitness. Point being, if Bailly hadn't have gotten injured, chances are they'd still be playing together, as they were doing before Bailly got injured. It's not the only reason he's playing, as you suggested. And in that time, Mourinho has called Smalling's form "unbelievable", so it's clear he rates him, as he's playing regularly a year and a half in to his tenure here.

So you rate everyone Mourinho rates then?

Jones, De Gea, Lindelof and Smalling were all at fault in that order. The way Smalling stood like a statue one yard away and let him make the pass unchallenged was comical.
But he wasn’t at fault, Vardy should have never been in that position to begin with.
Blaming Smalling for trying to defend a 2 on 1 situation on the fast break is ridiculous.

He takes the smallest share of the blame. Just because other players did really bad doesn’t absolve him of all blame.

Stop it, he gave him a rest because he is shit at the moment, there is a reason he played him in an easier game.

He was injured for one, and could not move. Blame Mou for putting him back in defence.
The McGuire incident was never a pen either.

His injury and DDG not coming off his line cost us 2 points tonight

What excuses need to be made? He was injured and could barely move, yet he was still the closest defender to actually covering the equaliser.

That's the problem he was too stupid to put himself elsewhere and let Iindelof go into centre back .It's just stupid mistakes from too many players all the time with us and they don't learn

It wasnt his fault unless he decided he wanted to play in the middle.
He shouldve been moved to midfield..

If he takes up a position at the back, Lindelof or Jones cant go there. Easy target.

The stupidest thing I have seen in a while. Couldnt understand why it was happening when they decided to switch Lindelof inside.

If its Jose then its his fault. If its Smalling, then its his fault.
If its up to the players on the pitch, then all of them are fecking idiots

Lack of common sense. Injured and stays in position at CB when defending a lead.

Get out of to way if your injured. Honestly have any of you ever played football? If your injured and unable to continue either get off the park or get in a position out of the way.

Like the pundits said get him up the pitch and out of the way and others drop back. Don't have him in there when he can barely move. Shambles.
Exactly. For someone who's captained this side on many occasions he should of took it upon himself to sort it.

He doesn't have the quality needed to play in top teams, he is midtable level at best

Smalling doesn't just decide to change team setup and tactics. It's mourinhos fault.
