I’d honestly accept zero new signings if I was confident we had a manager capable and willing to get the very best out of what we have. I don’t think Mourinho is that manager but, depressingly, he’s going nowhere and I’m not even sure there’s an obvious alternative. So I’m fully expecting a re-run of this season, no matter how many new players we sign. Generally effective but ultimately joyless football with Mourinho moaning and groaning his way through the season, looking to blame anyone but himself for any adversity.
That's fair enough though we of course disagree. I don't defend everything he does, what he says, how he reacts etc. But I honestly think he's the best option for us at the moment, continue with the rebuild and back him in the summer. I agree with what he had to say about our history, ambition and that the current reality of our squad just isn't anywhere near to that (though I don't agree with going public with that, even if it's not about ego but to leverage the board..).
I guess a lot of posters see that differently. To me it's obvious our squad, our first XI, is not anywhere near the top level. There are so many issues, and not just in terms of getting players in their correct positions, but not least in terms of mentality.
The thought of Jose being at the helm next season depresses many of the posters on here, but honestly, that's how I'd feel if we'd get a new manager and all the players who have consistently failed under 2 or 3 managers would yet again get a chance to fail.
I look at top clubs and quite obviously, their players are better, in terms of quality, mentality...name it. I do agree though with the calls for a DoF to try to find some cohesion in our short-term and long-term planning.
