I wouldn't give him anything until he gets the team playing cohesive football, is 1 or 2 players going to make a difference to how he coaches and sets up the team, don't think so, we already have enough talented players being wasted, why add to it?

I’d rather we just paid 14m.

Jose out.

Throwing more money into this mess won't solve anything. We definitely need to improve the team - big time - but it would be better if we could start by playing decent football. Have we really fallen so low that we struggle to beat Young Boys??

Yes but most people think that is fine so we will continually struggle while backing a manager that has failed.

The transfer window will be a big indication as to the where the board sits with Jose. If he gets his old guard players (Perisic etc), then we are in trouble. If a player does come in (I doubt there will be), then hopefully he is a young talent that the board knows another manager can work with.

Genuinely hope we don't spend a penny unless it is Koulibaly.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
If you're gonna back him - why not back him in the Summer...?

Why waste the season?

These people are idiots.

Mourinho is playing awful football, and Woodward isn't capable of running this club.

It doesn't matter what we spend if either Jose or Ed are involved in making football decisions at united.

We are struggling to score goals against relegation sides and young boys for God's sake.

City can beat us without getting out of 2nd gear. How the board doesn't see the situation we are in and where we are headed is beyond me.

He should.

I'm guessing the power struggle is Ed ends his contract, Jose gets a payout. Jose wins

Jose doesn't get his way, leaves, no payout. Ed wins.
Ultimately it’ll be us fans that lose.

Let's see, the tight bastards who run the club, have to pull there wallet out, in Jan in summer and next summer, whoever the manager is. Obvious the squad has not got the quality needed. Or playing style.. 2 CB s needed and I've said all along another striker.

You have to wonder how long we'll continue to throw money at the problem before the penny drops and someone cottons on to the fact that spending money isn't the be all and end all to winning trophies.

I dont think our primary goal is to win titles anymore and as long as the Ed and the Glazers are around, we should probably start getting used to that

Don't wanna waste £100m on three 29 year olds in Jan when it is likely the cnut will be gone in the summer.

Why wait, I say get it done now but in my opinion a DOF ain’t gonna happen, I think it’s all talk from Woodward.

Yeah, my post was a joke. Ideally, sack him today and get a DOF asap. I agree though I think Ed is too proud to hire a DOF. The man has a huge ego.

It would be so typical of the way our club has been run in recent years for us to give a manager, who is likely to lose his job in the summer, £100m to spend in January having previously not backed him in the summer.

Who can we sign in January that won’t be available for a better price in the summer?

The list of options will be much shorter in January which is how we ended up with Sanchez.

To be fair to all calling for the sack. Jose wasn't fully backed in the summer just gone. We were crying out for defensive improvement and only got Dalot. We need to get rid of Jones and Rojo and get a dominate centre back in ASAP.

Well, we went on to improve the midfield and spent on fred with his need for Brazilian creativity, and Sanchez who was supposed to guide these youngsters and improve our attack. What about the attacking side of the game? If we are conceeding 2 we should have the ability to score 3. Do we have that?

What mourinho means is I want a 100 m addition in defense, for him to snatch a 1-0 win from opposition by parking the bus. It's ridiculous to say he was not backed. This narrative held some ground if we were in the title race and leaking goals costed us points. But that's not the case.

The thing is that the £100.000.000 will be used to replace his own signings :smirk:

Yep.
The aim is to make as much money as possible and unfortunately, winning the title is not the way to maximise profits, due to the funds required to move up from say 4th place, to 1st place.
To get into the CL (ie. top 4) is basically the optimal place to be, to maximise profits, while keeping us relevant and this is what is stipulated in managers' contracts - you must get CL football or you may be fired.

Spending £100M on a defender who is 27 yrs of age, just is not going to happen.
Yep, it's insanity no matter how good he is, he wont solve our problems, with poor tactics and immobile players like fellani and Matic and pogba sheilding them.

I think most of us were stretching our imaginations in expecting Jose to turn this team into some sort of great attacking unit. His specialty is defensive football. Of all the times to decide not to back him, when he asked for better defenders was probably the most idiotic.

Agree, and it's not like the defenders he signs will suddenly be useless for the next manager too.

I'm not sure I agree!

If the market continues its rapid decent, a billion spent today could be far more useful than drip buying over 5 years.

Winning more encourages more players to demand a move to United also reducing transfer and salary demands

Plus advertisers only want the biggest and best and if you are looking over 10 years then winning is important and could provide greater returns.

There of course is a balance when the competition has no interest in profit, but focusing on 4th is setting up for longer term failure.

Just imagine if we had spent that £400m 7 or 8 years ago rather than now. We could have had a team of world class stars.

Your narrative towards it being ridiculous to say Mourinho wasn't backed is flawed. We gained 2nd place last season due to others around us not being at their best but we knew Liverpool only needed to tweak a few things in their squad to be title challengers, whilst City already have a vastly superior squad. We knew Spurs team would continue to improve with their talent of players and manager and then Chelsea and Arsenal would both vastly improve with their new managers, so we needed to spend to bridge the gap on the quality of our squad compared to others, this didn't happen. So we stood still and allowed everyone else around us to improve, which they have, so it's no surprise where we find ourselves in the table.

I said at the start of the season, we can't sack Mourinho after not backing him fully as it's not a fair yard stick to beat him with should we fail. We all know Mourinho is a defensive first approach kind of manager, once he has this though he won't neglect the attack side of our team.

As it stands, Mourinho doesn't trust the defence and that's why we have Matic stood right infront of them as they can't play the ball out and just aren't the best at defending. Once Mourinho feels he fully trusts his defence, that's when he'll push the midfielders further forward and this will help the attacking transition in our tactics.

Doesn't seem that way here one bit, as it doesn't take a defensive specialist to figure out that his favoured favourite and def mid is the worst player on the pitch directly responsible for where we lie in the table and why we keep dropping points. A def specialist who was snubbed by the league's most prolific def mid in kante, a specialist who can't get the fact that pogba needs legs around him like Herrera and fred than the immobility of matic and fellani, and also playmakers to control the game which could unleash him to take attacking responsibilities.

He went on to sign 2 defenders already which he treats poorly due to few individual mistakes while holding his favourites to different standards. If he doesn't trust those players to carry out the jobs then why did he approve of those signings in the first place, and bought his preferred signing in the first place instead which would have costed the club less money.

Jose has been abysmally poor in decision making here and he is hiding behind the theory our our under investment in defense. Did we need a cb to be in title race? No not one bit. Are we struggling to beat smaller clubs due to the fact we didnt get a cb? No.

I at least expected him to show maturity to the fact that our problems lie in the midfield more than it lies at the back by getting top midfielders and trying to build a counter attacking side like his Madrid stint rather than sticking on to his preference of immobile physical lumps like matic or fellani.

I can agree to the fact that we should have bought a cb like toby given his contract situation in order to push from our second placed finish to concerning it into a title fighting campaign. But he is responsible for the mess he created himself with his tactics and biased treatment across the squad which is not any defensive specialist should do.

The money could be better used if we bought some midfielders who could pass the ball and dominate the midfield and win battles in the middle and create opportunities than to splash 100 m on one defender only to smash and grab the victory over our opposition. We don't have a unlimited budget after all, and could not spent over a certain amount in a season which is a huge figure in itself when used properly.

Nah, that argument doesn't hold any water. Our team was not that poor that it should stuggle to beat the likes of Brighton, palace, westham, Arsenal, Newcastle wolves, even young boys and Valencia and have a negative goal difference at this stage of season. We beat all 19 teams in the league last year, so clearly we were more than capable to stay in title fight without getting a defender. For winning it, yes we needed one.

The highlighted point made me laugh. Is matic really helping? Or he is the one responsible for the mess?

This makes no sense. why would a new manager automatically make Chelsea and Arsenal suddenly better than us (2nd place team) unless our manager is utter shite and has poor tactics in comparison to these new guys? A manager of Jose calibre should not be getting outperformed by Sari and Emery. Arsenal staring line up and squad is not even that great. spurs signed no one. why can't our manager improve his players like Spurs do? we signed 4 players in 2018, 2 have been flops so far. Liverpool still have that awful midfield so have added a GK and CB to bridge the gap. They are certainly not scoring much. Fact is all Jose signings flop in one way or another. How is signing 4 players in one year standing still? If Sanchez had turned out a superstar, we would not have a problem as we'd score more than our oppo. The issue was giving him a longer contract. As Ferdinand said "no manager asks for 5 players and gets them all in one go, that's life" you can't just complain and down tools, use the very expensive hand you have got.

I think a ball playing quality centre back will provide more advantageous than we might expect.

In any case regarding midfield we do have Herrera and Fred capable of breaking up play with high energy. If we replaced Pogba with a similar candidate who can drag the team further up the pitch then it would be great.

Hah cheers. I was surprised it wasn't taken already. And admittedly makes me feel more snarky than I have right to.

Mate, this is a shocking post. Aside from being factually incorrect on several points, contradicting yourself on multiple occasions , it also showcases a deep misunderstanding of football.
