Plays much better football. Think he'd be a great match for us. With the budget we have, I think he'd be able to do great. Mourinho has spent a shedload of money and while he may have improved us, it's not been significant.
Simeone would be a better fit ATM; develops youth while winning trophies, like a hybrid of Jose and Poch.

His work with forwards is miraculous, so likely maximising Rashford and Martial, while I’d see the likes of Shaw and Pogba being utilised properly on the left too.

I'm sticking with Jose for next season. Today's result and game was all too much going through the motions of the past few weeks and months.

That said I put it in the context, we could have easily scored a scabby goal or pen and shut up shop and saw the game out 1-0 the same way that Chelsea did. The first goal was always going to be important in today's game. People calling for Jose's head but again, you got to look at the game today from how Chelsea played, Solid back 4/5 then another bank of 4 closing the lines down. Chelsea did a Jose on us and let's not mug ourselves off, Chelsea has some decent players and has probably underperformed as much as City have overperformed. Yes, the responsibility is on us to go and break them down but I genuinely think we are about three players away from breaking these games down. Our fullbacks, you can't argue give 100% but their 100% is just not at the level we need it. Nor is their captain / leader material on the pitch for us at the moment.

The dices were loaded and the narrative was set if you listened to the build-up to the game. Unless Jose won 4-0 today with style and panache then there would be fall out. Jose cannot win here.

If you are clamoring to replace Jose because of his pragmatism(honesty) then who do you go with, Pochetino? A bridesmaid at Spurs so what makes you think he will be the bride at United, bottles it too much and in the games that really really matter, his teams lack discipline. Tuchel ??? He's just gone off to PSG. Ancelloti, two years before he gets itchy feet. We have been there with the 'Chosen One', we have been there with the experienced one with LVG. Simeone ??? High Press aggressive football and for the same reason as Jose, probably not the United way. There really isn't a lot of options where the elite coaches come into it.

Simeone is a great manager, but I find his football horrible, more boring than LVG or Mourinho and that alone would make me against having him as manager.

He should go. It’s not as if his great ideas are obvious, and that it’s obvious too that the players can’t enact his tactics out.

We should have won today, should have been closer to City (there are PL games we could have won clearly) and should have done better in CL.

He should be shown the door. Full marks for trying but he’s just not a top level coach any more.

If he doesn't have us challenging for the title next season(or we somehow do great in the CL), he should be off.

We can't continue to not challenge for the title. It's been 5 years.....

Not the Jose that I thought we’d be getting at all.

He’s like the shit Robbie Williams impersonator that you get at an all inclusive hotel in Majorca.

12-13 - Madrid Trophyless (how the feck did he manage that with that squad)
13-14 - Chelsea Trophyless
15-16 - Chelsea Trophyless and relegation candidates
17-18 - United Trophyless
Depressing. That last season at Real broke him.

Moyes, Van Gaal and now Mourinho have been the same. Dull as dishwater. I'm at the point now where I just want somebody to come in and go a bit gung ho. The United Way - and I laughed at this phrase come to think.
Crazy how consistently poor the standard of football has been for 5 years now. Mourinho won't ever change that and he's not winning enough.

There's so many progressive coaches out there that would be a breath of fresh air at Old Trafford. See no reason to stick with Jose for another 2/3 years or more. It's not like he's putting anything in place for a new coach to build on either.

What are his offensive tactics ? Does he have a clear plan on how to attack? No Pattern since his first season. At least it's better than Van Gaal but that can't be good enough.

Are you watching closely?
Mourinho's first 8 seasons (2002-2010: Porto, Chelsea, Inter):

6 league titles
2 Champions League titles
3 main national cup titles
2 league cup titles
1 UEFA cup title

Mourinho's last 8 seasons (2010-2018: Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United)

2 league titles
0 Champions League titles
1 main national cup title
2 league cup titles
1 Europa League title

A world of difference.

The guy has totally failed to get the best out of the squad of players at his disposal and his signings have been incredibly underwhelming. Despite having spent so much, we've improved in only a couple of positions.

He's relying on a makeshift, ever-changing back four after two years in charge, despite having spent £60m on centre-backs.

He's eulogising about shitehawks like Marouane Fellaini as though he's a talisman figure like Cantona or Ronaldo, and we're playing football no better than we were under LVG. He's just as infuriating to watch too, in my opinion.

I'm sure that someone else could get twice as much out of most of these players, many of whom have proven that they are capable of it, but when they take to the pitch they look like they've never seen a game of football for half the match, never mind played one before.

I wouldn't bank against him turning the results around, but I can't bear his attitude and unwillingness to take responsibility for his own decisions.

I'm not even excited about next season with him. You know city are going to go up a notch higher, Liverpool look exciting. We're going to shit house and play the same football. Old wine, new bottle.

Agreed, replacing him with a serial bottler Poch is a very good idea, why even wait, let's do this today like we did with LVG.
Calling him a bottler is harsh because spurs are never favourites and never won the pl. Itd be quite an achievement if he did. The point is itd be much easier to accept if we'd gone down fighting playing attacking football and then lost to a mistake.

I’ve thoroughly hated some of our games this season, but it’s still 10x better overall than Moyes and LVG.
If Jose went now, with this set of players, a new manager would struggle to make top 4. Fact.

Jose has a great record of winning things - you can't take that away from him.

But, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that football has evolved beyond him and his methods and he can't or won't adapt to it.

Anyone agree? Or disagree?

Barca, real, bayern, psg, city, juventus. 5 national champions plus 3 time CL winner in last 4 years. What they have the same? Quality on every position. Not saying that they have all world class first 11, but every position is covered with class player.
We don't have that. We enter into the season with lots of solids. How many times you read here; " jones/ lingard/young/shaw/.../ is solid player." "He didn't do anything wrong".
It is simply not enough for winning things. Money wins you titles. It is simple. World class players win you titles. Not solid or average. It is nice to have home grown players in team, lots of english players but if you want titles in biggest leagues, in todays football you must give your manager best players. So either our board will give him money like city is giving to guardiola or we must accept being second.

Agree entirely. His outdated style is getting shown up by Guardiola and Klopp.

3rd season will verify that almost completely in a sink or swim manner. He still got some time and budget to turn this around but it'll require only brave decisions.

Yes, those are two startling examples to contrast with. The attacking, particularly, is becoming painful to watch. You can almost see how it's going to develop before it happens - so predictable and therefore must be to the opposition as well. It's not as if these players are crap either.

Yep it's not really being realized atm but he's stopped winning league titles, think he's won it once since 2011.

Seems to be morphing a bit into Wenger funnilly enough. Has his way of playing, won't really change it, even starts blaming the opposition for restricting their game.

Still can be effective in cup competitions with that one off duel but no so much over a 38 game league season perhaps.

Spent an absolute fortune during the latter years too. Not like his 'backing' dramatically changed.

I have been bashing Jose quite a bit actually. But comparing him with 15/16 LvG team is not correct.
The only difference between Jose and van gaal is we're a couple places higher in the league. The football is just as unbearable to watch.

City's team is not as good as Bayern's, Real's, Barcelona's and arguably PSG's either.

Their manager elevates their team.

Yes, we saw how guardiola elevated them last year ( before he spent 200 mil only on defenders, plus midfielder plus goalkeeper)

That poster was right though. Saying that without Mourinho our team/squad(second most expensive in the league after City) wouldn't make it into the top is as ridiculous as it gets. Top 4 is the bare minimum and what's expected given our spending which is why LvG got sacked despite winning a trophy and finishing 5th on joint point with the 4th team(City).

Let's not also forgot to mention that Jose has spent 300 millions yet I see posters rushing here quickly saying that City have out spend us thus we should accept their dominance over us(19 points off) while the same people conviniently forget to meniton that We've spent far more than Spurs or Liverpool but having a worse season the latter. Suddenly talks of spending quiet down, they're only relevant when City are brought into the argument
