Mourinho left Real Madrid a month after the 4-1 defeat by Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund in April 2013; two years later Mourinho was sacked at Chelsea a month after a traumatic 3-1 defeat by Klopp’s Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.... he must hate Klopp

Looks like Woody has been briefing the media.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46603018

  • The decision was taken in the long term interests of club
  • The club views the last few months as disappointing and unsettling. It felt a change had to be made
  • It is unhappy there has been no progress in results or style, despite Mourinho being responsible for choosing all 11 signings
  • It has accepted players and staff were not happy under Mourinho
  • Young players were not developed.
  • Mourinho wanted to work within his own structure - the club will be looking to add a head of football.
  • That person would be in overall charge of the football side of the club, reporting to Ed Woodward
  • The club also says the new manager will understand the philosophy of the club, including its attacking traditions.
  • The club hope to appoint a caretaker-manager before they face Cardiff City on 22 December but it will not be assistant manager Michael Carrick or academy boss Nicky Butt.
  • The candidate will be drawn from outside the club, but will not be former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
That's intersting if true.

Wasn't Mourinho sacked after losing to Ranieri's Leicester?

Edit: never mind, you said a month after

I actually think he did this on purpose. Maybe after he didnt get his signings - gave up. Maybe tried for a month of new season then did as much damage as he could without it looking totally obvious (like playing a team full of youngsters every week).

When's Woodward's turn? We can change the manager as many times as it takes but it's not going to change the fact that he hasn't hired a director of football and still overrides the manager on footballing transfers whenever he feels like it.

Well, from the names being thrown around the only real manager is Blanc. I have no more trust in people who have been coaches than I would in Evra. At least the guy absolutely loves the club and has a uniquely positive hard working attitude. I think he can instill that in the players

Ambition.

Secondly we'd still pay him more than Spurs can. Doesn't mean we should pay him the same as the best manager in the world.
Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world. Why would he be better than Zidane, Allegri, Klopp, Simeone, Pochettino and others? All of the mentioned coaches deliver outstanding football and no guarantees for Champions-League, even if you give them massive amounts of money. With the money Guardiola invested in the club he did nothing that warrants him beeing the best. He got beaten in two years in the Champions-League by lesser sides and made Bayern Munich a laughing stock against good oppositions.

Agree. But in any case not backing him after renewing a contract was daft.
He was backed with £70m last summer. How many clubs get all their targets every summer?

Mourinho has had plenty of money to spend since he came here and he's almost bought a new first 11

Even the likes of Ferguson were told no to signings at times but he just got on with job instead of having a meltdown like Mourinho

Hope we have a Di Matteo style run in the Champions League whoever it is.

Blanc will be a good choice. His club football achievements are very good, he had plenty of success with Bordeaux and then performed fine with PSG.

From the brief, seems like we'll be hiring a new manager and a director of football. Seems like we're blaming the lack of DoF on Mourinho not wanting one.

I'm all for Woody going, but if we can get a new DoF who is empowered and trusted, then great.

Guys only discussion about the caretaker manager here. Please use the other thread for permanent manager.

Thanks.

I doubt Blanc would want a caretaker role unless there is a guarantee he'll be given the role full time
He has been out of job for two years. Getting a short term gig at United would put him back on the map and obviously if he performed well during these 6 months he would earn himself a longer deal.

I don't think it's as straightforward as whoever takes over now will 100% leave in June.

As it seems after PSG he didn't train anybody.

His achievments are: 4x french champion (3x PSG, 1x Bdx), 2x french cup champion (PSG), 4x french league cup champion (3x PSG, 1x Bdx), 5x french super cup champion (3x PSG, 2x Bdx)

Furthermore (games / average points)
Bdx: 159/1,96
Fra: 27/2,04
PSG: 173/2,36

Actually he just got sacked at Paris cause they weren't able to go up in CL (If I remember correctly there was also some issure with the ref).

As mentioned above, from the available coaches/managers he seems to be the best choice, currently)!
Thanks mate. Yes I think he is a good choice too.

Goes without saying.

We'll accept the issues that come with prioritising attack over defence. Just give us something to cheer.

Also for me, let's appoint someone who isn't a complete cnut. Both Moyes and Mourinho are horrible people. Let's get someone I can actually feel for and defend during the bad days.

Look. I am not against ZZ but what you have just said worries me.
Whoever gets appointed, things are going to be pretty difficult and decisions made that the coach may not agree with.

We simply cannot have a situation where ZZ throws his toys out and says I AM OFF.
That's the reality isn't it, fans want a manager that will put up with the board's BS. SAF peddled 'no value in the market' when we were leveraged up the arse and had to spend less money.

Bear in mind Zidane wanted Pogba and didn't get him. He still won 3 CLs in a row. He just had a limit that is very sensible.

We have a decent group of club ambassadors including Sir Bobby, Sir Alex, Neville, Irwin, McClair, Cole, Robson and others who should, along with Nicky Butt and maybe Kieran McKenna - be locked in a room and asked to put down in writing exactly the criteria for how Manchester United Football Club should play football.

First things first, a candidate for Director of Football should be identified. Such a person must have:
  • Experience at creating structures and systems from scratch at a major, high profile club.
  • An attacking approach to quick, modern and exciting football.
  • A focus on recruiting, developing and playing young, exciting players.
Once that person has been identified and hired, they should be tasked with recruiting a manager who best suits their vision for bringing the club into line with the stated goals.

The manager (or head coach), along with the scouts, the academy coaches and all other footballing personnel should be answerable to the Director of Football who's performance is judged on how well we are meeting the three points above rather than wins or short term performance.

First and foremost, what exactly is the United way you are all talking about? SAF played boring football bar 08/09 season. We’re not Barca with the tiki taka, or Kloops pool with the gegenpress. The United way is a myth.
What I mean by the United way is attacking football with a squad filled with players who want to play for United and who want to play for their manager. A squad filled with chemistry and belief. That was what SAF guaranteed. Boring games I can handle. Half hearted primadonnas with no hunger to win games and a club with no direction I can't .

Why do people think it will be Blanc, he can't speak English and wasn't he quite bad at PSG?

Have thought since the team line up for the West Ham game that Mourinho was hoping to get the bullet - I don't think it was a good fit for anyone involved.

I really think we should go for someone with a bit of experience who is developing their own radical style of football and is working within a modern football club structure. I don't really want another established old manager I think we need something fresh and new.

Zidane has no experience at rebuilding is the point I'm making here where as Pochettino is probably the 2nd best manager in the league but with a tight budget and has made some very good and important signing as well as youth players come through which fits our philosophy
What makes him a better manager than Klopp (I asumme St Pep is the best)?

Our philosophy should be to WIN trophies, Zidane has proven beyond any doubt he is excellent at doing just that.
