Not crapping on your post, Just genuinely curious here, Do you think we will actually win the league or Champions League under Mourinho? As that is where we aspire to be yet are million miles away
I'm as angry as anyone with last night but we are second in the league and just beat Chelsea and Liverpool.

If we are a million miles away from the PL then everyone, bar City, must be that and some more!

Think the way Mourinho works we're either going to see it all click nicely together (resulting in a league win next season) or it's going to be a horror show with him getting sacked halfway through the season.
That would not surprise me. My worry is giving him another £150-200m to spend in Summer and not be much further on if the latter of your scenarios happens.

and that's where the struggle is. On the face of it, we should be happy, there are reasons to be happy I think, but time and time again we look so unbelievably average it's hard to be enthusiastic.

Yeah, I can see that too.

Hopefully though - 3 very good signings either turns it around or leaves quality for the next guy to work with in a more positive way.

Do we want that or have we lost the 'belief' & don't like the quality of footy anyway.

We did just beat Chelsea & Liverpool, :).

Didn't we think it would have clicked by now? How many more millions and time is going to be spent before we realise it's not going to click under him.

I think it’ll go very much the same as this season with City winning it again comfortably and them being so good we just have to accept there’s nothing we can do. I think this City side is just getting started - it’s going to be a rough few years I feel. I don’t think we’ll implode and will probably fight for second most of the season again.

Yeah totally agree. I've never had so many conflicting thoughts about a squad/management.

Off the back of two very good home wins and a great away fightback the team should be buzzing. I really did expect to fly at them last night and have Old Trafford roaring. Instead we got the opposite. It's like we have a team full of robots with only Lukaku showing any real emotion.

I'm not having it's ALL on Jose. I'm fuming with his set up last night but it still should have been enough to get the job done at home. I'm not having that Rashford can have a worldie less than a week ago yet last night can't even hit the target just because he's asked to switch wings.

Team selection was odd though I'll admit. Should have started the same team from weekend. Mata is really important in the set up for me at the moment as he seems to bind things together given the obvious issues in cohesion between Pogba/Sanchez.

I didn't meself, tbh. Too many of the players are just that bit short of being good enough. Some never will be good enough, others are not the finished article.

Jose doesn't need much motivation to favour the pragmatic / dull approach at the best of times. I reckon he would say, ''give me time, the project is still evolving.'' Isn't it?

Don't all slaughter me, I'm just saying that's probably how it is from the JM pov.

in premier league yes, champions league I have serious doubts, our current roster is not competitive enough to compete with Real- Barca- Bayern or Juve, and I also have serious doubts that the upcoming summer acquisitions may allow us to reach that level, with or without Mou.

Even if you give think we had a huge rebuilding job when Mourinho came here (and we did); the big problem for me is that in virtually no areas do we look like a team on an upward trajectory.

Statistically perhaps, league position fine but the actual eye test says we do not look right. Consider a mid-table team that is well coached but lacks a quality centre forward (e.g. Southampton a couple of years ago); they played good football that created chances but they lacked the clinical finishing to push on from 8th or wherever into the top 6. We are the opposite of that kind of team. We probably have the quality but the coaching & tactics are preventing us reaching our potential.

All three of those wins last week didn't exactly convince though did they. You can win one-off games and in this case 3 in a week without looking like a title winner. We played Chelsea at their worst point of the season, at Palace we were terrible for a long time and credit to the boys they fought back and then against Liverpool we exploited a tactic in the first half but the second half performance was abysmal even if we did keep their attacks at arm's length.

Most of our wins this season I finish the game thinking 'got the job done' rather than 'god we look like a really good team'.

Stupid comments from a manager that has been left behind. He doesn't know what to do because he's incapable of reinventing himself. He's the new Wenger.

He needs to be accountable and take some responsibility for the two subpar performances against Sevilla.

Hate the way she shrugs it all off like it's not a big deal. It is a big deal to us fans.

It's Mourinho who needs a bollocking first
Not really. He'll either get sacked or he won't.

The lazy complacent play of the player's was unacceptable. Not making runs or not passing properly, losing the ball at every opportunity, that is absolutely unacceptable.

Wow! The comments in this thread are laughable!
He’s a Cnut
No it’s football- it happens
He doesn’t get it etc

We’re beginning to sound like Arse Fan TV. One knee jerk reaction after another

Think I’ll take a break until the FA Cup game. The negativity isn’t good for anyone’s health
Well said!

Regardless of whatever he says in front of the press, I hope he gave the players a proper hair dryer treatment. His comments in the media can’t really be taken too seriously.

If he really thinks this was the best him and the team could do, then he has completely lost it.

The abysmal tactics were bad enough, but the comments just make me want him out the club asap. The people who opposed his appointment at the very beginning were right. We should ave stayed well clear of him. He'll always be a twat and he'll always play terribly negative football.

Gutted we got knocked out without much of a fight against one of the weaker sides. Just burns and I hope in private Mou is stung a bit more than he is letting on.

Really does sum up the guy that. Forget the performances, forget the result, just have a butchers at those comments. He hasn't got a scintilla of humility about him. It's all hubris and bravado and a self-preservation that shows a lack of concern for the club. It's all about him and how is records stand up. He's had a face like a smacked arse since walking through the door and hasn't exactly enamoured himself with the United fans (imo) and so he chooses to speak like this after one of the most pitiful performances I've seen from us.

Even in this moment of what should be total humiliation for him, he STILL manages to big himself up AND put the club down at the same time. Cnut.

Not even sure he can give them the hairdryer treatment.

They played as he asked them to.
They carried out the instructions he gave them.

He has even said as much himself "I don't think the performance was bad. I don't have regrets. I did my best, the players did their best. We tried, we lost and that is football."

Not that it is beyond him to do so but he would really rock the boat with the players now if he bollocks the players behind closed doors for doing what he told them to do.

The thing is he will never change. We are stuck with this pish style until he goes. He isnt all of a sudden going to start playing free flowing football. We might just have to suck it up for a while yet.

I find it hard to believe that he would have been happy with the performance yesterday. At the end of the day, he cares about results and success more than anything, so I don’t think he is happy.

Always take whatever he says in front of a camera with a grain of salt.

The (peak) Guardian have a who said it Trump or Mourinho game on their page. Pretty easy but, yeah, the media are laying into him now.
He is finished, only a matter of time how long we drag it on. Similar to Moyes and van Gaal, he is starting to lose the plot

Jose knocked United out thanks to a late goal, after a goal of ours was wrongly ruled out for offside, with Porto. He then knocked us out with Madrid largely thanks to a highly dubious Nani red card.

In both of those ties, United played to win and could hold their heads high afterwards. In both of those ties, the OT crowed was won over and riled up by committed and exciting performances from the team. In both of those ties, United played like it was the biggest event of their season.

Against Sevilla we did nothing for a 170 minutes of football. We had 4 shot on target across two full matches of football. We never looked like we cared or that we wanted to win. That comes from one person, and one person only. Jose has totally blown this tie and he knows it. It was embarrassing for a club like United to be associated with that sort of pathetic performance on the biggest footballing stage. I have no problem going out in the round of 16, or of any cup competition - hell, it happens - as long as you do so with your head held high knowing you gave it your all.

Last night, we did it bent over with our tails between our legs. Against a team that conceded 5 to CSKA in the group stage. Shameful.

Aswell as the plot I think he lost a lot of fans/ supporters last night.
It’s all well and good people saying it was just for the press and with the players it’s different, but that’s just assumptions.

All we have to go on is the words he says and quite frankly they were embarrassing and pretty disrespectful to the club, intended or not.

I’ve always stuck up for him when having friendly stick off rival fans but I just can’t be arsed anymore. He’s making his own bed it seems.

Edit: should add, at this time he should be rallying the troops, getting everyone on side, getting the fans behind him and the team, he seems obsessed with creating divisions.

Do you think so? I don't think our league form is bad enough for him to be a goner just yet. I also suspect that if he were to go then there'd be an almighty public rift between him and the club, which isn't something we're going to enjoy if it does happen. Plus we only just gave him a new contract.

He will obviously go at some point but I suspect it'll be next season (if he doesn't improve).

He's officially become a dinosaur. Living off his past glories. I hope Ed and the board are watching things closely. He is publicly mocking the club. Those comments are alarming to hear for anyone connected with the club. I feel like he gave up completely on the CL last night. It was just a strange night right from the beginning with the lack of urgency throughout the game. We are 0-0 halfway through the 2nd and he's standing there laughing with Mr Montella on the sidelines. What is seriously going on here? Lukaku comes out after the game and says players were hiding. You would never feel this was a decisive CL knockout game.

Yeah, next season. Some on here hoped he would last longer than 3 years, he wont. At some point next season he will be gone. We wont sack a manager getting 2nd place in the league

Was listening to Jim White show on Talksport earlier and Tony Cascarino said he felt Jose had put the Liverpool game as the priority. Interesting concept.

Absolutely mental comments and i still can't get over the fact he started Fellaini and Lingard over Mata and Mctominay.

You know what. I wanted him, I've backed him, I've had enough of him. What a load of horseshit - Jose, you have spent around £300million on this team. To draw the worst team remaining in the competition (apart from Basel) and go out with the tactic of trying to win 1-0 over two effing legs is downright unforgivable.

Get rid in the summer. He's lost his touch, he's no longer the amazing manager he was - he has his moments when it all comes together, but its not enough.

All the TV pundits said he must just be protecting the players. I guess they should know so I'm willing ot forgive him his interview. But his tactics on the night are much less acceptable
