This kid cost Arsenal 26 million and he's better than all 3 midfielders combined that Jose spent 180 million on. Jose is completely out of touch with the game today

Uruguay usually have very good defensive players traditionally.

Generally players with perfect attitude that would do everything to win, they have a great footballing culture there. Probably the best out of any country.

Bentancur is breaking through at Juve, him at Torreira will make a fantastic midfield for years. If they keep producing CBs like Godin and Gimenez and strikers like Cavani, Forlan and Suarez then they'll comfortably be one of the top national teams in the future.

Torreira’s game is too good to classify in the traditional DM or B2B sense. To me he really comes alive in transition.

His positioning when transitioning from offense to defense has simultaneously allowed Xhaka to play more freely and covered our backline. The stats for this don’t show up so well but he’s either cutting off passing lanes or marking players out of attack allowing time for the rest of our players to make it back into position.

Additionally when transitioning from defense to offense, he constantly shows in good position to receive passes and turn up the midfield. He generally makes good decisions in taking the ball upfield or making a line cutting pass.

His work rate has also been relentless which has made him an absolute favorite among Gooners. We absolutely love him.
What this man said.

Like I said in the matchday thread, like Kante and Fernandinho he gets away with perpetual fouling throughout 90 minutes. He should be yellow a game this player.

Thought the same. Ghendouzi is good for his age but he got so many gifts from ref after overplaying tonight.
Yeah overall I think they're both good for young players. But judging purely today they were very lucky that the ref bought their professional wrestling selling

The players who get accused of never getting booked : Fernandinho, Kante, Casemiro. He's not in bad company. That means the player is always in the break up action, while we have Matic arriving late all the time (and that's why he actually gets booked)

Back to Lucas though, the Redondo and Verrati comparisons were definately bizarre.

He's a snide prick, but one that we'd love if he played for us.

Also surprisingly immune to bookings.
I am very glad he's on our team. We lacked this kind of bite for a long time.

I’m a bit shocked by some of the comments here, I can’t quite get my head around them being about an Arsenal player.

Im a bit shocked we were not after him. A number of people on here stated quite firmly that he was a class. And would perform on a very high level regardless of destination.

Him and Guendouzi were diving for their life in this game. Torreira with that Neymarish tripple spin while hanging on to his shin guards for dear life. Torreira should have had a yellow atleast three times.

He looks like midget version of Herrera. Like many said he has mastered the art of escaping yellow cards though.

Yeah, thought so too. Herrera also has mastered the dark art of kicking people all over the place while at the same time rolling around whenever someone get near him. It's easy to see Torreira has become a fan favourite at Arsenal.

I don't know what you lot are on about, I see a total of one foul committed by him in this entire clip:
