What position does Garner play? CDM, CAM or CM? I dont really follow the youngsters besides Greenwood. In your opinion is he better al ready than McTomminay/Pereira?
He's a CDM but with the ability to influence play further forward. I'd compare him to Carrick/Alonso in terms of his playing style. He's the best passer of a ball in the youth team by a mile and he can tackle. But perhaps his best attribute is his mentality. You can see the influence he has on the others around him and he's constantly changing the pace of the game from the center of the field. Hard to say in terms of Scott and Andreas. I'd say he's not as good at dribbling as Andreas and Scott might be physically stronger, but in terms of a fit in Ole's United team, Garner is basically perfect.

You will find the quotes in the fellaini thread directly after Mourinhos sacking. I won't mention any names but there was smug group that was adamant the next manager will be the 4th one to rely on Fellaini and accusing anyone who critises fellaini as "hating" or "disrespectful" etc . After it was pointed out that it didn't mean anything since all of them were sacked .
Quotes/links please. I remember the usual, over the top vitriol thrown his way, a sample of which features in this thread, but I can't remember anyone saying the new manager will rely on Fellaini. There's a difference between fairly criticising, pointing out his short comings etc and the abusing him. Shame really, irrespective of what you think about him as a player, he's given his all and his professionalism could never be called into doubt.

I don't understand why is people happy of him leaving right now. I understand that he is not a starting option for Ole but we are so short on midfielders that we shouldn't let him go right now without finding a replacement.
Why are people happy? Because he is bad midfielder, simple as that, only good use of him is lumping long balls to him, I am sure there are even academy midfielders that can do better MIDFIELD job than him.

Good riddance indeed.

Well, we knew we are absolutely useless in getting decent money from the sales. £7m is an insult in today's market. Anyway, just happy to see him leaving.

Good luck to the big man. He gave his all for the club during a low point in our history for which we should all be grateful.

Sometimes a player comes along who has evident qualities but unfortunately isn't a fit for the overall ethos or style of a club.

I think it's a good time to invest in the Chinese head guard market.

Poor decision to sell him now, especially if it's only £7m. He's still our 4th best CM.

Think he did a job under some poor managers, now we have a manager that wants us to play more attacking he is kind of useless. He was always a level or two below the sort of player we need to compete at the top, even as a squad player i cant see what he brings in our current system.

Don’t agree.

Been awful every time I’ve seen him play. Never done well on loans. Can pass but can’t tackle. Can dribble but he’s too slow.

Don’t see him surviving at United even as a back up. Would like to be wrong but don’t even see him getting anywhere near Mata’s current level, and some people want Juan Mata out the club.

I think it’s just the exotic name. If he was called Andy Perry nobody would care.
I see enough that I want to watch him get a few games. I think he'd be best if we need to rest Pogba - say we're winning comfortably and want to rest him last 20mins. He's a technically strong AM in my mind, mental that Mou was trying to retrain him as a 6. I like Mata as a sub but would play Pereira ahead of him in any position because of how immobile Mata is.

On Fellaini - £7m is absolutely fine with me. It was his salary that was the issue, makes me think we're going to be clearing some funds for the summer.

Bayern Munich are getting 5m for a very poor player.......at least Fellaini is a good player and we are getting only 7m :wenger:
If Fellaini was as good as you think he is then obviously many clubs would be offering more than £7m.

I agree - he clearly has a lot of potential and Ole rates him going by his comments.

He had two very good loan spells so i dont know what that poster was talking about.

I imagine it's to do with Fellaini's comparatively high wages. He will demand more which will be incorporated into his transfer fee.

So long Fellaini. Worked his socks off but never was the right fit for the club.

It's unfair to blame him for the failures of the past few years, but he is somehow going to become a talisman of how things went so wrong. Particularly if the feeling that the club is turning things around becomes reality.

It's more to do with the fact that we offered stupidly high wages to Fellaini, but also because people on here are vastly overrating how good of a player he actually is because he plays for us. He isn't very good. 7mill is more than enough for a player i'd happily release on a free just to be rid of him.

He did score some important goals and played up to his limits. So wish him best of luck if true.
Replacement?

Does anyone actually blame him for our failings? Pretty sure most people blame the terrible managers. Don't know why a player can't be criticised on here for merely being poor, without that criticism being vastly exaggerated and twisted in to something it's not

How dare you suggest such stuff? Pereira, Scott, Fred and Garner and all academy players are waiting for that spot.
At least that's what people some people say.

Beautiful news. Cant believe how much the club has turned round in a little over a month. Get rid of Valencia, Darmian and Jones and we will build a statue of Ole

Not good enough? And we need such come and play material kind of player instead " he needs time ( year or two ) "thing.

I was very against his signing. Under Jose especially i must give him some credit he saved us a few times and did at least seem to try his hardest.

I know it's not his fault either but I associate him with the horrible dull hoofball football that came with Moyes and Mourinho, the fact we used to use him as our "saviour" was a sign of how far we had fallen.

I just cannot see him fitting in with a fast paced attack that we are creating and working with at the moment (and so much more enjoyable to watch) I'm also glad we aren't keeping him around in case we need to resort to hoofball.

He always worried me when he played as well as he always seemed like he was very close to getting sent off and potentially costing you that way, yes you could argue similar for Bailly and even Pogba, Rooney etc at times but you just got that feeling with him.

I'm very surprised though that he's going to China although I'll believe it when he's actually signed we've had this happen with him before... he could still do a very good job at one of the smaller PL teams eg Newcastle if they would actually spend.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it say if he does leave that it's to go at the end of the season and we will keep him until then especially as we aren't making any signings of our own.

Don't know why a player can't be criticised on here for merely being poor
He is clumsy, uses elbows
He is slow and can't pass well
He can't play in a fast paced setup

He is epitome of everything wrong with the club for last 6 years
He is the symbol of failure. Players like him are the reason club doesn't move forward
He is as bad as Moyes to the club.

Someone can say all 6 are valid criticisms. Some will say only 2 or 3 are criticism, rest is over the top.
So it all depends on how you view the opinions.

The elbows perception is incorrect, to be fair. He's just taller than everyone else so the normal footballing use of his arms looks like intentional elbowing.

Have a feeling Garner will be added to the squad. Believe me when I say this - and I don't hype youngster, even Greenwood - James Garner is special.
From what I can see.

High football IQ
Vertical passer.
Good eye movement
Playmaker

If he has the temper and the physicality to take the next step the tools are there.

7 million seems alot, I thought his contract was up in the summer? I guess not if were asking that much for him.

It seems strange to say that i'l be glad to see him go because credit to him, he has delivered on many occasions. He's been wasted here, he should have spent the last five years starting every week for a team more suited to his attributes.

We gave him a 2 year contract, expires in 2020.

It's clear that Ole would rather give his minutes to young players, and frankly I am all for that. Best of luck Fellaini.

Good to move him on. He sadly and through no fault of his own symbolises negative tactics and poor styles of play, and poor management.

Move him on, take the money and blood younger players.

Andreas P would never start tonight under Jose, great to see

Absolutely sickened by this news, got a young man sitting next to me crying his heart out at the thought of his favourite United player going.

7 million is a bit of joke, I'd honestly keep him just for the last 10 minutes of games if that's what we would get for him.

You can't bitch and moan about Fellaini and then lose it when he finally departs due to a low transfer fee.

Couldn't care less.

Its finally happening?

Fellaini did a job for us early in the season. What kind of job? Well, one that improved our defending in the air but led to lots of goals from the edge of the box. But, despite the weird tactic I think he did what he was being asked to do fairly well so good on him. It was just poor management from Mourinho

So good luck to him in China. And thank goodness we're finally moving on

Yeah yeah 7 mil is nothing for a Chinese club, but I doubt a premier league one would have paid anymore so not bothered.

Good luck to the guy, he gave his all for us and provided some relatively crucial moments. Unfortunately for him he was never really good enough for a side with real ambitions but he did his best

He's also become synonymous with the post fergie downturn so it makes sense to move him on in order to show we're getting back to the old ways and the quality standards expected
