Got to be difficult for him. He’s a young lad getting thrown into a crisis, playing out of position. It’s not the way young players should be being brought into the team.

McTominay was played as a part of a back three (McTominay - Jones - Matic). I can't imagine either Fred or Pereira prospering in that role. Considering it's not his natural position, I actually thought he played quite well (and certainly a lot better than Matic, a much more experienced Defensive Midfielder also asked to do a job as a Centre Back).

You may not think much of him as a player, but he gave a solid and committed performance which is more than can be said of some of the others in the team.

Surely us fans have a right to expect something a bit more than ‘solid and commited’ ?

You could delve into the Championship or top end L1 and find 20 midfielders equal to or better than him.

He’s as average as they come. 5 years down the line he’s going to be a mid-table clogger at the likes of West Brom or Cardiff.

It's difficult having a go at him. He's not even half as talented as Cleverly was. This is an experiment/game that will end when Mourinho is fecked off.

A lot of people here seem willing to criticise a player who, despite being played out of position, gave a solid and committed performance whilst in other threads defending players who this season have given performances which were neither solid nor committed. McTominay was one of our better performers on Saturday in an admittedly poor team performance.

I expect if you look at every team ever to have won the league in England, you'll find it's full of players who give solid and committed performances. A good team is constructed from such material, with a few star players added to the mix: it isn't just an expensively assembled array of world beaters. Regarding your comment regarding finding better midfielders in the Championship or League 1, that may be true, but they don't play for us whereas McTominay does. He's also at a very early stage in his career, and will probably reach his peak in five years time.

We didn't have to play 3 at the back. And he's not good enough in midfield either there are other players more worthy of place in squad. He was making our benches even before this game

Feel sorry for the kid. Been shoved into the team as a political statement to the board. Clearly not good enough, not even as talented as the likes of Clerverly who was overhyped.

I'd be amazed if he ever appears for Utd again after Mourinho is sacked.
True, but you can’t expect a 40-year-old-by-then to get so easily in our lineup, as hopeless as we are.

On a serious note, I can’t blame Scott for anything. Feel like he’s doing his best, but he’s just not good enough yet (and who knows if he’ll ever be good enough), especially since he’s being played in crucial games with out of form team.

I don't think anyone blames him.

He's clearly not good enough to play for Utd right now. Maybe one day he will be, although I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that and it's not like he was getting rave reviews in the reserves or youth teams, but for now he shouldn't be in the team.

It feels like it's Mourinho making some point.

Mourinho using Scott as a pawn to moan about the CB he never got. Pathetic. Unai Emery has only been at Arsenal for 4 months. Spend 70M and is already playing at a higher level. While Mourinho needs another £400m on players he probably won't use, like Fred

Nothing but sympathy for the guy. Very difficult to evaluate his actual potential in the current circumstances. I think he showed enough last season to suggest potential in a Carrick role. He has an eye for a forward pass, can tackle, cover ground, physically up to it. He's slotting into a dysfunctional defence/ midfield with no leadership around him. It would take a pretty exceptional youngster to thrive in those circumstances. Ok if you don't fancy him, but the derogatory stuff is out of order.

Man Utd 4:1 Fulham
He should comfortably hit the header pass Sergio Rico as it was a good cross and him him having ton of space.

McTominay appears to be our new McNair. I don't see him surviving Mourinho's tenure. I mean I don't even understand how Mourinho is utilizing him now. One day a CB, next pointless sub in as an attacking mid. Im sure he's enjoying being selected but he must want a stable role and position.

Just get shut. I don’t want another fletcher who takes years to turn out shite again.

Might be way off here, but I think he was only put on to make a point to Pogba yesterday.

He prefers McTominay over Pereira for reasons unknown. It’s very frustrating as we can see who has the brighter future.

The PL has gotten much stronger now, and the foreign influx of coaches has changed things. In years gone by, he’d still get a career at Everton like the other rubbish we sent there. Now they would never go for him. And rightly so.

All the other clubs he would have historically moved to from us are unsurprisingly no longer in the PL, and I suspect he won’t be either, before long.

He has the attitude the manager wants. Fletcher was also bullied by fans for years, but he proved many wrong. Hopefully this will be the case with Scott as well. Glad to see youngsters getting playing time!

The cross was behind him so it was difficult to get any power or placement on it.

Fletch was an absolute beast in his youth days though, so him eventually coming good kind of just got him to the level he had been expected to reach. McTominay from my understanding was never particularly highly rated and most people who follow the youth teams are somewhat surprised that he was promoted into the first team. To be fair to McTominay though, he grew so much so quickly that he did become quite a different player over the course of 12 months and it's understandable he'd take a bit of time to come to grips with that.

Sad to see fans being so negative with one of our own. He's not even been bad but gets crucified.

Needs to go on loan next season. Should have happened this season.
Its impossible to make any judgment on him until he plays regularly for an entire season and it wont happen here. I am very surprised that Mourinho "wasted" two CM squadplaces on him and Pereira if he never was going to use them more than this to begin with.
Its detrimental to the club and especially to the young players themselves. We should not keep young players around as fringe squad players. If the plan is to really use them and give them playing time; fine. If not: loan.
OK, they are probably on dirt cheap wages, and it reflects good on Mourinho to have two young United-bred players in the squad; but it would had been enough to just have one of them in the squad this year.
Guess Pereira at least will be loaned out come the christmas window.

We have seen enough to judge him.
Would do well on the bench for the under 23s. Or as a rotational player for them. Offers little/nothing when on the ball, not physical despite his size. Slow. Does in no way have the abilities to be a backup player for the first team. Why he is given gametime over Pereira like yesterday does not make sense in my eyes. If he was 18 it may have been understandable. Seem like a nice guy though.

I dont know why you are using "we". I certainly have not seen enough of him to say that I know that.
He could very well be a decent player in a couple of years. Or not. He needs to play though for his own sake, he is never going to develop like this.
Spare me the hyperboles as well, btw. On the bench for the U23s? Really?

He seems a tidy guy, but not not good enough for Utd. He will be sold in next few years.

Could have been useful in the way football was played 20 years ago. Or could become the new Busquets.
I can agree that he will need to play regularly to improve.

I hope we don't hand him a big contact that would make it difficult for us to offload him. This guy will be playing for a lower championship team or a league 1 team with in the next couple of years. I have nothing against the kid, but he just doesn't have the talent to make a name for himself in the top flight. For Jose he is nothing but a prop to make his petty points.

I don't think he prefers him as such.

He is using him. In defence to make a point to the board and in midfield to make a point to Pogba.

Hes a petulant arsehole who is hampering the club with his childish behaviour.

Yes, Fletch was seen as a talent, but when he got games for the first team, he got a lot of abuse from fans. Saying he wasnt good enough etc. Same with Scott.

I just cannot understand fans saying things like " He should't play for us " Not good enough for League 1 " and stuff like that.

I'm glad we're giving youth a chance, be it Scott or Andreas. If they don't make it, we'll sell them for profit. Giving players like Scott playing time increases his value - Which is important.

Seems a nice hard working young lad but i just don't think he will ever have the quality to be a success here.

I can see him at a club like west brom or bournmouth in a few years.

I don't like dismissing young players so soon and I hope he proves me wrong but he just looks an average player.

I'm always an advocate of giving youth a chance but that's more to do with giving the talented players a chance, people want to see Gomes and Greenwood, not Dearnley and Hamilton. Giving players a chance is fine, we have given McTominay a chance and he doesn't really look the part, same with McNair and Blackett.

McTominay isn't as bad as people make him out to be, but I can honestly say I don't think he's anywhere near good enough and I don't think he'll ever be. Even his better games I've yet to really see any stand out qualities in him. This point about Fletcher really does need to die, he's not going to end up being the next Fletcher just because they have similarities with the criticism they shared when breaking through, that's where their similarities end.
