Could be all bollocks and we end up with fecking Conte or something disastrous like that.

But it sounds like getting in a manager who plays fast exciting attacking football is the priority which sounds great.

… Utd sign bigger players ….
You confuse more expensive with "bigger".

Alli - £4m. Pogba - £90m. But I know which player I'd want in my team on a cold night in Stoke or when the chips are down on the biggest stages.

And there are plenty more examples where that came from.

I get why Blanc's name is coming up (though I'd not particularly want his as the permanent manager). The idea of Solskjaer coming inuntil the end of the season just makes me feel happy.

Maybe that's naive and a poor way of thinking. But at this point we don't really have a lot to lose thanks to Jose

What the feck is going on? I thought they were actively trying to sell the club and wanted to save money?

Jose be like - "How can i get myself that bonus £6m payment???.. hmmm.. Let me object to something that's good for the club."

Poisonous person.
That's a bit silly. It's completely understandable from his point of view and acceptable in any other line of work. You'd like to pick the people that your job performance depends on, even though you rarely get that chance.

I really had hoped it would have worked out better for him, but for whatever reason it didn't. What really worries me is the last 3 managers we have had the vast majority of fans have been delighted when they left the club, are we just going round in circles? Hire a manager, be optimistic, things start to go wrong, get utterly sick of the style of football and the results, pray he gets sacked, rejoice when he does get sacked, then start all over again... Maybe the problem isn't the manager at all
I'm not as optimistic as some other posters on here. I'm glad we got rid of Jose but I'm not one of them who think we'll magically become good with a new manager.

If we wanted Howe then we'd be able to get him now; avoiding the need for an interim manager. We're clearly not interested in Howe (thankfully).
Mid-season? From a club he's spent years and years at? Not fecking likely.

Be careful what you wish for!

Certainly Jose had to go, now or at the end of the season, fourth place now out of sight and the defeat against Liverpool and the manner of it (never really laid a glove on them!) finally did for him. However, who comes in? We are a broken club at the moment, too many players who are either not good enough or don't want to play for the shirt, who can rebuild us with Woodward in charge of the purse strings?

Which top manager would leave his current job to pick up a basket case as we have become?
It can only be ZZ, only one (top manager) out of work just now, if he turns us down, need to get LvG back!... I said be careful what you wish for!
Just leave with your man.

OGS would be a very exciting option till the end of the season. I’d love it he would be able to come in and earn the job. But I’m also very sentimental.

Blanc would seem like a very good option to steady the ship for the rest of the year too. More experience at a top level club.

I think for the rest of this year though playing style and all that should be very secondary to just managing the personalities in the locker room and turning them back into a team that is working together.

Whatever happens now, please don’t appoint Simeone, Conte, Allegri, Benitez, Jardim or another one of many pragmatic / defensive managers. I want the excitement back.
How is Jardim a pragmatic or a defensive manager? His football with Monaco was magnificent, and what made him known to the world.

With Simeone we will probably go even more defensive, if that’s possible, but I absolutely adore seeing him on the touchline. And no, him and Klopp are different, he doesn’t have a punchable face.

However, it will be a terrible appointment. He strives as the underdog, we don’t want that anymore. Plus, that kinda romantic bond with Atleti will be broken, which I don’t want to happen.

Simeone actually is an exciting manager to support, regardless of what you think of how he plays football. If you've ever seen or experienced Atletico madrid its one of the best to watch and support a game in. He makes the team and players die and play for the badge, it however is boring to watch week in week out if you arent in person at the game (which I obviously am not living in Australia).

But thats more of a problem for international fans. A hard headed tough love manager wont work for these soft dancing weak mentality fecks though

Gutted Mourinho didnt work out. I loved that bastard. Sorry state of affairs at the club the future looks bleak. When Van Gaal and Moyes were sacked at least their was hope that things would change. Devoid of any hope atm.

Actually surprised that they went through with sacking him now. I thought they would wait until Champions League was no longer possible, like previous sackings.

I'm glad that they have gone through with it though, we need someone with a more positive attitude now.

Blanc has the French connection, could settle Pogba, Convenience Martial to resign and step into the DOF position next season. hopefully would be enough to convince De Gea to stay too!

If we appoint Simeone next summer you can put me on suicide watch. :(

Attacking football should be a prerequisite for any future manager we hire.
This club would be dead within a few years of his appointment.

Same message that Real and Chelsea sent. And it backfired badly for both.
Sure Real Madrid won the UCL three times with questionable refereeing, apparent drug use, one of the best footballers ever, and two more managerial changes. That doesnt mean it'll happen to us, also the fall back from that you can see at madrid now

Anyone else got a huge weight lifted off their shoulders now?

I've had heavy shoulders and a sick stomach watching us all season and it's gone and it feels amazing.

I don't care if the results don't improve as long as we work on the football and actually go for an attacking style.

I don't care if the results don't improve as long as we don't have a miserable cnut in interviews and on the bench making everything feel worse either. Mourinho is a joyless person who sucks joy from other people and leaves us all empty vessels.

I do wonder though, cause every time it's cut to the bench during a game, Carrick is just sat there not saying a word and not really doing anything so what influence has he been having? McKenna talks a bit more when you see it but again, were they both just accepting of what Jose said or will they change things?

I'd like to believe Carrick has it in him to make us play good football but let's see.

Let's see if all the players Mourinho ostracised suddenly step up. Pogba, Martial, Shaw, Sanchez, Pereira, etc, now is your time to show us what you've got and prove to us that it was the manager. If not, get gone and get gone ASAP.

We need a full, fresh start. Let's do it.

I'm not even sure I want him, but if you seriously think Spurs are the most attractive club to manage in world, you need to have a word with yourself. They're not even the biggest club in London.
I haven't suggested that Spurs are the most attractive club to manage in world, so why you feel the need to suggest otherwise is beyond me.

I have suggested that currently, for Pochettino, we're a lot more attractive than United.

I'm no football nerd, but I know his football is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Would be a great interim appointment which could give us an outside shot at getting 4th in the league.
Don’t kid yourself. 4th is long gone. The board want to salvage EL for the money aspect.

Back to the topic at hand. Pleasantly surprised at the news. Figured it would not happen at least until after Liverpool. Hope the players bounce back with an emphatic win against Cardif.

He would be a dream hire as far as interim appointments go. Hard to get a better calibre of manager without guaranteeing a permanent contract.

Think we stand a chance of Top 4 if he comes in. And if he does well, don't see why we won't have an option to extend his contract.

Agree, but anything can happen. I will be happy if we just play to our potential, go on a run and give it a close chase to finish 5th. Blanc can do that, in my opinion.

Imagine the laughter if we do appoint Conte. Oh dear god... Talking about being a laughing stock.

I wonder when Jose will have his first say about his sacking and time with us. Will he slate the club? Throw the club under the bus?

It's not a United manager related thread without @GlastonSpur saying United have no chance of hiring such and such, and how better Ali is than Pogba. I bloody wish Ali was as good as Pogba because we might've done a bit more at the World Cup!

I'm not aguing who has been better in the transfer market recently, far from it. Alli is a ridiculous example though - he was a young player immediately sent back on loan to MK Dons.

If Spurs wanted a top class player and so did Utd, Spurs wouldn't be able to sign him. There's a pecking order, Barca and Madrid are at the top, and Utd are higher than Spurs.

You were talking about attractiveness of the two clubs to any given player/ manager.

Hasn't he worked with DOF at other clubs? I don't think it's his call to make. He's not going to be here for ever so its pure shortsightedness.

I love Simeone and quite like watching Atletico from time to time. But please, please don’t hire him as a United manager. We need the attacking mindset back.
