He was one of them for a while but his form dippedWell I haven't been following everything on the Caf but he was thought of as the best defender in the league a while back.

Tbf most of the people who say that about Smalling will usually say the same about Jones. English so can only be average or course.Jones could knock De Gea out with a haymaker and then smash the ball into our open goal on purpose and someone people on this forum would post 'wtf was Smalling doing there!?'

Rojo has been ropey since he returned, understandably, but Smalling is still way ahead of him until Rojo proves otherwise. That was when Jones and Rojo were injured.
Mourinho gave Rojo a rest tonight cause he only played 3 days ago. The entire team is different apart from Pogba and Lindelof really.
So you rate everyone Mourinho rates then?Rojo has been ropey since he returned, understandably, but Smalling is still way ahead of him until Rojo proves otherwise.
There's little separating him and Jones other than Smalling's fitness. Point being, if Bailly hadn't have gotten injured, chances are they'd still be playing together, as they were doing before Bailly got injured. It's not the only reason he's playing, as you suggested. And in that time, Mourinho has called Smalling's form "unbelievable", so it's clear he rates him, as he's playing regularly a year and a half in to his tenure here.
Jones, De Gea, Lindelof and Smalling were all at fault in that order. The way Smalling stood like a statue one yard away and let him make the pass unchallenged was comical.
The fact that people are blaming Smalling is madness.
But he wasn’t at fault, Vardy should have never been in that position to begin with.Jones, De Gea, Lindelof and Smalling were all at fault in that order. The way Smalling stood like a statue one yard away and let him make the pass unchallenged was comical.
He takes the smallest share of the blame. Just because other players did really bad doesn’t absolve him of all blame. But he wasn’t at fault, Vardy should have never been in that position to begin with.
Blaming Smalling for trying to defend a 2 on 1 situation on the fast break is ridiculous.
Erm he isn't that quality at all. He's averageHe was one of them for a while but his form dipped

He's good now and thats in poorer form than he was then. His performances were some of the best in the country in his position.Erm he isn't that quality at all. He's average
Injured? DDG should definitely pick that one, easily. Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
FFS he was injured and could barely walk. Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
Like being injured and still being the only one trying to track the run into his 6 yard box when his goalkeeper hasnt come for it?Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
What excuses need to be made? He was injured and could barely move, yet he was still the closest defender to actually covering the equaliser. Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
Jesus Christ, there was a fairly evident excuse. He played the last ten minutes injured. Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
Erm, did you maybe notice he was hardly standing in last 10 minutes? Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
Jeez - you really are an idiot! Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
Of course it was not a pen. Maguire held his arm over Matic’s shoulder, so that was a free kick thenHe was injured for one, and could not move. Blame Mou for putting him back in defence.
The McGuire incident was never a pen either.
Cant wait to see your excuse for toxic postingCan't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
What the feck was DDG doing there?Like being injured and still being the only one trying to track the run into his 6 yard box when his goalkeeper hasnt come for it?
You blind or just thick? Can't wait to see people come up for excuses for him
Honestly some people! That’s why you can’t rely on a defender like Chris Smalling. 2 points!

Exactly. For someone who's captained this side on many occasions he should of took it upon himself to sort it.Like the pundits said get him up the pitch and out of the way and others drop back. Don't have him in there when he can barely move. Shambles.
Smalling doesn't just decide to change team setup and tactics. It's mourinhos fault. That's the problem he was too stupid to put himself elsewhere and let Iindelof go into centre back .It's just stupid mistakes from too many players all the time with us and they don't learn
