Going to be a key Summer for Spurs coming up. At the moment it is looking a bit like a team that peaked a year ago and needed refreshed. Yes injuries are the current issue but even with their full team they had issues, not as strong as they were 18 months with Dembele gone, Alderweireld and Rose on the decline.

3rd would be an excellent acheivement for them given their problems this season.

Spurs are going to be stuck in the top 4 limbo unless multiple rich teams have an off season. I think most Spurs fans are happy to not be in the mess that Arsenal are, things could be a lot worse.

Not much of a retort though - we got the win and although it was a tough game we deserved it.
Just as we deserved to beat Leicester. Which is my point. Pochettino's comment was stupid .

Sorry to burst your bubble but we are currently having our best ever premiership league season in terms of points accumulated. If this is a team that peaked last year and on the downward slide then something does not compute?

I do agree that this is a big summer for us potentially. I really hope we get some players in.

Considering how frugal they are and where they were before Poch, I reckon they would be perfectly fine with Top 4 every season with a blue moon's shot at the title (No City pun intended). Ultimately fans want to be entertained and they are mixing it with the big boys just sufficiently enough to be entertaining.

That is nonsense and you know it. Comparing points accumulation across seasons is suspect as hell because it ignores a multitude of factors regarding the league. As it stands 3 teams are on track for 85+ points which is unheard of, and it is largely down to the shambolic quality of the lower half of the table. If course the most important thing is position in the table, you are 3rd which is not your highest finish.

You have 6 teams within 3 points of each other in the bottom half. Huddersfield are giving Derby a run for their money when it comes to worst ever sides in PL history.

Bubble? I don't have anything riding on Spurs starting to slide. What they have done given their budget with the money around them in the top 6 is admirable. Financial ceiling though which makes some of the criticism of Spurs and Poch not winning anything harsh.

Points totals look great but performances have dipped from what I was seeing from Spurs in 2016-17, don't think the top level is as high anymore. I don't watch every 90 to be fair.

We have been absolutely destroyed by injuries this season which has understandably impacted on our performances - what has improved though is our resilience and experience to see games through - as a fan I'd rather see us win consistently without hitting top form than be playing better but not getting the same results.

Hope spurs win it to be honest. So much to admire about the way they’ve operated, goes against the grain completely and can’t help but respect it.

I think he has a point tbf, the bottom half this season have been properly dire and it's been easier than ever for the top sides to walk all over them. I feel like pretty much all of the top six are getting more points than they would have done in other seasons because of this, the gap is very clear.

 Obviously I wasn't talking about the numbers, I was talking about comparing points across seasons.

Here's an interesting fact for you. Spurs are on track for 65 xPoints at the end of the season. In 16/17 they finished on 75 xPoints. Spurs in 16/17 were superior in every measurable statistic and this will include points come the end of the season (I am that confident). You've got City, Chelsea and Liverpool away. You will not better your points total of 16/17 (I would bet on it, but that's against my religion :)).

I do agree that our 16/17 team was our best side, but I wouldn't be surprised if we managed to beat the points total because well .. that's football.

I have a very big soft spot for that side though, Wanyama and Dembele bossing it in midfield .

We are on 60 points already - you don't think we will get another 15+ points between now and the end of the season?

At this current rate you will finish on 87 points, but this will correct itself after you have played some big games. I have Spurs finishing in the mid 80s.

It seems you are not aware what xPoints are. 86 points is the marker I'm talking about :). The points you got in 16/17.

Maybe, but football isn't mathematics and we still don't know how we will do in those big games, anything could happen.

I think if we can go in to those games with momentum and key players returning, we have it in us to surprise people.

It is similar to xGoals and xGoalsAgainst which measures the quality of chances created and conceded. xPoints is a way to calculate the average points you would get based on the chances created and conceded after every game. It is a way to assess the general play of the team.

Spurs this season are inferior in effectively every statistical measure and I would say the eye test also confirms this. They are less fluent and more reliant on individual brilliance. Your midfield struggles a lot more this season and this is because you don't have Wanyama and Dembele at their best in there who were great players.

Maybe, but football isn't mathematics and we still don't know how we will do in those big games, anything could happen.

I don't think it's mathematics to say that Spurs will shit the bed at Anfield. It's just common sense. Of course anything can happen and I would love it if Spurs win every single game from now on and win the league with 96 points. Much better than City and Pool winning it.

It's the type of stats that people fall back on when reality doesn't match their wishful thinking and/or hopes and/or predictions.

I think it was SAF who described a top team as one that could play badly and still win games.

No one remembers the odd game when teams win leagues and cups - they just remember the end result. One of the reasons why Spurs haven't won a trophy for donkeys is not because they haven't been like City were last season, and consistently won games in top gear, but because they haven't been like Liverpool and ground out results whilst failing to flatter.

To play a game where the referee is seemingly intent on helping the other team, and to not be playing at your best, with key players missing, and still win buy a couple of goals - that's progress, whichever way you dress it up. Even more when you can do it regularly. That's basically how most teams win cups.

Spurs certainly rode their luck today but I was saying this earlier this season....second half of season they have ridiculous number of home games to play and guess what they're winning them even in half empty Wembley.

Think they have three straight home games in March aswell.

Oh man, I've just looked at their remaining fixtures again and they're horrible. Chelsea and Arsenal coming up in succession, City and Pool away. Damn it, cant see them making up the points on City or Pool sadly :(

I agree with you, we played better in the 16/17 season, although I think we have matured more as a team now and we're better at finding a way to win when we don't play well. The team we have now need some fresh blood, especially in midfield and fullback areas, but it has to be better players than what we have.

This is football though, and although it's a long shot we can beat City and Liverpool away, and I'd even have us as favourites going into the Chelsea game if Kane is back. Part of being a fan is to have faith ;)

Does Poch have a point when he said that the FA should have scheduled the game v Leicester for Saturday to have the same number of rest days as Dortmund?

Yes

Our game against Fulham should have been on Friday too

The Premier League is a joke!!!!
But PSG played on Saturday as well didn't they? He's not asking for an advantage, just the same number of rest days as the opponent for such an important game.

Because they played against Lyon last Sunday and in the Coupe de France against Villefranche on Wednesday therefore Saturday was logical.....and in PSG's position they could anyway rest their best players.

Roma and Porto have played last Friday.
Juventus, Bayern Munich and Lyon will play on Friday.

No they wont make the points. But they can certainly have a say in who wins with a draw or win against City or Pool.

This point was raised by so many managers in the past, that FA should schedule games to give proper rest to help the clubs in Europe, nothing has been done and won't be done as scheduling is controlled by Sky and others.

It's a little ridiculous, and having other clubs that aren't in Europe on 'Super Sunday' would help those teams as well. And personally I would think it's a more interesting spectacle to watch the Cardiff v Saints game on Sunday with two teams around the same place in the table battling relegation.

Reports about Son who will be offered an improved contract in the summer of 150k a week. I don't know if this is accurate, but Levy has been very proactive with offering our important players improved deals which is to his credit.

Just need to offer Eriksen 200k/week ;) He's probably on the move to RM for around what, 40mil?

I agree about the Spurs midfield, Sissoko has been in good form this season but outside that you have Dier. Who offers virtually nothing going forward, good to have if you are under siege in the trenches I guess. Winks is young and inexperienced, can spray passes around and keep the ball moving but really needs more time to grow his game, Skip is just an academy player. Wanyama has been injury prone for a while now but is slowly coming back into the side, at his best is a good DM to have.

Can't read it without a subscription, but yeah, - not nice...

I don't think he's the only chairman who thinks this way though judging from evidence of ticket prices everywhere. With all the money the clubs make from other sources you'd think they would want to spend a little more on the match-going fans. If only fans could organize more collectively and put pressure on all the clubs something might change, but I fear football fans are too tribal for that

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham Hotspur chairman, said that he “hated the idea” of a £30 cap on away tickets for supporters, despite warnings from the head of the Premier League that the clubs had gained a reputation for being “greedy bastards”, leaked emails have revealed.

Richard Scudamore, the executive chairman of the Premier League at the time, even stated three years ago that an agreement on the cap could be used as leverage with government ministers to influence the outcome of an investigation by Ofcom, the broadcast regulator, into how the league sells its TV rights. The emails — published by Der Spiegel, the German weekly news magazine, from the Football Leaks cache of documents — also disclose the level to which the “big six” clubs have worked together on various issues, with Ed Woodward, the Manchester United executive vice-chairman, suggesting that they vote as a block.

The £30 cap was first agreed by the 20 top-flight clubs in March 2016 after lobbying by Scudamore, and was reinstated for another three years this month. Scudamore stepped down as chairman in December but is still paid by the league as a consultant.

In the build-up to the March 2016 meeting, Scudamore emailed the clubs about the proposed away cap, saying: “No amount of charity giving or the deployment of slick PR can make up for the reputation we have garnered, fairly or unfairly, in the court of public opinion, of being greedy bastards and not giving two hoots for the fans.”

In response, Levy emailed the executives of the other members of the “big six” — Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs as well as Spurs, saying: “Happy to do a call with us 6 . . . I personally hate the idea.”

The emails indicate that Scudamore tried to use the Ofcom investigation as another reason for the clubs to agree to the cap, saying he could “certainly use it directly with government ministers who can directly influence Ofcom opinion”. He went on: “I need to be careful what I put in an email but you understand.”

Ofcom closed its investigation in August 2016, saying that it had taken account of the league’s decision to increase the number of matches sold for live broadcast to at least 190 matches per season for 2019 to 2022.

The regulator told Der Spiegel that the investigation was not focused on ticket prices and that it is independent, impartial and free of political influence.

The Premier League declined to comment while Spurs said: “As a club we absolutely supported assisting away fans — however we had proposed our preferred method for supporting away fans which related to assisting with travel costs. The issue was debated and resulted in an unanimous decision to set the away price.”

It is no secret that the executives of the “big six” have held meetings together — and in June managed to secure a greater share of overseas TV rights income rather than having it split completely equally between all 20 clubs.

The emails show that in November 2015 Woodward orchestrated a move to block a vote on an undisclosed issue.

“Just to ensure we are all on same page,” the Manchester United executive vice-chairman emailed to other “big six” executives, “Plan A get vote pushed . . . plan B vote against it as a block.”

Manchester United also declined to comment.

Der Spiegel also reported that in September 2017, Nike, the sports goods company, offered €59 million (about £52 million) for the right to provide the match balls to the Premier League until 2025.

Daniel Levy is a cnut. Just have a look at the prices Spurs fans start paying when they move.
