That’s my thinking. That and Ronaldo will surely perk up seeing as this is one of the fixtures that might swing the Balon d’Or in his favour.
VVD and Loveren in defence does not appear to be intimidating but.....

Disgraceful first half, got what we deserved. Chelsea did what they had to and deserved to win. When are we going to play football for 90 minutes, completely had it with the present set up and big changes in personnel and management style is essential

I really don't know whether to stick or twist any more.

With the manager.

I was/am all for supporting JM to build us a new foundation and future but this is kind of like his 1st go at it, and he is trying to adopt United tradition of blooding youngsters. I feel he is trying hard but is failing when it really counts. We are a big club, we should be doing better than this.

We have done okay. Is that what we want? Some performances this season have been appalling. Players seem to be getting worse not better, every game feels a pain to watch and waiting for last minute winners or defending a goal all game ala Chelsea today.

It's ironic, what people thought of JM and parked buses in the past has come back and bit him on the behind today.

His tactics as an observer/supporter have been the same all season and every team in the league has him sussed. How many times have we come up against a packed midfield playing narrow defending for 90 mins and looking for a quick breakaway. Even the bottom of the table teams have played us this way.

Conte knew it. It's our Achilles heel.
When you have a set of players so utterly incapable of being able to deliver a cross in by beating the first defender, then of course the narrow passing looks passive. That criticism is entirely on the players, like I said in one of my earlier posts, I’m shocked when one of Rashford’s corners/free kicks clears the first defender..that is individual incompetence and no manager in the world can make him improve unless he understands his own inadequacies.

Not gonna read back as i'm tooooo friggin depressed at the minute, but no doubt Phil Jones will be getting all the grief, and yet Ander Herrera, the worst midfielder i've seen at United since the early 70's will get a pass, despite the fact the player he was designated to mark(there was no other footballing reason for him to be on the pitch) ran from the half-way line to score.
If you think herrera was the problem today then I doubt you have seen any football in your life, let alone since early 70's.

Sitting behind Jose trying to work out his notes
LVG tactics are not a million miles from Jose's..... recycle the ball always, square it, back pass it. The whole time the opponent sits pretty readjusting it's shape, waiting for a mistake.

There is no one in the team that surprises the opponent, we are so obvious, the pace is only from the left.

Besides Jesse Lingard's run and score awhile back I am hard pressed to remember any of this squad running and dribbling through the opposition and putting it in the back of the net.

Where are the through balls?, one-two's, pass and move? fast football, going up another gear? It is being ingrained into these players to constantly recycle the ball backwards and probe either wing it is so blatantly obvious. Even the square balls are played behind the intended receiver( you notice?) hardly ever for them to run onto.....

To me that's the manager and coaches calling the shots and failing. The players are not without fault either they look perplexed, fed up, proper fed up, like if they go 10 yards out of position on those bloody notebook pages they are in for a hammering. They look shackled.

I thought there was some neat intricate football at times, but without Lukaku in the box, crosses were entirely ineffective.
Young was turning Moses inside out and did well, but there wasn't much else happening.
Valencia seems to have completely forgotten that he used to be a winger, and instead just sees his role as holding the position of the ball, rather than trying to get past his man, or ever get a ball in

Yes Rashford is shite at free kicks, you know it, all the fans watching know it but one man who has the power to stop Rashford taking free kicks is the manager and he hasn't done anything by the looks of it.

If Mourinho had been British, he'd just be like Pulis and Allardyce, yo-yoing between relegation contenders, playing crap football and saving clubs from relegation. All three employ the same tactics too.

Then he shouldn't be at United, we have that tradition and he has decided that Scott McTominay is his shining star, a bit of a plodder who is now eternally grateful to him, rather than anybody who shows a bit of flair, the sort of players United have been built around.

Also could not imagine him giving Kane the time to develop. He would have sold him in a flash to buy a Diego Costa.
TBF even Tottenham would have done the same if Soldado hadn't been so shite when they bought him.

This. It's just another form of defensive cowardice. It's so slow and predictable. We have no idea how to create spaces or fashion out chances without crossing with Young/Valencia and their delivery is abysmal. There are a lot of players not up to standard but the manager is the one who keeps persisting with it and expecting different results. Nothing will change until half these players and this manager are gone.

We’ve been absolutely shocking at the back of of this season, even losing at home to West Brom, so hardly surprising.

You're really not proving anything. If they are trash, why would you call them trash when you might need to rely on them at some point in the future? It's just awful man management. It does not benefit you, the manager, or the club to just make those comments.

What do you get out of making those comments?
Apparently it lights a fire under asses of some players to perform better it seems, according to the Mourinho fanboys at least.

LvG wasn't cowardly, he had the right ideas but his execution was poor, maintaining possession is very important if you want to play attacking football, what LvG lacked was the other components, pressing as a team, his transfers were also absolutely on odds with what kind of football he wanted to play. TBH he was past it and we made the mistake of appointing another past it manager.

I watched Newcastle spank them last week thinking we can not lose to a shite Chelsea team. Hugely disappointing.

We played fine. It was always going to be a tight match with neither wanting to give the other much space. 1 goal was most likely to win it either way. Im just annoyed it wasnt a moment of brilliance but instead a brainless moment from our most brainless defender.

The last corner of the game said it all for me. 1 final chance to send it to extra time and the kick, which for once got over the first defender, gets into a decent area of the box. But there is nobody attacking the ball, nobody clattering the goalie or screening him, nobody giving a fk and wanting to smash it in. Courtois just grabs it easily out of the area despite all the tall united players that might have got there before him. Pretty much epitomized this season and this current team overall: They just don't want it badly enough, they could care less about the uniform and at the end of the day they have no accountability to the fans for that embarrassment of a performance. Right now they're probably not even the least bit bothered while us fans are gutted.

It stinks because we lost against a pretty shit team. If we started the game like the second half we would win that, but we seem incapable of putting the performance for the whole 90 minutes, so there you go.

I wanted Jose at the club, but i can honestly say that if he stays for another season nothing will change.

Same shit football, same shit tactics.

Millions spent on world class players to have them performing like Sunday League players.

The delivery from corners & crosses was abysmal from everyone. How many times did they fail to beat the first man?

I thought Pogba had an alright game along with Matic.

I’d have genuinely rather been played off the park. That Chelsea team were awful and it’s cringeworthy to have lost a final against them without even scoring a goal. Absolutely embarrassing. They were there for the taking.

Mate, I saw Kane at the same age on loan, he wasn't at all impressive.

Good man management is a skill SAF had in shed loads. Turning Andy Cole from an 'ok' player into one of the most feared forwards in Europe is a case in point.

Open your eyes, Jose is not a coach for young players
I agree with this. Rashford still has a lot of time before we can definitively say that he's not fit to play for us as a starter. He does need real direction and strong coaching to sand away his bad tendencies and give him a direction in which to grow. Otherwise, he will be another victim of wasted potential in a few years.

I was satisfied with the desire our players showed in this match even though we could have been more decisive in the final third and i have to give chelseaa credit for holding on to an important lead.
Fair play if you were satisfied, but you cannot expect everyone to be satisfied just because you were. I am not sad that we lost final, just sad that we play dull boring football whole season.

Another anonymous United performance, poor Chelsea side and doesn't say much for us. A dull end to a very forgettable season. I like Rashford but he was out of his depth today, not good enough to lead the line. Many things need to be changed in that United side, full back's were poor. Hazard exploited a bad mistake, not good enough going forward.

Bizarre logic.

Bet Barca/Madrid fans expect more from Dembele/Asensio than they do from Ronaldo/Messi.

Also who the hell watches our own players on youtube?
Bizarre logic you compare players who have been at their clubs for a decade to Alexis who has been here four months.

An extremely poor final presenting the worst aspects of football... playing with fear. Jose is talking tosh, we didn't deserve to win anything today. None of our players really performed, but they are set up and told to play with caution in mind. It's depressing.

Such a ponderous, slow, difficult, tepid build up. Happens most of the time... I have no idea what the attackimg strategy is.

If we don't get a wide player, who doesn't need to cut inside then I have no idea how things may change. This can't go on.

I give him to end of year. We are a poor team to watch. Aimless, like strangers at times.

The first half was probably the worst half of a cup final you'll ever see. It's very concerning how poor we are at doing even the most basic of things.
