Keano wisdom... and if Pogba plays it's proof Mo has lost it

Everyone knows when Keane wasn’t playing or training he used to sit in a dark room and brood until the next training session where he would come and berate everyone around him. That’s what the ideal footballer does in my book.
Keane used to hibernate in his cave between matches

Having interests outside of football is no biggie, but doing it now, bringing out a clothing line when the club is in disarray and everyone is playing shit, just seems a bit disrespectful. They should just be concentrating on football right now, or at least looking that way to the fans who pay a lot of money to watch such dross.

What kind of muppet do you have to be to think anyone wants your clothes while playing this kind of football?

"People say you should have other stuff outside of football. I don't think you should.....you can do all that stuff when you retire."

Count the number of world class players who have stuff outside football (beginning with Ronaldo) and who don't wait until they retire.

It quickly becomes apparent that Keane is talking utter shite in that regard. Players can of course have other interests and other streams of revenue outside of football, they'd be dull soulless creatures if they didn't. It doesn't automatically mean their performances will diminish in the slightest either, as if it did then countless modern greats wouldn't be modern greats.

Is someone like Mata suddenly less professional because of his involvement in Common Goal? After all, there's no reason that should be any less of a distraction than a clothing line.

That's the bit I disagree with. If you can't have outside interests, where do you draw the line? Are you allowed to have a family? Family's are a lot of work and a major commitment afterall. Are you allowed to do charity work? Are you allowed to build a climbing frame in your garden for your kid? Or is that too distracting?

Being completely tunnel visioned for the span of a 15-20 year career and focusing on nothing but football doesn't sound like a good path for your own mental health. Players are human beings afterall. The mind needs to debrief and decompress. When training and playing, players should be absolutely 100% committed, give everything and put their body on the line, but there's a lot of free time outside of that. How do you spend that just "focusing on the game" as Keane suggests? Do you just sit in a dark room, chanting "football!" until it's time to train again?

Besides, how much involvement does he even have with his own clothing line? He's not sewing the garments is he? He's not even designing it. He didn't even come up with that JL goal celebration he does. It'll all be handled by his entourage. It launched last sunday afternoon, where he and Rashford made an appearance and took some photos with people, that was it. There's been another 6 whole days since then and today.

It's a load of hot air over nothing. Just because Keane has the personality of baked potato doesn't mean an entire profession should follow suit.

There's a difference between what should be, and what is. Players shouldnt need motivating to train hard and play hard, they get paid a lot. But the fact is, they still do. They need managers to boost their morale, to spur them on the training ground and to tell them what to do on the pitch. Doesnt matter how much people like Keano wish otherwise, this is the reality of football.

I wonder what Keane was doing during the long hours where he wasn't training or playing.

Probably drinking himself into oblivion like the perfect professional he is. It’s not okay to have a clothing line but it is okay to have a drinking problem whilst pursuing a professional football career.

Last time I checked Cristiano does clothing lines etc and it hasn’t prevented him from being one of the all time greats. What is holding Lingard back isn’t distractions it is mostly the fact he just isn’t all that as a footballer if we are rating him by first team standards of the past.

They can't bring that up as a slight against him when he gave what he did though. The point is if they were half as driven as Keane it wouldn't matter. The last sentence is just a made up assumption. We see what effect these players have on our team week in week out.

Why would you imagine something happening to the club?
Because I'm sure the club has a say when it comes to image rights and other revenue streams with players. We know Ed gets a hard on for the commercial and merchandising of assets but the club is in turmoil right now and a nothing player like Lingard doing this right now doesn't look too good. Kind of petty I know but right now the club should come 1st but all I see is a bunch of fecking children thinking of themselves.
Our players need to be held to the fire because regardless of the manager and his shit tactics and preparations they've been embarrassing this season. They need to come together as a group, grow some fecking balls and fight. And who the feck is going to buy Jesse Lingard apparel, seems like a venture that won't go anywhere.

Keane used to hibernate in his cave between matches

Come on mate, Keane didn’t sleep. You should know that. Only these younger, unprofessional, overpaid social media footballers sleep. Keane was always awake, reflecting on the last match. All he ever thought about was football.

That's a bit of random point...

Just demonstrates that where you have excellent players underperforming, it's generally down to the manager. Keane can talk about professional pride all he wants, if the manager isn't getting the best from his players then it's on him.

Basically: Jose out. Keane in. Amirite?

I agree with most of what he's saying here.

People can point to the likes of Ronaldo, and even back to Beckham but the difference is they were highly dedicated and incredibly successful before launching their 'brands' and continued to be afterwards. They've built their brands on the back of on field success.

The thing with Lingard in particular irks me. Hes achieved nothing in the game, apart from playing for Man Utd. Leaving aside how good you think he is or isn't, hes been in shite form for most of the year - he only recently broke his scoring drought which last 26 games. So what's he building his brand on the back of? The answer is Man Utd. If Lingard played for Everton or some other club would he be launching his own clothing brand?

To me, he's trading of the popularity of the club. If he was a major part of successes at the club fair enough maybe. Doing it while the team is struggling, and while he's not done much to contribute, to me, seems out of order.

100% agree with this

I've been trying to work out why Lingard's clothing line stuff bothers me... And this adequately sums it up.

I think Keano’s right, what him and Neville where getting at is the players rather than playing for the badge and being focussed are more self serving these days with image and personal interests taking priority, sadly it’s a growing trend in the youth of today

Too many mercenary’s in the squad not enough willing to bleed for the club

The difference between Ronald , Beckham, Giggs etc and the current batch is the aforementioned gave there all on the pitch which sadly some of the current lot arnt

Jesse Lingard is not an excellent player
Pogba can be an excellent player but, he has always struggled with inconsistency.

If he batters a few of the players and Woodward, I'm all for it

Where exactly was Keane arguing that Lingard and Pogba should stop using Instagram and should be drinking more?

Nobody would have an issue with 'JLingz' and his clothing brand if he wasn't a complete man child and bang average mediocre player, nobody has an issue with the likes of Ronaldo because he is absolutely world class and brings it on the pitch time and time again, but everybody had an issue with Tom Cleverley and his TC23 brand because he was a bang average mediocre player just like Lingard, who barely brings anything to the pitch. So I think people get annoyed because the club is serving up shite leaving us fans in misery and they are jollying it up and launching clothing brands despite the fact they are serving up shit on the pitch, fans are bound to get frustrated at this I guess...

Look at it this way. Does anyone think if SAF was the manager he would let any player open a clothing line the day before a Liverpool game?

Whilst he's at it, it would be nice if he 'battered' that useless manager of ours as well. How people can still stan for that disgusting creature is beyond comprehension.

Jose is not SAF. You never heard SAF shitting on the club and players the way this man does.

You’re right. He just sat staring out of the darkness like some psycho robot

Hitler was a disgusting creature
Bashar al-Assad is a disgusting creature
Rapists, murderers and paedophiles are disgusting creatures.

Mourinho is not a digusting creature tbf :D
He's just doing a shit job

Then again, it doesn't help that the club is in a mess and Phil Jones is lurking around the place

This is perfect.

I am not talking about Jose. I am talking about Keane's statement on the Lingaard issue of opening a clothing line before the Liverpool game.

You'll be surprised.
I suspect its just kids though.

It must be right... does an adult want to be seen in a brand called JLingz?
He is a pro footballer for Manchester United, he does funny and ''cool'' stuff like handshakes and dancing online so kids are going to like that and be a Lingard fan. So when that kids his mum buys him a Jlingz shirt he is going to be very happy and proud to wear it.

He's talking about how can an average player like Lingard who hasn't done anything of significance have his own clothing line.

Lingard shouldn't even be a Manchester United player, and he epitomises why we are a bang average team now. When you see him launch a clothing brand the week of the Liverpool game, it just proves to me why I'm starting to care less about this 'franchise' of a club. The priorities of the club and the players are just completely wrong.

JLINGZ x Be Yourself is the official, exclusive collection by Jesse Lingard. Taken by inspiration from the streetwear scene and contemporary fashion to reflect his own style.

Throwing parties and launching clothing lines whilst we 6th is just what midtable players with no winning mentality would do. Keane is right.

Sorry disagree. If it's all down to the players, then why the feck are we paying this guy £15M a year? I just get fed up with the narrative shifting away from him. People not wanting to hold him responsible keep shifting to everyone else except the man in charge of setting up and motivating the players.

People like Keane and Neville never worked under these conditions with such a manager, so how can they fecking judge? Keane would have killed Jose already, if he were the one receiving all the public bollocking.
