Madrid is in "information-gathering phase". That's a new one I think, must be before "preparing a bid".

Long way to go than.
Bollocks.

Edit: Maybe not bollocks. £100m Works out at 114 million Euro. I'd say we wouldn't take anything less than 100m quid.
Probably bollocks.I think that these news are polls to get information and corroborate ideas.
The "Florentino would be stupid" or "he must sign him",and curiously a day after his good match in Sevilla

We can't sell him cause to have him behind a truly class side would be a massive advantage in really big ties. i.e CL finals and the likes. When things are tight we'll more often than not come out unscathed due to his ability. Give him however much he wants as long as we get a contract that's as long as possible without a clause. Take a match like Arsenal, a team will lose that one 5-3 instead we won it 3-1, he's that damn good.

Fortunately Real needs to adress the aging of Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale before moving on to De Gea

Anyone notice his subdued comments after the Sevilla game? Didn't look too pleased about how the game went, recognized Sevilla were the better team and had lots of chances. Those things matter in a player's head, when deciding on contracts.

Compared to Smalling who felt like 0-0 was a great result and was overly positive about the situation. The difference in mentalities is hilarious.

You're right, but I also think that sponsorship money will not follow if TV revenue will go down. There has to be some connection between the two. PSG and City need to be dealt with by UEFA and I think it will eventually happen.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one because in my mind no goalkeeper no matter how good can even come close to the influence of a top midfielder who's playing at the heart of the team. It's not about De Gea and Isco, it's about a goalkeeper and a midfielder influence. No comparison for me.

The only thing bizarre is your valuation of 38 year old goalkeepers that are "still going". I don't know what football fan in the world would want to have a 38 year old between the posts if his name was anything but Van der Saar.

Cech is still going at 35 and he sucks. Casillas is still going at 36 and he sucks for years. Buffon is also still going at 40 and he's been a horror show for few years now with everyone turning the blind eye because he's Buffon. By the time they get to 32 most of them are not good enough any more.
I actually see @gaucho_10 point. Valuations are relative.
Dave is worth £100m to us but probably isn't with that to Madrid.
Dave probably doesn't improve Real enough to spend that kind of money.
Don't put de gea in the same bracket as any keeper , it's not just his ability on the pitch. It's also his marketability. He is the most marketable keeper today , his style , his catlike reflex looks very cool & stan-able for any young football fans , he can gain fans like no other keeper in world
He easily worth 100m

We need to avoid an Arsenalesque cliff with players' contracts, particularly in the case of our one undisputed world class player.

Our salary structure has just been smashed apart.

DDG's agent is rightly thinking why should my salary not match the top earner in the club.
He is the best goal keeper in the world, our best player by a mile the last 4 plus years.

The pay contract negotiations will be very interesting over the next year, it will remain to see if there was any long term sense in the Sanchez transfer.

I'm sure those noodle partners never have to wait this long

Edit: maybe we should be grateful. This was the same incompetent dithering that kept him from going to Madrid in the first place

What are waiting for? This was first reported around mid January and still not done. Give him whatever he wants. Should be the highest earner at the club.

Kinda do have to wonder with Sanchez reportedly earning around 600k with all his yearly bonuses DeGea’s agent must be thinking right, we have the best player in the team here, best goalkeeper in the world and they just paid this much for Sanchez I must at least get close or more than that.

Should make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the world, if he isn't already, with a clause that stipulates his wage be adjusted in line with inflation/other deals so that he remains the highest paid keeper in the world.

He's the best there is. The only superstar goalkeeper in world football (who also happens to be the best in the game). Give him whatever he wants. Worth at least 10-12 points a season, maybe more.

Just sensationalism. Last person to be worried about a contract offer is de Gea. Its' clear that Ed is waiting for a specific time to offer him and Martial contracts, must be to do with balancing the books.

Are we just waiting to see if we qualify for the Champions League or not?

Just give him 400k and a contract for life, cannot afford to loose him to Madrid

14 - David de Gea has conceded 19 Premier League goals this season, but based on Opta xG data for the shots on target he's faced, the average goalkeeper would have been expected to concede 33 goals. This is the biggest differential by a PL goalkeeper in 2017-18. Exceptional.

Well worth it considering his age and longevity of keepers. He is brilliant, pity Rafa didn’t unearth him!!
Just curious here, if you know, how do they calculate this xG data. Do they decide each case manually or they do have some algorithm that decides based on similar situations/historical data.

You sure it was 40m? more like 13m I remember.
13m for De Gea in 2015?! - Real were trying to buy De Gea 'whole', not just his gloves!

Yeah, that's what I think too.

Lorris, Casillas, Courtois, Neuer are all on £110-130k a week as the best paid goal keepers.

De Gea is already the world best paid on a massive £200k a week and deservedly so. Should he deserve a rise? I'm not sure. He's already paid accordingly based on his performances and ability.

Inflation?! Not sure 3% a year will suffice.

Our contract renewal policy is a joke. Something needs to change, wake up.
What needs to change? When have Utd lost a player they wanted to keep on a free? Bloody drama queens.

I mean it was a while ago now, but didn't pogba fall under that category? Kind of a lot of him wanting to leave but we technically still lost him on a free and prob wanted to keep him.

I don't think it is. Think it's an issue all clubs face at the moment.

With the way the market is at the moment, we're gonna see more and more contract negotiations dragged out, and more deals like the Sanchez deal. Vast majority of clubs can't afford to spend 80mil+ on single players. If a player wants out and to join a certain club, who aren't willing to spend that, they'll have to run down their contract where the selling club risks losing a key player for peanut, or worse, nothing.

Haven't really been in this thread, but I'd say there's a good chance De Gea is off to Madrid either this summer, or for peanuts next.

Sell De Gea. Get Courtois. Less salary, hardly any difference in quality.

I think the fact you have to go back 6 years for a reserve player as an example kind of backs up the point.

It is strange that we seem to let so many of our players, included highly valued assets, run their contracts down.

Do we just assume that nobody will ever want to leave United so we don't need to act? We used to mock Arsenal for doing this but its something we're doing a lot now too. If we get deep into next season and De Gea decides 'actually I've got two years left and I quite fancy going Madrid,' what will we do? Sell him cheap like Arsenal did with Van Persie or let him leave for nothing like they did with Alexis?

All great until Changchun Yatai FC sign Joe Hart on a 700k a week deal.
