And that's why Deschamps will most likely never select him.
In the Press Gossip thread he has said something about Laporte being a bit of a loner and that is why he didn't pick him. Strange one that. Also personally I think Remi is absolutely gash.

It's 4 years away but France are already nailed on favorites on paper for the next world cup.

Delighted for Tony, fully deserved.

Initially Laporte wasn't selected because he wasn't a 4th defender and he was the U21 captain, he isn't really the type of player that contributes to the general atmosphere. Then in 2016 he flirted with the Spanish federation and thought about taking the spanish nationality, it's kind of unfortunate for him because he allegedly the one Deschamps wanted to replace Koscielny and Varane's injury would have seen him go to the Euro, Umtiti was picked instead and he is now the long term starter alongside Varane.

I want to see Martial and Fekir together in attack at some point please.

You can't predict who will win a short term competition in 4 years. Even less saying only 1 team can win. Sure they will have multiple talent to select. Winning is another matter.

Ah but you see my disclaimer in the form of: ''on paper''

Rami is a great dressing room presence and their good-luck charm. He's also not a bad player

The only blacklisted players are Rabiot, Benzema and Valbuena.

I think Deschamps views Sakho and Rami as nice guys who would be delighted to be on the bench.

Also Mamadou Sakho has saved the career of Deschamps by scoring 2 goals against Ukraine and enables France to be part of the WC in 2014

Regarding Laporte, not impossible Deschamps has not liked his blackmail some years ago 'If you don't pick me, I will play for Spain'

Disappointed in that list for central defense. Laporte, Lenglet and Diallo should have been called up with all the defenders who are injured. Rami gracefully retired internationally after the WC, I guess so that Deschamps wouldnt have to set him aside and avoid a controversy, so the fact that he didnt grab that opportunity to try one of the many great young centerbacks that we have is disappointing to say the least. And Lacazette...

The strength in depth they have is insane. Cant remember a nation ever having that wealth of talent all come along at the same time

didnt Lucas Hernandez (as well as his brother) do the same thing?

Lucas didn't, Théo did worse and if I'm not mistaken he hasn't been selected by the youth teams since he went awol on one selection after playing for France since the U16. Now their situation is different, they are born in France but almost exclusively lived in Spain because their father was playing there and both parents have the spanish nationality. In their case, we are talking about genuine dual nationality.

Deschamps does really hate Lacazette, doesn't he?
Not really. Giroud is one of his favourites and will probably always be selected as long as he's available but Lacazette hasn't done enough to displace any of the other forwards in the team.

Laporte, on the other hand...

I was pretty sure that Lucas did the same thing a few years ago but I'll take your word on it since I'm not 100% sure. But yes their case is different in case of nationatily.
Either way, I usually agree with Deschamps' principles and actually am happy that he is enforcing those, but in Laporte's case I think he's being a little too tough.

I do think that Laporte should be selected even if it's just to allow him to get comfortable within the group. As for Lucas, it was just Marca making a meal out of a one minute interview with TVE, personally I see Lucas like Higuain or Trezeguet they had a legitimate reason to choose between two national teams, while Laporte felt like Diego Costa.

Why is Rabiot blacklisted?

France portugal spain and even the dutch made the best out of their golden generation.

Its a shame england has nothing to show for theirs, not even a semifinal.

France would go on to win 1 more trophy at this rate, nobody comes close with them with germany on the wane and crotia without modrid.

2002 and 2006 were our best chances. Our "Golden Generation" was good, but nowhere near as good as the current France squad or Spain 2008-12. We weren't a better team / squad than Brazil in 2002 or Portugal in 2006. Whilst our media would say we under performed I don't think that is really true. We came up against very good opposition and went out. The England 2018 team would have got comfortably beaten by either of those opponents imo. Just got a lucky draw and also luck on penalties.

The current France squad must have the most depth of pretty much any team in the history of International football. They should be big favourites for the Euros in 2020.

More than Spain 2010?

True that, but Fekir deserves to get called ahead of him based on the current form?

Laca hasn't done enough :D

Just look at the team and who is missing.
It's not about Club Performances - Deschamps has his favourites and the results are giving him right to be fair, because the Squad is still amazing and he has so many options.

More than Spain 2010?

Spain 2010 had a better first team, partly because the core of the team all played for Barcelona. France now have more depth though, they can leave out Benzema, Laporte, Rabiot for non football reasons and it doesn't matter much. Umtiti, L Hernandez, Lemar are injured, doesn't affect them.

They've got loads of young guys like Guendouzi, Coman, Theo Hernandez who are quality and can't even get near the team. They didn't even need a quality forward like Martial to win the world cup. The only weakness in their depth is at GK, although I suspect Areloa will be no 1 after Lloris, none of the GK are at the absolute top level. Areloa can still improve though he's only 25 and he has the potential to get there.

You can have a golden generation but it makes no difference if your golden generation isn't the best team at he moment. Even with our golden generation, France and Brazil...even Argentina had better squads. You can add Italy to the list.
Look at Belgium for example.

They can put out an entire 11, who didn't make the sqaud and it would still be one for the best teams in the world.

I don't remember that piece but if it's true, he deserves to not play. He can go f*** himself, just because you had the possibility to play for Spain should not allow you to say such things.
I am delighted with that France team, I just hope we replace the striker with Martial :). Imagine Dembele, Martial and Mbappe in that team.
