That would have led to claims that the board is clueless and is taking a huge risk based on sentiment in hiring a former fan favorite who has only succeeded at lowly Molde and failed at Cardiff. In short people will complain either way.
I don't care one bit if 'people' complain. That was not the point of the discussion whatsoever. There is next to nothing indicating that this was a planned appointment. All the word coming out is that this was forced on the board because the relationship between manager and players got so bad this season. It was extremely obvious that his time was up in late September but they waited and waited just like they always do and this made everything worse.

Now we are hearing that their next step is to hire a DoF and go 'all out' for Pochettino. A manager that is on a 5 year contract and has said that he prefers not to work with a DoF. Not to mention they gave Jose a contract extension for coming 2nd place, then said his targets weren't worth the money, once again showing inconsistent and reactionary running of the club. It's a complete shit show.

It’s a chance to give it a go. Take the leash off and just have some bit of fun. Ole will prob try do a Zidane (Spanish press always said he wasn’t gifted tactically but he managed the egos of personnel pretty good), just the lads play - but make sure moral and characters remain good in the dressing room. Definitely a steadying of the ship rather than an all out transition under him. Understandable as it is a huge jump up for him.

Probably already been said, but I suspect the board is just trying to copy the Di Matteo appointment in 2012. Sack the manager when the team is out of CL contention, appoint a fan favourite ex player on an interim basis and then sit back and watch them bring home a 4th big cup.

I've a question for the Norwegians, how is the kj in Solskjaer pronounced? I know in Swedish (maybe?) it can be pronounced similar to sh. But is that the same for Norwegian/Solskjaer.

I wss watching a video of all his goals and every commentator pronounced it a different way and it's gotten me confused

Pronunciation by someone from the Eastern/Oslo region. Just to be clear, Kristiansund is on the Western part of Norway and has a different dialect, so his own pronunciation would be one of a different accent and the stress could also be different from the example I've linked. I suspect this is one of the reasons why you hear different variations from the commentators, in addition to his name having the æ, and not having a clear-cut English pronunciation.

Which Caf member is this in the picture? :)
Think that's Emil Gukild, a Norwegian reporter. He recently knocked out chess champion Magnus Carlsen during a rest day at the world championships. Chess can get super competitive.

If nothing else, Ole will quickly drive out the poisonous and under siege attitude that seeped out of Mourinho and into the club and squad. No wonder half the players (or is it everyone but his small group of goons?) Were fecking miserable

To be fair creating a siege mentality was one of Fergie’s strengths, Jose just did it terribly.
Fergie's siege mentality was the club vs the world. Not Fergie himself v the world. Crucial detail Mourinho failed the understand.

It's just occurred to me that his first two names sums him up well. Ole, a word associated with football cheers and chants, and Gunnar, a word that brings to mind guns and shooting, ie: a striker.

Damn it Ole, please please be a success. I want to enjoy watching United for the first time in years.

Does anyone know the current players Ole managed when he was in charge of the reserves. All I can think of is Pogba. Rashford is probably too young, but maybe lingard and peierra?

Other people on here have said Lingard and Pogba were in OGS's youth team when he was coaching them. I think they are the only ones
