I seriously can't wrap my head around that price. You can make a legitimate case that he isn't even one of the 8-10 best players in the PL! And he'll cost nearly £150m!
Only 2 Van Dijks...

And I think he is (or was) in the top 5 PL players personally.

Inter must feel like mugs

It was really weird how easily they sold him, he had huge potential and they let him go for peanuts.

Barcelona bringing life into their ageing attack Dembele and Coutinho, 2 really good long term signings.

Honestly, this is the best I could have hoped for. Sure its a bit costly but that was inevitable.

We have a huge problem in midfield and needed a WC upgrade imminently.

Couldn't have thought of a better attacking midfielder to join us.

€160m for Coutinho is absolutely insane. very good player, but not 160m great.

If Joyce says it, it's done. Really genuinely surprised that we're selling in January in the midst of a top four battle & CL campaign. What was the point of keeping in the summer just to sell now? Makes no sense.

Hopefully this knocks the wind out of their sails. They can just about replace him in their First XI but it seriously dents their strength in depth.

Van Dijk is 1 step forward but losing Coutinho in January would be 2 steps back.

The appeal of the league will still be there, since there are 6 or so clubs to spread the stars out between, compared to the two in Spain.

After Ronnie and Messi are done much of the appeal in La Liga is gone anyways, they can spend on all the Dembele's, Dybala's and Hazard's they want, they won't ever come near.
Most of the appeal of La Liga rests with Barcelona and Real Madrid, not with Messi and Ronaldo.

Manchester United is the only club in England that comes near their stature and appeal but even United is significantly behind those two.

We have to sign someone. The squad as it is looks significantly weaker without him. Lallana isn’t close to Coutinho in terms of ability.

It would, if they do not reinforce but presumably they are or have been looking at a replacement since summer when the player made it clear his intentions

Weird transfer for Barcelona. They surely have an insurmountable lead in the league and can't play Coutinho in the UCL.
They probably think that he won't be cheaper this summer, so they have no reason to wait.

The transfer fee is insane. What on earth would a younger Messi or Ronaldo cost today?

Surely this can't last?

With that money Liverpool will probably be more of a threat than with just Coutinho

They can just spread that money out on 3-4 positions and be a much stronger team

Dont think they have anyone who can replace him in their first XI unless they buy someone in January. Take away Salah, Mane they are woefully short now of creative players. Lallana, Henderson, Can, Milner, Ox... Bang average

It’s somethink like £105 million up front with the rest realistic add ons if he achieves certain goals.

They've already spent £75M on one. Doubt they'll get 3 more in this market for the money that's left.

Either the bubble bursts or we move towards a culture of players running down their contracts and moving clubs on a free transfer.

I'll be shocked if they don't buy anyone now. They've probably worked on it since the summer.

Definitely a bubble market

It's also being reported that the player gave up 15 million from his end towards reducing the overall transfer fee

Exactly why they want it now - Iniesta is now ready to roll for the CL and be a part timer in the league where Coutinho is full time. It works both for that and for Coutinho for work himself into the team knowing the title is more or less in the bag already.

Neymars killed the market. Just think how much Lukaku would of cost if it was done any time after it, thank feck. Dembele and Coutinho costing £250m is genuine insanity. At least Neymar has the insane marketability(as well clearly superior talent) to make him somewhat worth it - they don't.

Barca fans will somehow blame Madrid for paying 142 million for Coutinho.

The thing with the huge sum of money is it just ends up cancelling itself out. Liverpool demanded so much from Barca due to the money Barca got in for Neymar.

Now Liverpool will find that clubs will demand ridiculous amounts from them due to the money they received for Coutinho.

Ok. Even so, it's just crazy.

I haven't enjoyed United spending crazy money either. I still can't get my head around the fact that even ordinary players (not Coutinho of course) are going for such high fees.

Let's see. Still dont see Liverpool attracting the kind of ready made talent needed to replace Coutinho. When was the last time they signed someone considered to be world class. Or at the very least 'top class'
