I can't comprehend how people blunder into blackface. Surely it would be easier to dress as Trump or prince Charles or whoever, keeping ethnicity out of it?

Racist or not is a subjective matter that should be based mostly on a case by case basis.
I agree. It depends on context, intent and a whole load of other variables that mean you have to assess each instance independently. What would you say about soldiers using camo then? Surely there's no-one out there who could genuinely find that offensive?

Agreed. This is also a point I made a couple pages back when the whole Dutch/Spanish thing was being discussed. It's a whole other world over there, and if blackface is only considered offensive in the UK/US and they genuinely don't give a shit then why are we trying to be offended on their behalf?

Perhaps not the absolute majority, but racism is prevalent in the majority of the world for sure. Be it against blacks, people of different religion / tribe / sexual preference / gender / hair colour / shoesize / whatever. One of the biggest obstacles in fighting racism is the fact that quite a few people seem to think that it's a thing of the past. Of course racism is less rampant than it was in the 17th century, but it's still a global epidemic.
The case by case argument is a good one, because obviously soldiers wearing black camo to be less visible and less likely to be shot isn't racist, even though technically, they're blacking up.
You may have well as done though innit? A handful of posters on here telling you that blackface doesn't exist in their country, or racism isn't an issue seems to be enough for you to agree with them and push the narrative this is only a UK/US issue. If that's incorrect them maybe you should reassess what you post and how you may come across... Don't see how it helps tbh.
I'm merely saying that in condemning something we have no clue about, you're judging them by our standards. How do we know how it's perceived over there? There's a history of blackface in our country, and in the US, but the only time to act is if people in those countries consider it offensive. Otherwise you are literally getting offended on behalf of people who couldn't care less, which is not only misguided but also a little odd and clearly pointless.
And you've decided they (whoever and how ever many that may be) couldn't care less because of a handful of posters on here.... I'm done anyway not in the mood for this.

I don’t think it’s an outlandish claim to make really. Would Spanish black people find blackface offensive in the same way someone from the UK or US would, even if they’ve no concept of why it’s historically considered offensive? I’m willing to admit I can’t possibly know since I’ve never met every single Spanish black person. How can we know what their attitude towards it would be? Shouldn’t we wait for them to say it’s offensive before deciding for them that it is?
This is a really weird statement. If someone had told me that I was that person in the yearbook my response would have been, quite simply, “No it’s not, I‘ve never dressed up like that” because I would know that I had never done it. Yet to him it seemed plausible that it could have been him therefore one has to assume that he has donned such an outfit at some stage in his life.

What do you mean by “it’s not a coincidence”? That they are Dems or that it’s all coming out now?
Because if it’s the latter then of course it’s not a coincidence. Both sides have now set a precedence of trying to destroy and take down people by digging out unsavoury stuff they did in their teenage years. They’re digging through each other’s past with real zeal and stuff is being unearthed as a result.
