The club have now confirmed he's signed a new two year deal with the option for a third.

Yess! Great news that. I believe in him. Natural replacement for De Gea down the line

Losing to Comeback Winning!
"my club" and "Soon On! Top". Nice.

Just knew that KIN Partners is his agents.

When was the last time academy GK player become the first choice 1st team GK?
Hoping he will break through that far. Would be fun, but we'll see.

He'll likely go out on loan again next season, but at a higher league than the last.

I do find it odd that he's signed a new contract. He must have ambition to be a starter one day, but with De Gea retaliating his commitment to us, with Madrid clearly on the prowl for another goalkeeper and with Romero signed up till 2022 - it's an odd extension.

I'm happy, but just doesn't seem to add up.
De Gea could in reality be our number 1 for another 10 years if he follows the trend of GOAT keepers.

Ideally Dave will stick around for two years more, by which time Dean will be ready and Dave is a record-breaking transfer to the tune of a couple of hundred million

Great news.

Send him on loan to a good Championship team or even a PL team (probably some newly promoted team) and then bring him at No 2 in place of Romero.

I think it makes sense, we are his club and there is always a chance DDG will leave. He's guaranteed to get a good loan and develop well. I am sure he's allowed to leave if he decides for a permanent move.

BTW how high do you rate him? Better than Johnstone at his age? Could he be a top club goalie? Haven't seen him since academy days, probably better then Pereira

A lot can happen i football. He knows it is up to himself and will get a lot of games on loan. If he impresses he knows Manchester United might have a spot for him sooner or later. Doesn't need to be 10 years, cut that in half and De Gea leaves a legend at 32 for a pile of cash while Henderson is 26 and thriving for a top 10 side. People have been on loan for about 5 years before haven't they?

Who the hell is going to pay good money for Dean Henderson. Who the hell is Dean Henderson anyway
If he reaches his potential, a lot of teams will. It's telling that only a month ago, the likes of Arsenal and Spurs were linked with trying to take him for free.

This guy has great potential as a 'keeper, he'll end up better than Butland & Pickford.

Non event. never going to be a first team player at Utd so what's the point
Yeah, it's almost like having 3 goalkeepers is important at a top club. Plus Romero is good but won't be here forever.

What happened to Shrewsbury in the end, thought they were on track for promotion, did they make it?

So we should just get rid of all players who are not going to be first team players? Henderson might not be United's starting goalkeeper in the future because we have De Gea but the lad is talented as feck and could go for big money in a few years.

Ran out of steam towards end of the season, played 60+ games I think and didn't have the squad to cope. They didn't concede many thiugh and Henderson was a big part of that.

They had a few injuries in key areas, mainly up front.

The main problem was that Blackburn and Wigan just kept winning and winning though. By the end of the season those two clubs were far beyond anything in league one.

They also had a good run in the auto checkatrade trophy or whatever it’s called and got to Wembley - mixed blessing,
It meant they played an utterly insane number of games over the season. So by the end everyone was either injured or knackered.

Henderson was excellent throughout and is likely to be a premier league keeper. Arsenal were tracking him I believe and getting him to sign a new deal really is excellent news, nobody really knows what’s gonna happen with De Gea so @red4ever 79 ’s comment really is on another level of stupidity, if he’s not trolling.

Think he will have a Tom Heaton type career brilliant middle table premiership keeper. Long term De Gea replacement not so sure

As long as he can play, it is very important for us to have a buy-back clause and first-refusal clause if he wants a permanent move. In the future when De Gea retire or get a big contract short term at other clubs, hopefully, Dean Henderson could become top players that need a move to the big club so he can be considered as world class goalkeepers so we can get him back rather cheaper than paying out for 80m+ goalkeepers world class.

Who does everyone have higher hopes for Henderson or J. Pereira?
I'd say Dean Henderson, English and the youth academy product since he was a kid, he would appeal more valuable rather than Pereira who just came to us as 16 years old, from different countries.

Good interview indeed!

I agree with him regarding development. Once they're past 18-19, U-23 won't do much for their development.
They need competitive football, just training with the first team is not good enough either.
Think both Henderson and Peirera did just the right thing, pushing hard for loan deals.

Wow that's one of the most honest interviews I've seen from a footballer, fair play to him. Not a big fan of his, reminds me of Hart, looks like he's easily distracted. I'm not really a fan of Pereira neither, just seems very over confident and looks rather average.

Have you watched him play much or just a feeling you get? I ask because you said "looks like..."

I've seen him play half a dozen times and he screams goalkeeper to me, but funnily enough I can see why you'd think that. Sometimes he comes as a bit overconfident.

Almost impossible to say if he'll have a career at United, but I'd put money on him having a very good professional career at a good level.

I saw about half the matches he played in for Shrewsbury last season and a few for Sheffield United this season. I'm more confident about him having a good career than Pereira, don't think it'll be with us though.

That's fair. You're definitely more qualified than me to make that judgement then.

I thought his comments were interesting. I'm astonished that United keep such a large squad at U23 level rather than sending players aged 19 and 20 out on loan. Our whole approach to development between 18 and 22 seems very strange to me. Dean Henderson made 3 starts for our U23 team. He was an unused sub for 14 games. Some of the time he watched while Sam Johnstone played, the rest while Joel Pereira started.

In all the time I've been following United, the only Keeper to come through the youth team system to become first choice is Gary Walsh, and even he didn't last long as our starting keeper. I think he made 50 League starts. So, the chances of Dean Henderson or Joel Pereira ever becoming United's first choice keeper are very slim indeed. Henderson would need to be playing top tier football in the near future, ideally Premier League but if not then La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga just to be a candidate should a vacancy arise here.

With DDG staying with us for years to come, Joel and Henderson will have to move on...sad really.
