Neville is right. Why wouldn’t you take an academy player to sit on the bench? This is purely to force some pathetic agenda that city haven’t got a big enough squad with the right quality. Pathetic. I’m not as anti pep as some on here but this certainly makes him look like a complete tool.

I’m watching them now. They’re relentless in possession and pressing! We always dominate possession but always fail to calve out any real chances and when we do we fail to put them away more often than not.

They aren’t as magical as say Barca are in possession. They just wear teams down by pass pass pass, then punishing when an opposition player makes a wrong move or commits himself. Seems such a basic plan yet we failed to string 3/4 passes together in the second half against spurs.

Pep went with a decimated bench numerous times at Bayern, when players were not available. Never ever did anyone think it was meant to signal a lack of signings or disappointment with transfers. Maybe we just didn't understand his hints lmao.

Naming 6 players on the bench is a weird move. And when your 3rd choice left back can score with his right foot outside the box it's a little rich to be complaining about squad size.

Is there any argument against not giving a youth player the match day squad experience? Especially given City’s supposed commitment to making their academy a success.

He and City aren't helping themselves by moaning about bad tackles, regardless of whether it's true.

Crying about it will just give City a reputation of a team who can't handle it, and will just further encourage that approach.

It's not about any morale victory. Pep has been complaining about a small squad and not being able to buy etc and we see this as further proof he doesn't give youth a chance when the media perception is completely the opposite. That's all

Why United fans rage about City not using their youngsters?
It’s not so much because he isn’t using youngsters, it’s because he has the most expensively assembled squad coupled with this all conquering academy as City fans keep telling us with the added bonus of “Pep is a master at bringing youth through”.

The bitterness on here is through the roof, what does it matter if he names no youth players or doesn't use them? How does that concern United in any way?

City are a better team this season it's up to the rest of the league to get up to their level

Criticising them for youth players is a new low I never thought I would see#

Goes to show no other manager is criticised like Guardiola, it's not like his team is doing bad this season where it justifies the criticism

You ever watched discussion between Henry Winter and that journo (he should be Newcastle fan) on Sunday Supplement? Thing you described, reminds me of that.

Why is it a new low? Why can’t it be discussed? Even todays opponents manager has picked up on it.

Except he isn’t critised, there will be his usual lap dogs in the press who’ll back him up about this you can be sure about that.

Rooney's ball and van Persie's volley.

I believe the criticism is stemming from the fact that he bid so much money on Mahrez as a last resort when Sane got injured, when perhaps, he could've promoted some kid. How did Rashford come about, after all? Now, there's a possibility that maybe no kid there is good enough right now or maybe not ready like our players, but as outsiders, the media doesn't know that.

Yet another guardiola issue I simply can't understand the worshippers backing him on. It's ansolute nothing to do with supporting anyone, even a total neutral would see that as a perfect opportunity to see an academy player get experience as being part of a match day squad - Ferguson for example often did it nearing the end of a season. Imagine being the best performing youth player, an opportunity like that arises and he prefers to leave the seat EMPTY. He's an enormous attention seeker and roaring hypocrite and that would incredibly disheartening to a young player, they must thing "he doesn't even want to know about us".

Some of you would rather do anything that allow even a fair criticism, however minor, to be aimed at him. I've never seen a **** like following of this intensity in 20 plus years following football.

Why does he have to use youngsters?

Why can't he use all the resources available to him to succeed?

Any businessman uses every resource he has to his advantage should be no different for football as football is also a business

Why is any criticism "bitterness". If conte, mourinho or wenger did the same they'd be criticised too. If they did it having chatted virtuous muck about loving youth, they'd get it even harder.

Can somebody not make a general point without being accused of bias. He chose nobody rather than anybody to sit on the bench, it's a bizarre thing to do and many are entitled to feel however they want about it

I find it strange but wouldn't really make it into a big deal like a lot of people are

I'm sure if a youngster was good enough to be in there he would have put him in

The only reason I think he wouldn't do it is to tell people he doesn't give a **** and to prove a point that he calls the shots or that he simply thinks the youngsters are not able to perform to the level that he requires

This way, a lot of Premier League records gonna be broken.I predict they will break these records(at least).

1-Most goals scored in a season: 103, Chelsea (2009–10)
2-Best goal difference in a season: 71, Chelsea (2009–10)
3-Most goals scored away in a season: 48, Liverpool (2013–14)
4-Most points in a season: 95, Chelsea (2004–05)

Is a "big deal" being made of it? Isn't the nature of a forum to discuss things and isn't naming six players beyond the norm and worthy of discussion. (For many, including me, it's inexcusable to a club peddling the notion they have this great youth set up).

The reality is that almost any criticism of guardiola is met with huge opposition regardless of what it is. He's had some pretty low class moments this season , regardless of how well he has done, and people are allowed to comment on it.

On the other hand if you're saying that they don't have a single young player good enough to even sit on the bench, the a whole new criticism needs to be discussed.

It's definitely a strange decision i'll be very interested to know his reasoning if he explains it after the match

I'm intrigued by it but in my honest opinion it was like Guardiola shot someone with the reactions

On other forums not many people were making such a big deal about it as they are here so that's why I thought it was overblown
