I'd love to know what our routine is prior to the kick off. The second half today was actually pretty decent, as is most of our play whenever we are behind in a match. I struggle to understand why we can't start a match in a similar fashion.

First United game that I haven’t watched the entirety of since we lost to West Ham 4-0. Travelling got in the way and only had a small window of Internet usage to watch a 40min highlight package.

Too predictable we’d blank without Rom. Had Chelsea down to win 1-0, despite their bad form as we’re too often like this regardless of quality of oppostion, especially away. We leak a goal and then are too easy to defend against. No width. Valencia is a garbage right back with the ball. Sanchez has made our squad more unbalanced than ever. Who’d have thought we bought him just to strengthen the inside left? Christ, get us a Director of Football.

Glad this season is over. No chance of even matching this season’s points haul without a big change in performance and/or personnel. We’ve been very lucky to end up where we have done, as I believe we were better last year with some piss poor finishing and only a De Gea annus mirabilis has papered over the structural cracks this season.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Shite

Crap Chelsea team who were there for the taking.

One moment of poor/awful defending gives them a goal and we spend 40 minutes arsing about then chuck some subs on too late

Chelsea were shit but they won.... we were not much better but lost so can't blame Chelsea for killing game - totally blame Jose for formation/tactics, Jose for late/wrong subs and players for a shocking attitude.

I can take losing (I grew up in a time when we didn't win much) but can't take lame arsed losing.

Don't care if Jose stays (which he will) or not. We still need a few players but more importantly, we need players to change attitude or leave. We've had great teams with great players but we've also had 7/10 players with great attitude.... today was shite.

Mate, I saw Kane at the same age on loan, he wasn't at all impressive.

Good man management is a skill SAF had in shed loads. Turning Andy Cole from an 'ok' player into one of the most feared forwards in Europe is a case in point.

Open your eyes, Jose is not a coach for young players
We haven’t got the time to wait for him
No premiership next year and Jose is gone and we start all over again

Two very defensive set ups from two very defensive minded coaches. Was never going to be an end to end thrill fest and scoring the first goal was vital. We’re not much fun to watch and so therefore when we lose, people go overboard with their criticism.

However, had I travelled the 8 hour return journey to Wembley and paid £200 plus to be there I’d probably be joining in too.

You're really not proving anything. If they are trash, why would you call them trash when you might need to rely on them at some point in the future? It's just awful man management. It does not benefit you, the manager, or the club to just make those comments.

What do you get out of making those comments?
A kick on the backside....

Just watched the match on dvr. I swear we must hold the record for the most cup final defeats. I'm pissed off. And we played as well as them if not better, but for one soft penalty. Hazard is a diving little twat, he was doing it the whole game. Did I mention I pissed off?
Not looking forward to next season.

Sitting behind Jose trying to work out his notes
BUY A LEFT WINGER. BUY A RIGHT WINGER. Play some 4-4-2 ffs, the old way. With 2 real wingers we could play lots of formations but I think we have the team England curse.
Doomed to defend with this squad.

442 is best for us.

City did so well because of Sane and Sterling playing wide forward/winger roles.

I watch the kids play football on Sundays, coached well they win most games 10 nil with proper wingers.

Laugh all you want we need two banks of four and two forwards pulling the defence around. Keep the ball far away from most of their players, ie the wings!

What's the point of having an extra guy up front if you cannot get from defence to midfield to up top?

Watch this space

Almost identical to the 2007 final, pretty poor spectacle from both teams.

But Chelsea defended well, but other than the penalty no one really came close to scoring really.

its very hard to watch such games !! where both sides dont want to take any risks. Having said that, we played some good football in parts. But have no technical players in key positions. Players who have a plan B or can react technically with some innovative passes, touches. Young and Valencia, together with Mike Smalling should not be United Players. Lingard was marked out of the game from first second. Rashford needs to be a back up currently. He's not ready for first team spot against defensively good teams. He has not improved on any aspects this year. Before I am told that he needs match experience, he can gain certain things in training too. He doesnt need to wait for match experience to develop them. I dont see that is happening. Coaches play a certain part but its individual responsibility if there's any ambition. Not questioning his mentality yet. But stating that he needs to work more. I have no opinion on Jones's penalty.

Pat Nevin: Pogba should have done better (with his chance) Rashford was a big spooked, cause he was up against Courtois.

The double standard..

Beaten at his own game. Conte parked the bus proper!

So that's what it's like to play against us.

What's up with everybody? We played much better in the second half today than we did in our wins against Arsenal and Spurs...

This is why winning the league is so much more impressive than a cup (UCL aside). Even if you dominate in a knockout game, sometimes it's just not your day.

Deserved.

We need a new manager.
In a nutshell .

The league points is funnily enough papering the cracks .

Awful football, very lucky with numerous games, without David de gea we would be lucky to be in the top 4.

Time for a change.

For how long have they owned us now? It must be about fifteen years. I can't even remember the last time we won at Stamford Bridge. It's totally fecking humiliating. Pissed out of my head and totally pissed off.

Not a Mourinho fan but he escapes criticism here. Thought we played very well. Very harsh defeat.
Played well?

Did you see the first half?

It's also vs a Chelsea team that finished 5th and just got walloped by Newcastle.

The second half we mustered 2 proper chances. Rashford and pogbas .

They also missed another one with alonso.

Overall a deserved loss and another uninspiring performance.

We wont start 'all over again'. Did city start all over again when they hired pep? Same with liverpool. Saying that would be a direct criticism on jose's signings and team building. We will be fine unless he gets rid of all our younger players this summer, leaving us with a bunch of aging overpaid vets.

Our season summed up in a nutshell

Worryingly I’m not even bothered
My brother kept asking me why i don't seem bothered about losing in a cup final? He doesn't watch much football but he knows how strongly i feel about United.

I replied to him saying that i expected this and i have become used to it. :(

Jose being jose. Not saying it's good or bad, just saying I'm bored to tears and Chelsea fans themselves would not be surprised.

I get people who would take boring 1-0s every week and trophies, I get those who think we've always played swashbuckling football. What I don't get is why we have to be so dire whilst not winning anything. It's the worst of both worlds.

But meh, I'm sure I'm wrong and always have been about Jose and he just needs more time.

I've lost any faith it'll be much better next season. I was hoping that someone would show something convincing among Lingard, Martial, Rashford, or Pogba that they'd be able to take a step but no. I've been done with Mourinho for most of this season and am not remotely looking forward to anything next season.

Rashford has almost not technical ability at all it seems. Running around hard can only get you so far.

I don't even blame Jones personally. I blame Jose and the players as an entity. Just looks like a squad with no identity or desire at all and that's down to the manager.

Where the grass is greener.
We could have played for another 90 and wouldn’t have scored. It was another one of those days, but we have far too many of them, because the team is fundamentally tactically flawed. If it doesn’t get fixed in the summer, it’ll be the same next season. We never look to exploit teams, we just try the same tedious attacking attempts.

Also hopefully this is the game where the penny drops for everyone how desperately we need rid of Valencia.

Disappointed, as no doubt most on here are.

Really thought we'd win this by 2 goals and the most cringeworthy thing I've seen today, apart from that preacher at the Royal wedding, is the score which reads 0 next to Man Utd. How the feck we haven't got enough about us to score a single goal in a cup final is a disgrace.

Too many overpaid 'superstars' in this shite team. How I wish for a Roy Keane type character to knock some reality into this sorry excuse of a team. I don't even blame Mourinho, it's the players who are letting him down!

This game was finished when Chelsea scored. I completely relaxed after that.
Reading all the comments on here, I’m really depressed as a United fan, that there’s some kind of discussion about whether Valencia is good/finished/winger/full back etc.
What the hell has happened to us?

Last thoughts before I go to bed:-

Was listening to GMR just after the match and it was Jimmy Wagg and Ben Thornley laughing and joking “it was a good game/United will learn from this/next season things will be ok........” These are things I don’t want to hear, just sod off.

Chelsea should have had a clear penalty for handball. If that had been the other way, we would all have been screaming.

And finally, why was everyone so certain we were going to win? Our record against Chelsea has always been poor.

Goodnight.

I have not posted much here. The negativity is immense. I do understand some of it, things are not great but ALOT of it is unnecessary.

I feel like we were the better team for large periods of the game. Maybe even in the first half without doing much...both teams were poor. Second half, defintely. If Jones wasnt such a donkey, the game would be completely different in my opinon. It gave them the cushion to sit back and they are better at that than we are at breaking down teams that do it. On another day Sanchez may of not drifted offside. Im not saying we deserved to win, football is about more than which team has the most possesion or poses more of a threat. Chelsea fans ive spoke to agree with my outlook on the game. We need to work on being able to break down teams that sitback. I also feel like Jose is right about having a physical presence. Not because hoofball is the nee united way...but because a physical presence gives a comfortable chelsea bavk four something new to consider and can cause chaos that allows others room to work.

not good enough but im just not in as gloomy a mindstate as alot of you are, i suppose.

This is Mourinho in a nutshell. We come up against a team who has played like shit all season, we have better players in most positions... yet he sets up to nullify them instead of coming with a game plan of how to create chances and win the game yourself. Can't wait til he's out of the club.
What game are you watching? We are attacking all day. Chelsea plays mourinho football exactly to the tee. And guess who win?

Attacking? We hadn't a clue how to attack for most of the game.
Tried hard and had loads of possession but were totally impotent for the most part.

Chelsea let us keep possession because they knew we’d do nothing with it.

Had poor luck today. Any other day we'd be waking up happy from the win. We severely missed Lukaku's presence at top

First 20 minutes we showed very, very little attacking intent. Basically up until the first goal we created nothing, were playing very slowly on the ball and just giving it away sloppily because the tactic was to try and kill any momentum from a potential fast start. Only thing that served to do was give them confidence. Second half yeah we attacked, because we had no choice. First half after the goal was pointless possession with barely anything in the actual box. Before the goal was just nothing.

Not exactly surprising given that out of our last 3 premier league games against Brighton, West Ham and Watford, we could only muster 1 goal total. So it's no surprise that we didn't score. Mourinho is useless at coaching an attack.
