Welcome to the Pre Premier League draft. It is a fantasy football draft where players are picked based on their playing time in the United Kingdom from 14/08/1971
(Start of 1971/72 season) to 02/05/1992(End of 1991/92 season). Here are the rules
  • There are 16 manager spots in all
  • All managers pick 12 players. Picking is based on a standard snake format, i.e. Manager 1 picks first, manager 2 second etc. until we reach manager 16. The picking order then reverses so manager 16 will pick again and so forth.
  • Players eligible to be picked are as follows
    • Having played for a UK based club (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) between the dates 14/08/1971 (Start of 1971/72 season) to 02/05/1992(End of 1991/92 season)
  • Player peak is defined as the period in which the player played during these 20 seasons. So for example a player who played from 1989-90 season to 2000-01 season would have his performances for only seasons 1989-90 to 1991-92 counted
Other General Rules
  • All managers have 8 hours to decide their pick, if not they can pick whenever they are ready while the draft continues. If you know you wont be online please PM somebody so as to keep the draft moving
  • Please note the time taken for each pick. In case of ties, teams with the lowest time taken to draft will win. In case you won't be online, leave your pick with someone else
  • Please do not name unpicked players. Repeat offenders will be punished
  • Once the player in named by the manager or assistant, it is considered final. No changes to the player is allowed. Please be careful before picking
  • There will be 12 rounds of drafting
Reinforcements
  • After round 1, reinforcements are available to the managers
  • First Reinforcement round; 2 Picks per manager; Standard Snake format; Picks to be made in the reverse of the draft order
  • Second Reinforcement Round; 1 Pick per manager; Lamb Style
  • Final Reinforcement Round; 1 Pick per manager; Pool is restricted to your semi final opponents squad

  • In case you leave your pick with another person the default time allocated is 30 minutes or time taken by the person to post your pick whichever is higher
Should be lower, no?

I will play to fill up the numbers.

Thanks. Removed the 30 minute minimum rule
@MJJ

I had a standard 30min rule so it didn't feel like you were punished for leaving your pick and the poster you left it with wasn't on the ages. You could leave it with multiple posters but unless there's neutrals around, I wouldn't want to give other managers ideas, especially in this draft

No, I mean the way the rule is worded it actually penalizes you. If the person posts your pick immediately, the time take will be 30 minutes not 5.

Yeah it was confusing so I removed it.

Also, @Physiocrat do you want to play?

  • First Reinforcement round; 2 Picks per manager; Open Pool; Standard Snake format; Picks to be made in the reverse of the draft order
The reverse order is a bad idea in a draft like this.
The 90's Serie A draft is a classic example of why reversing the order is a bad idea when you don't have GOAT's involved.
It ended up being a disadvantage to reverse the order for the last picker, while the ones at the top again got the best out of it.

The best way to reinforce fairly is a sheep/lamb style.

What happened in the Serie A draft?

I could see how going first might not be an advantage, positively, under special circumstances - e.g. if your most obvious upgrade is a player nobody else will prioritize getting - but under normal circumstances it's surely a good thing: You identify what you need the most and pick first from an open pool.

Are there any GOAT's in that time frame tho?

Think reverse snake in this draft is probably the best solution. You can go sheep/lamb for SF/F.

There was a special set of cirumstances in the Serie A draft. First, just enough top tier talent to ensure that the top of the snake could double reinforce with top quality, not quite enough to stretch back to the 15/16th picks. Second, there was an element of randomness/fortune in that too, with the positions required by the bottom half forcing them down certain routes which, in turn, allowed top of the snake free reign to strengthen their own weak spots. For the second point, it's very difficult to legislate around that kind of issue and it's not something that would necessarily be repeated in other limited pools. In this pool I don't think your positions 1-3 in the snake will be as decisive as they were in the Serie A draft where you had GOATs in GOAT form in those spots.

No, there shouldn't be anything comparable to that here.

The eligible GOATs are clearly past their prime, for one thing.

In fact, there shouldn't be a huge gap here between 1-16, quality wise, for the first round. A gap, sure, but nothing like a GOAT-to-mere-mortal gap.

I don’t think it’ll matter much tbh.. The difference in quality between players isn’t much.. We did think about going fastest time goes first but people didn’t want that.. Overall I feel this is the easiest way to get first reinforcement round done.. 2nd reinforcement will be lamb style
