He was disappointed to be taken off, especially with him being on his hat trick, but you could see that he was knackered.

Felt he was a lot better in the second half. Got into better areas, tried to beat his man and scored two very good goals.

That should hopefully do his confidence a world of good.

Yeah, the debate should be over now. He's a starter, pure and simple.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Thought he was rubbish in the first half but that second half was much improved and is another good performance overall in the bank along with Newcastle.

Felt the big change came with us being more aggressive as a team and winning the ball back to catch Chelsea on the fly. We looked superb on the counter in the second half and our attack actually looked dangerous every time we went forward, which I didn't think I'd say any time soon.

I think for Martial to take the next step he needs to figure out a way of being affective against an organised defence, but that change needs to come as a team too. Too many times he stands the defender up and turns back and passes backwards. I think he needs to try different things, perhaps a first touch to keep the ball moving. Gary Neville was spot on when he did that our attackers could learn a lot from Hazard, the way he never lets the ball stop still, constantly moving with it and twisting to change direction. It's this movement that unsettled our defence, because without Hazard I feel that Chelsea would be no better than us.

Anyway, great finishes today and hopefully he can continue this into the Juve game. If he does then I think he'll be back up and running then.

Moments player but wish Mourinho would play him higher up the pitch and closer to the goal to get more of those moments. Hugging the touchline and expecting him to beat 2/3 men doesn't maximise his talent.

Great game. He seems to be refocused, and that embrace with Jose when he came off was very encouraging.

We should go for Perisic in January so we get to watch another 6 month episode of Martial going from frozen out of the team to back into the the XI. You can't freeze him for long because of his attacking production

Appropriate time to say those who have repeatedly critisized him know feck all about football.
He has deserved the criticism, but that in no way detracts from how well he's been playing lately. Long may it continue.

Clinical performance and looking as though he’s getting back into the form we know he can perform at. Club really do need to sort out his contract issue...

10 months after he was benched looks like he's *finally* back.
I just hope Jose doesn't cut him out at the first sign of trouble like he did in Jan/Feb last year.

He is the best forward at the club and needs to be given a run of games now. He is a joy to watch when he is dribbling with the ball and probably our only player along with Pogba who can make something happen out of nothing.

Considering his criticism is often agenda driven I'm certain he hasn't deserved all of it. Granted his hardcore fans can be annoying but you have Rashford and Jose fanatics letting us know everytime he misplaces a pass and blaming him during poor team-wide performances. Not sure when it became normal to have people camped in the threads of young players waiting to trash them but the Rashford, Shaw and Martial threads have at times been bloody over the past year. Not all criticisms are OTT though

I just don't get this whole agenda thing. Unless you're an agent who stands to benefit from player x starting over player y, or you happen to be of a certainly nationality, which either leads to unconditional love or hate of a player, why would anyone have any agenda other than wanting to see United win?

I have said this since the goal against Newcastle United, he can be the key for Mourinho to go forward. He's clinical, shouldn't be doing too much defensive work, if he can do less defensive work and focus more in the offensive side, Mourinho can get the best out of him. Well done today.

Play him through the middle for a spell? He’s got an eye for goal, pace and skill. Could be quite effective as a central striker drifting across the frontline.

He’s not a target man like Lukaku though so doubt Mourinho would go for this option. Not his style.

Not even he can be that stupid. martial has turned up for him in two pressure games.
Perhaps he needs to consider that 'running around' isn't the only metric for playing for one's manager. We've watched Sanchez run around for 6 months and he might as well be trying to get Jose fired with some of those performances

Play martial in consistent games and he performs. Imagine if we built the team around him. Him knowing that even if he messes up a pass or dribble it won't matter because he would play regardless. Imagine if he had the backing lukaku has. Think of the player he would be.

Target man is not really Lukaku’s style either. Also when Martial first came in as a striker I remember his hold up play being pretty decent.

@GifLord do you have a gif of Martial turning the Chelsea players then stopping running? Looked like cramp or something. I believe this is why he was taken off, to make sure he's fit for midweek, but people keep using it as a stick to beat Jose with.

It will be nice to be able to move on from the issues that have surrounded him since Jose arrived and hopefully we can see him reach his potential. Whilst I've been critical of him at times recently it's only because I feel he's capable of so much more.
I think that's why Jose has been critical though.
I genuinely think Shaw and Martial will be better off because of it. We're already seeing it from Shaw. He's instilling not resting on your laurels with players that can make a difference when they don't.
I'm critical of Jose but think he's done alright here personally.

Perfect end to an annoying day loosing in the last minute. Our most prolific player in front of goal.. Glad he will sign a new deal

When was it VeevaVee? Just after he turned like 3 of them and had that miscontrol? Or some other time?

The whole thing of him coming off was quite funny, he had the thunderous Martial face as Jose explained it to him then Jose points to something and they have a laugh. Personally I would say it’s protecting him for Juve myself, he surely has to play.

Slightly off topic but on talent within this squad surely his only real competition is Pogba? Was quite intresting listening to Souness and Redknapp talking about him, they were pretty much spot on.

He used to be so strong with his back to goal, maybe a run of games through the middle would help

Just play him up top, whether centrally or wide left. He's wasted tracking back and one of the players I trust when in front of goal.

Productive yet again. It's foolish to think we should get rid just because he's a young lad who's struggled with form. Long may this run of form - and run of games - continue.

No, but today we essentially played two up front. I would have liked to seen him play off Lukaku today instad of Mata. They both had good games today but I would have personally switched positions on them from the start.
