Why does he do that? Set up to do nothing and our crap defence still conceeds 3. Not having Pogba was a huge miss. But that wasnt enjoyable with the quality we have.

After that fluky win against Juve, that got painted by some people as a Mourinho masterclass and made them change their mind saying he has turned the corner, hope this is a reminder of our true level, after 3 seasons of Mourinho football. And for those saying that we played against the best team of the PL, we've been this toothless against lesser opposition and relied on the genius of Pogba and Martial to get us out of troubles.

Said before the game that midfield wasn't a good idea, and I'm just a fan.

Top 4 still very doable. Not sure how the season is over. A very weird post.
Is the goal top 4 or is the goal to compete for a title? Season is, in reality, already over if the expectation was some sort of title challenge.

The only silver lining of this match is that the Mourinho IN reds cannot pick out anything positive after this game.

12 games in and -1 GD:lol:. Sarri into his first season with Chelsea and already playing football light years ahead of a Mourinho side that's been 3 years in building. No point in watching United dying a slow painful death with an absolute coward like Mourinho as our manager.

Time to stay away from football for a while.

We should have used this season to bed in a new manager and let Jose go. Ok, so we wouldn't win or maybe make top four, but why wait to start everything the beginning of next season? Let's start preparing now.

It's been the same for all his tenure, we are severely under coached. For the money that he gets, that is criminal.

Hash to judge him on this result. We've done good considering the tough set of fixtures starting from Chelsea away. I still believe he could get us top 4 and then part ways.
Some sense at last. Glad this match is over and we can move on. This was the worst possible fixture to go into after that result vs Juve, also missing our best outfield player. Not sure what people were expecting here?

Pretty much. The difference between the jobs done by Jose and Pep is insane.
Yeah one can buy many players as he wants but the other has to play average players which are still here since SAF!!!

The thing is, he's on a good run of PL results...

Bournemouth - Win
Everton -Win
Chelsea - draw
Newcastle - Win

Add into that a massive win away at Juventus, and the fact that he's now got Martial in fine form and realistically - he simply isn't gonna be sacked after an away defeat at the PL golden-boys Citeh.

For me, the next 5 games are where I'll be looking to see where this United side is going.
Exactly. Away to Juventus and away to City was always going to be difficult bridge t cross. Considering all things, we've done well since newcastle.

In theory but the reality is we have a - 1 GD. Just think about it.
I don't give two fecks about our goal difference. I care about points and whether it's salvageable in the stage of the season we're in.

We have easier fixtures in Europe with some good games at OT coming up particularly during Christmas.. Palace, Huddersfield, Cardiff, Southampton, etc.

Spurs will need to face the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea sandwiched between Inter Milan. Arsenal will come to Old Trafford (and Spurs obviously). There is a lot that can happen between now and the end of the year.

I think our only difficult matches on paper are Arsenal (at OT) and Liverpool until the end of the year. We can crack on some form now, lets not forget we had a good run of results up to today. I'm not going to start complaining that we lost to a team that's arguably the best in Europe right now when we were missing about £160m of our talent before a ball was kicked.

Those people have to be trolling. Nobody can have watched Juventus waste all those good chances and assume he planned for that.

*shakes head* I can't. I can't. I just can't. How do you people make decisions in real life :wenger:

For those of you who still can't decide whether Mourinho is the one for this club or not. For those of you who are in that 5-10% who keep changing their votes in this thread in the last month or so. For those of you for whom achieving a fluky victory over an unremarkable (on the night) Juventus means Mourinho should stay and then losing 3-1 to this frankly excellent City team means Mourinho should go. I just can't. I have no hope for those of you at all. We're all fans here. We're not the old drunk guy at the pub who says he supports Man Utd but can't name 5 current players. And we're not the 21 year old girl who's trying to act cool and says she is a fan of the club but has actually never watched a single full game in her life. Most of us here have watched pretty much every game since Mourinho took charge. We've watched or read pretty much every press conference or important statement that he's given. We've sat around reading other people's takes on his actions, words, tactics, philosophy, mood, everything. FOR. MORE. THAN. TWO. YEARS.

But yeah. The next 5 games will FINALLY tell you what you need to know...

I hope to GOD that those of you who make statements like that are just like that when it comes to football matters. I certainly hope you think a little bit more deeply when it comes to things in your actual life. If not, then please consider thinking a bit more. Wonderful things may happen.

We have but he shoots himself in the foot today.

Why not just go out and pick a proper side and go for it? After this run of results and Juve, everyone would be much more forgiving if he just gave it a go rather than picking one of the most limited United sides I’ve ever seen to play the current Champions away?

Is this why we sit 8th behind Watford and Bournmouth with -1 GD because Jose was only given £400m to spend rather than £600m all while playing like total cowards? Get a grip.

Mourinho's going nowhere on the back of one poor result against City.

He needs to be decisive though and rest or remove matic from the squad and get Fred and Pereira into the team and playing consistently.

If Herrera had played better and we'd actually attempted to go for it upon scoring the penalty we could have salvaged some points. Instead we did more of the same and let city build back into their comfort zone, as exemplified by them scoring a goal after 44 passes.

We can't be second half fc every single week, as some teams are too good to let it happen and even against lesser teams some weeks it just isn't gonna come off.

If we can brush this loss off and then continue on our slow climb up the table and secure last 16 in the UCL then Mou's safe for the rest of the season in the Glazers eyes for sure.

Bailly, Lindelof, Fred, Matic, Sanchez, Mkhitaryan, Lukaku - some of the players bought by Jose. If Sir Alex's players are in the starting XI, it's because Daddy Mo has wasted money on some atrocious players.

I'm firmly Mourinho out but today doesn't make me any more vociferous or anything. They're the best team in the league. The performance wasn't good but certainly could've been worse.

The issues for me remain the bizarre approach we've taken to building a squad and the fact that we still have no discernible playing style. Mourinho has had 5 windows and over 100 games to address those issues, and he hasn't.

The goal was never a title challenge with the way we failed to strengthen in the summer. I think Liverpool have spent more than us along with City (obviously). I never actually expected a title challenge after the summer. I did at the start of the transfer window because I thought we'd fix a lot of holes, but Ed's gonna Ed.

Open your eyes man. You're acting as if United are dirt poor. It doesn't take that much money to get United to play better football.

And how much have Liverpool spent in comparison to United?

Why didn't Fred, Sanchez and Mata play today? Do we dislike quality on the ball or something?

We could have 5 even 10 points less and it would be 'salvageable', doesn't mean it's acceptable
Sure, our form wasn't acceptable back when we played West Ham or Wolves or Brighton. But that was then and this is now. We have been on a very good run of results so dropping points away to this City side isn't worthy of beating our manager with a stick with.

You should start giving more "fecks" about our goal difference because just 3 years back we finished 5th as we had a worse GD than City, which led to Van Gaal's firing and Jose's hiring.

I don't mind losing but at least play with your heart and give all out. Not this crap. The manager is responsible with this crap. Don't say about the Board not supporting him. How much has he spent and how crap have we been?

There is no right and wrong side vs city. Maybe Sanchez for Lingard but that's it. I don't think Fred would've been the right option today. We were in the game till the 85th min and could've nicked a draw but not today. Away to Juventus and away to city in span of 3 days is always going to be tough.

Knew this thread would get a lot of mileage after this game. Looking at where we were with the kind of fixtures on the horizon he has done okay to steady the ship and get some confidence back.

See the season out and then hand the reins to someone else next summer. Sacking him now won't do anything.

There isn't much between them. Last window Klopp spent more but I think Jose has spent more overall (concentrated heavily on two brand players).

But can we stop boning Liverpool please? The way they play I don't think they are special and they had luck their way probably more than any other top side this season. I dont think they will be near City by the end of the season.

Yes - the one time in how many years that goal difference actually mattered? I care about points, and our goal difference will improve as our points tally improves.

Out team are under-coached.

We looked like we had no idea how to play against them... Or how to press... Or how to do anything really.

People only bring up Liverpool because you cultists always bring up money as an excuse for Mourinho. People are sick of you cultists being completely biased. Just look at your opinion regarding Liverpool. "I don't think they are special and they had luck their way probably more than any other top side this season." And then you have the nerve to paint a positive light on Mourinho? It's absurd. Just what did you watch these past few fixtures where you can't paint United under the same brush?

Most sides tend to look clueless against City tbh. I think Liverpool were penned back quite heavily this season when they played em. Imagine taking out 3 star players on top.
