First manager press conference in a while I actually enjoyed watching, put a big smile on my face. Hopefully his positivity rubs off onto the players and he kicks off as manager with a good result.

I understand that and I would be fine with it if it was a player we can't miss out on, but there's a danger the player won't fit in the plans for the next manager. Say we buy a defender who isn't great on the ball and the next manager then wants defenders who are good on the ball. See that's what issue is with it.

But if it's someone as talented as de Ligt then I'm all for it.
I understand that, and it's a good point but the same could be said about any of the players at the club, no matter how long they have been there.
To be fair we probably won't buy any one unless it is someone to good to miss, my guess is a winger,

Nicely answered question about Pogba's performances - by making the answer about the team as a whole. I'm looking forward to him being the manager, because he doesn't look like he's going to single anyone out for particular praise or criticism. We'll win and lose as a team.

Good interview, excited to see the next match. I have a feeling we'll do well till the end of the season. Maybe not top 4 but if not, very close

Really good press conference.

Thank christ. One of the major issues I had with Mourinho was how miserable and at times, insane he came across when speaking to the media.

Feels like United of old again. Now let's get a good result against Cardiff.

Ole looks a lot like Andy Serkis.

Feeling quite happy to see our manager smile and talk about attacking first and worry about results later. As opposed to Jose wearing an expression like the milk got spoilt.

I regard Ole as a clutch in this gear-shift (manager change) from Mourinho to Pochetino (or Zidane). Having Mourinho grinding our players for 6 more months would be devastating for our club. There's no way someone could come in and make us compete against Liverpool and City with only the summer and preseason to build them back up after Mourinho's tare down. Now Solskjaer hopefully will make our team enjoy football again, so the next manager can come in an take over a squad that actually believe they're good enough to win against Southampton and Brighton, playing football. I don't care about Mourinho - the squad is probably better now than when he arrived, but on the pitch, our performance is just as dreadful as it was 3 years ago.
This is the right way to think about it. Rather than worrying about unreachable goals like top 4 or CL victory, this is about getting ready for next season and the new manager while cheering everyone up a bit.

Arsenal are more than capable of having a wobble and one of the teams above us is Spurs, whose manager seems to be having a strange change of mind about things.... Its very possible
Not a hope in hell those team will collapse to the extent where they would lose 4-5 games, AND we would be consistent enough to win all of ours.

I'd be shocked if Arsenal or Spurs. Even Chelsea didn't drop 10+ points from here to the rest of the season. I don't think we'll make top 4. But those teams won't consistently win all of their games.

Why? Why should a new manager be burdened with signing and input either from Ole or from Ed. Until we move away from all of this we are going round in circles. Ole has a terrible track record in the transfer market
It's not like Ole will be the one to actually DECIDE on the transfer. But a manager having no right to have in input on his team's transfer is madness, mate.

Says he will speak to all the players who don't start at Cardiff and remind them of the need to be team players: "No-one has been on the bench more than me."

That's a great quote.

Feck me this was refreshing...
Good players and a great club, with great staff and fantastic fans.

I haven´t wanted to watch United of late but I am absolutely buzzing for this game, I bet our traveling fans and players are really looking forward to this.
We have only had couple of minutes of Ole and we are going crazy so imagine the players who have had hours with him..

He talks a good game and handled the question about players potentially not being bothered to play for an interim manager very well. I've said it before but an affable manager with fresh ideas can go a very long way, there's an air of Southgate about him in that sense.

They'll all probably drop 20 points from now till the end.. avg point per game of 2 gets you to 76 points.. They'll probably finish somewhere in the 70s with 21 games to go..

The problem for us is that we are 11 behind. for us to get to 76 points, we'll need to get an average of 2.38 ppg, which over the course of a season is 90 points..
We basically have to go on a title winning run and hope at least 2 teams above us don't exceed expectations.. or even better, have a mini collapse.

It is highly highly unlikely..

We'd do well to finish with over 70 points not be 10 points behind the top 4.

"I want the players to be the kids who love to play football."

This is the quote that shows me he's got a genuine grasp of what's needed to inspire footballers. Little things like this can have such an effect!

He has to say that. In reality, he will have nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Exactly, I couldn't agree more. As Tim Sherwood said on Sky the other night, this role is about lifting the spirits and getting them to enjoy themselves again. He's the perfect choice to hold the fort, maybe even win us something along the way.

Fine, but for sure we are not going to consistently win all of our games. That's the issue

Looking forward to the game tomorrow but I cannot fully share the enthusiasm by most here. Say what you want about Mourinho but replacing a manager of his status by some former club legend having made his experience as manager in the Norwegian league does not sound like the best plan ever.
Ole has no experience in facing players like Salah, Aguero, Hazard, Mbappe, Neymar etc.
These guys might have their fun with our new "attack, attack, attack" and "the opponent does not matter - we are going to play our style" approach.

What irritates me the most though is the fact that in case we have someone like Conte, Jardim, Zidane or Blanc on our list why we did not try to get this guy as soon as possible. The remaining season would have been such a great chance to get a clear picture about what and who is needed in summer 2019 and beyond.

It seems we really put all our hope into getting Poch on board.

However, I cannot wait to seeing us play tomorrow.

I don't think anybody should have hopes about top 4.

If we get it, it'll be a miracle and Ole will have done a fantastic job.

All i'm looking for is for the team to get confident again, start playing with joy and entertainment. If we do that then the points will come, no doubt.

If we manage to challenge PSG over 2 legs in March, we will be well on our way come the summer.

"Ole has dig at fergie in first presser" - i can see the sun back page now
I dont think the press would dare turn on him like that, at least not for a long time yet. They know how he's revered by the club and the fans.

Never mind Ole, I hope we all deliver on our pronouncements here. I hope we stick with the notion that his job is to deliver the players from the shackles of negativity and fear that Jose left as his legacy and the the cold reality of a few shit results don't alter that perception. We're talking a great game at the moment, lets see if we can deliver when it's put up to us.

It feels like we got rid of a grinch and brought in Santa!

I'm hoping if all of Ole's statements encourage me that it will encourage the players more and we'll actually see some decent football instead of 11 guys afraid of making a mistake.

Sir Alex was 45 when he took over at Man United in 1986. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is 45. Coincidence? Or destiny? Hope he gets the support and patience Fergie got in those early years.

Fergie had to clear out some of the club heroes at the time, like Whiteside, who thought the party was more important than the game, and he had to bring others, like club captain Robson, back into line. Ole, or whoever is eventually appointed, has a similar job to do now to get the club back to where it should be.
