His early days with us were so good, I thought we were sorted for the right back position... Everyone was praising him, He was really solid in defence. It's hard to judge football players really.

I'll be happy to see him go. He showed early on that he was good enough, but that ended pretty quickly. He's lingered like bad company ever since.

What will be frustrating is seeing him routinely show the sort of form he so rarely showed here. I think he needs to go--no questioning that. How we couldn't coax the best of a player that started as a defender in the Italian national team is beyond me.
Ikr, and mou supposed to be a good defensive coach. There is something about him, even in the pitch.. Its like he set out to lose his man even before he enter the pitch. Tell me he is gone.

I find it's because he's SO SLOW to get out to the wide man. Whenever he is tucked inside and the ball is switched over his head he practically walks out to meet them.

By that point they've either taken it down and are running at him, or has slinged in a cross with no pressure. The best fullbacks are sprinting out to their man to put them off before they've even taken it down.

Well Mourinho is very good with defenders most if not all of our other defenders have played well under him. So if he couldn't get many performances out of Darmian then it points to a problem with the player himself and Van Gaal didn't get any decent form out of him either. Maybe he has severe home sickness, just isn't suited to the team/league, attitude problems, laziness or a combination of any of those factors.

That was one game where he did a man marking job. Buttner is comfortably worse than Darmian
Not based on their respective times at United he isn't. Defensively theres not much in it between them both largely awful, Butter is decent going forward or at least he made an effort to get up the pitch. Based on that alone he's the better United player.

Agreed his first month or so was great, he was bombing up and down the right wing, defending well and attacking well.

I too thought we were sorted in that position. Just a shame that he got LVG’d.

Terrible footballer who was never good enough to play for Manchester United.

His weakest ability is his short passing game.

His first month is massively overrated. He was average in a strong backline and high performing side. He's just a bit shit.
Yeah his fabled first month was more like 4-5 games where he was decent. He was solid enough defensively don't remember much attacking output even back then. After that it all went down hill sharply.

Exactly, he definitely wasn't bombing up and down. The whole team had a few really good performances and he was just a part of it. Not an important part or a stand out. He still looked the worst of the back four. Being frank they were average performances you'd expect from just about anyone slotting into a good performing team.

He seemed like a solid defender, more or less, which was pretty much all anyone would ask for at that point. How he went from that to the player he is when he gets a rare outing these days is a mystery. I'm sure he'll be a decent defender to Juve or wherever he goes, but it's clear as daylight that he's being moved on at least a season too late.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Can we get Sandro in return? Darmain + £30m?
I would hope that Darmian could be used to give us an advantage for signing Sandro or even Dybala, that would make perfect sense to me, and be great business.

That would be even better than the Mkhi-Sanchez swap deal.

So how much are we getting for him? Knowing Juve it will be the bare minimum.

Just glad to get rid really, like a deer in the headlights this guy.

Shame he couldn't replicate his performances for Italy for us. Remember watching him at Euro 16 wondering who this player was.

Knowing Juventus, they'll offer £15.00 and free tickets to one of their games.

We should be looking at £15m for him. Italian international and in demand back in Serie A.

I don't even think it was that long. I could be wrong, but I've always remembered it as only his first 2 or 3 matches. He was very good during those couple of matches though.

I remember it being about the first 10 or so matches. Then again, that was in van Gaal's system. Darmian paled in comparison to a then very bright Shaw going forward. In defense Darmian looked very good at reading the game. He was always where he needed to be to prevent his own trouble and showed a real knack at bailing others out. He didn't look like a world beater or even someone that couldn't readily be replaced with a better player, but he looked like a good find that brought something to the team as a starter...and then he tailed off into a shell of what we saw. Maybe he just flattered to deceive early on, but he hasn't been that player very much at all since.

I swear someone says that after the sale of every single player on here.
True. I remember the chorus of people saying that when Schneiderlin was sold on comes to mind. For me, I especially see this in Darmian. He was a starting defender for the Italian national team. Granted they were in a bit of an ebb, but you don't expect someone with that pedigree and that sort of form to wane so quickly when the come here. I can see him getting back toward that.

He was excellent defensively for the first month or so. Since then his defense has blown hot and cold while going forward he's been lackluster. We need our fullbacks to provide width and he can't do that. Maybe he goes to Juve and does better, I suppose he can't do much worse. We need better either way.

Why would anyone care if he would be good enough for Juventus? He's been atrocious for us, can't wait to see him gone.

Yep. That’s the crux of it right there.

This is like a new signing for us. Good bye, won't miss him and his facial hair at all.

This is beautiful because it makes absolutely no sense. No it's not like a new signing, it's like the sale of a player that barely played in the last two years.

No, he was still getting some games here and there when we wanted to rest Valencia or Young when we should have giving them to some one young that can develop at least. Get rid of those pointless squad players.

And he did nothing wrong, on the rare occasion where he played. You would think that he was hurting the team.

€12m apparently. Not a great price for us in the current market, but I guess we can't expect much more for someone who hardly plays.
To be fair he hardly plays because he's an awful fullback. Awful players naturally don't command high fees, especially one entering the final year of their contract.

I'm delighted it's looking like we are finally selling him. Would be great if it was for a high fee but at least we're getting something for him, recouping most of the fee we paid for him in fact. If only we could also recoup the wages he's been paid the last 3 years while impersonating a fullback.

Lucky to be getting a fee to be fair.

Seems like unless a player is going for £20m+, you might as well just get them off the wage bill for nothing (i.e. Rooney).

I didn't say that. I said he was getting games he didn't deserve to get. If you're resting the main players, better to give chances for some young players instead of such a terrible-already-developed-player.

He'll be a good player for them. He knows how to defend. He just can't figure out getting forward too when he plays for us.
